Although I live in California, I grew up in Apalachin. When I visit a couple times a year, Chris always cuts my hair. Many stylists want you to tell them exactly what you want. Chris asks for inputs on your tastes and then exceeds your expectations. Recently, he's also colored my hair and does a great job getting it just the right color. You won't be bored as Chris can tell you many stories and can discuss almost any topic you bring up. You'll leave looking great and feeling great. Give him a try! read more

Chris is an incredible Hairstylist and Colorist. He truly understands hair and how to work with it to give you your best look. Chris has been styling my hair for the past 9 years and I've never had more compliments. Recently I moved 5 hrs away but just a few months ago made the trip back to Owego so he could style and color my hair ... yes he's that good!! Not only will you be giving your hair a treat by working with Chris, you'll also be giving your spirit a treat just by being in his uplifting and encouraging presence. I have been doing hair since age 13, so I have learned that for me, listening to the client and then consultation is my first job. I can work with many types of hair and lengths, but I note that I specialize in long hair lovers and especially growing out your hair to long lengths...simply because I don't cut what doesn't need to be cut! I am also good with curly hair, fine hair difficult hair, classic colors, cuts, and styles that are up to date, but not too wild, is where I stand. Realistic shapes and colors for your head shape, face and hair type, hair directional flow and lifestyle is what I do. Another service is working on wigs...I have been doing that for theatre since 13 as well...I can adjust the style of premade wigs and rejuvenate slightly degraded older wigs. I am also good at blowouts and updos. Set in a one on one setting, it is a therapy session for those that like to feel that the stylist is focusing on them, alone. Sessions for a cut are about an hour or so, and other

History

Established in 1989.

I have an art and theatre background, since high school til present, but have done hair as my primary source of income ever since going to Bruno's School of Hair Design in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1983-4. I have never considered myself a hairstylist...I can do too many things that just happen to enhance that skill...but it is the thing I have done practically every day of my life. I am always figuring out what I am doing with a critical mind...so the outcome is essentially art and an ongoing life quest to find out what your hair wants to be when it grows out...lol. I also do astrological consultations, which can help the process at times. I am not a conventional stylist...but I do have a true "Salon"...in the sense that art, intellect and just plain enjoying life while all of that is happening, can be integrated into my studio/parlor.

Sadly... the tornado won. The acrylic removal began normally enough, until the technician started drilling my pinky nail with the enthusiasm of someone trying to dig for buried treasure. The drill got so hot I'm pretty sure I saw my ancestors. I very politely said, "Ow, that hurt." She very politely said, "I'll be gentler." And then she proceeded to drill like she was trying to start a campfire. Next came the shaping. I showed her a picture of what I wanted--simple, (trust see pics) cute, achievable. Twice she filed my nails, twice she asked, "Is this it?" and twice the answer was a solid, heartfelt, absolutely not. I explained it. I even used hand gestures. She looked at me with the calm serenity of someone who had chosen violence and ignoring instructions. But nothing prepared me for the manicure. Or should I say... "manicure." There was no warm bowl of sudsy water. No gentle soak. No heavenly lotion. No cuticle oil. Not even the traditional "let me pretend to massage your hands for five seconds." Instead, she did a quick file, a quick snip, and then asked--completely sincerely-- "Do you want a neck massage?" A neck massage. During a manicure. Ma'am, my hands were going through a crisis. The entire experience cost me $35, which feels appropriate only if the service included a surprise psychological plot twist--and in that case, wow, they delivered. In conclusion, the staff was friendly, but the service was like a comedy sketch no one warned me about. I left with confused nails, confused feelings, and a confused neck that did not, in fact, get a massage. I hope this review helps someone. And I hope someday my pinky nail forgives me.

Chris is a fantastic stylist! I have alopecia and have worn wigs for many years. I buy pre-styled wigs online, but they always need tweaking and customizing. It is really hard to find a good stylist who isn't afraid to work with a wig, so I was thrilled to find Chris. I have brought photos of wigs to him for his expert advice about style, and he is always helpful, kind and compassionate. He even "repurposed" one of my wigs into a retro style for a theme party I was going to. He is also a brilliant conversationalist! His studio is clean and attractive. Chris is the only hairdresser that I've used who really listened to me when I told him what I wanted done with my hair. He consistently delivered the complex coloring that I love for over a decade and kept my fine, wispy hair from becoming damaged from the all the coloring treatments.
