My mother came in for a simple root touch-up, curling her roots to match her existing curly perm maintained for years, on her naturally fine straight hair. Germaine, a "licensed stylist" agreed to the service and quoted a price. My mother trusted her. What followed was a complete failure of basic professional technique. The stylist never wrapped my mother's ends in foil, which any licensed cosmetologist knows is standard practice to prevent chemical cross contamination during a root perm. As a result, the chemical fried her ends entirely. Her hair is now permanently damaged, the roots are curly, and the ends are an unrecognizable, frizzy, undefined texture that is not straight, wavy, or curly. It looks and feels like a kitchen scrubber. Every professional stylist we have consulted since has said the same thing: there is nothing that can be done. She has to wait for all of her hair to grow out. We explicitly told this stylist before she began that my mother is a professional singer and performer, that her hair is central to her image and livelihood, and asked her to be careful. She said, "I got you". She did not. When my mother returned the next day in tears asking for a refund, the response from the salon was appalling. Instead of taking accountability, the stylist refused to engage. Germaine and other Staff members and even a customer in the chair began ganging up on my mother, yelling at her to leave. My mother, who was crying and simply asking for what was right was made to feel like a criminal. All of this is on the security camera. The salon eventually refunded the service charge, but refused to return the $100 cash tip my mother had left, which is also captured on camera. When my mother tried to re-enter to address this, they locked the door. Germaine then came outside and said verbatim "You want me to pull it out of my ass"? To a grieving customer whose hair she had just permanently destroyed. The "apology" given was backhanded, given only while handing over a partial refund, with zero acknowledgment of the damage caused. My mother is devastated. She has been crying every day since. She has had to cancel performances and will be losing income while her hair slowly over the course of years  grows back. This is not a bad haircut. This is permanent, irreversible damage caused by negligence, and followed by one of the most hostile, unprofessional responses I have ever witnessed. We are filing a complaint with corporate headquarters and exploring all available options. Do not trust this location with chemically treated hair or frankly, with any service at all. read more

Let me get right down to what happen when I schedule an appointment to get a sew-in done at hair Cuttery , at 5900 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk Va. 23502, One of the workers Jermaine recommend a co-worker of hers to do my sew-in because she was not available , Long story short , the girl couldn't do a sew-in, my hair is short and permed, she put two braid on the side of my head without adding any hair, when I ask her did she know how to do sew-in , she answer yes. I told her if my hair don't turn out how it supposed to, we're going to have a problem in hair Cuttery. I took my one baby finger and took the braid out with no problem , She said you didn't let me finish, but that's ok. I'll schedule you an appointment with Jermaine for later today, she schedule the appointment while I was standing there, before taken my $35.00 dollars for washing my hair she call me five minutes after I left hair Cuttery to tell me Jermaine was book. Is this some kind of gimmick going on ???? she said she made the appointment while I was there No I wasn't going to waste my time letting her do a sew-in on top of those weak little braids, only for the braids to come loose and the hair to sag. She charge me 35.00 for washing my hair. Now that I thank about it, she did the same thing another girl did , charge me $35.00 for washing my hair because she couldn't do a sew-in after get me into the salon. I can't see how Jermaine didn't know her co-worker couldn't do a sew-in and she's working with the girl every day. I wonder how many older customers they have hustle, taken advantage of in this way, the next time a hairstylist tell me they can do a sew-in and Can't do a sew-in , I'm not paying you and let the chips fall where they may. I don't make hair appointment to get my hair wash under no circumstances. I wish I could remember the girl name that couldn't do a sew-in , I'm not taken anything from the other women who work there. Dee is fantastic, as are the other stylists as well. I am African American with natural hair. I get a wash, blow dry and flat iron biweekly. My style lasts for a minimum of two weeks and sometimes three in between appointments. Dee uses the Cibu product line on my hair and it works beautifully. My hair just finished recovering from coming here... i went in june. I had asked for mostly black hair with some silvery highlights. I received BLONDE hair with some rose gold tones. When i expressed how much i like my hair dark my stylist asked if i wanted to look "goth". i said yes ... to her surprise i guess?? i had chemical burns on my scalp that were treated by another stylist. And i immediately put dark color over it as blonde hair triggered an entire ptsd meltdown. I've been spending more money and time on my hair to get its healthy curls back but it has been a PAIN. I never write nasty reviews but this messed up my birthday plans, made me breakdown, and costed me significantly. read more

Went there last Saturday , my sister in law was getting a hair cut , which she did with an excelente hair dresser. We left and went to the store beside it, when we received a call from them that we stole some products from them... we went there to asked why they were accusing us on such horrible thing... they were very rude , told us a customer told them we stole from them. Instead of them checking their inventory first , call us and accused us . Finally a lady came to us and told us they inventory was fine and it was a mistake. I will never go to this Hair Cuttery again.... it was a very uncomfortable and humiliated us. They should have check inventory first. read more

Horrible! I went there to get my hair dyed brown with honey blonde highlights and the lady turned my hair black with orange highlights. I also told her just to trim my ends and she cut 4 inches off my hair. Work hair salon experience ever! read more
