Let me just say that Oki-Doki is more than adequate - it's great! It's located conveniently right near all the residential buildings near Canary Wharf, making it easily accessible from anywhere in the Isle of Dogs area. It's very clean, modern, charming and you can tell that there is something to it that other nail salons don't have - a sense of neighborhood! People actually chat with each other and the staff makes friendly talk to all customers. There is no TV, which, as the owner Mike explained, is on purpose, to encourage discourse among clients and those who work there. While the place is small, it isn't cramped. The big plush chairs have massage elements built in. The staff is quick and professional. They offer you tea and coffee and in such a friendly manner! And Mike, the owner, is a gem. He really is excited about his business and loves talking to customers. While my gf's nails were drying, he and I had a good 15 min chat about how he started the business, why he organized it the way he did, etc. At the end, I'm as excited about going there to chat with him as my gf is about getting her nails done. The quality of the job, by the way, is top notch. And the prices are significantly cheaper than comparable nail bars in Canary Wharf or London proper (probably 25% cheaper here). I usually go around once a month to get shellac done on my nails and they always do a wonderful job. The women who work there are all so kind and have a wonderful eye for detail. Unlike other salons I've been to I've never walked out with a stray hair or something stuck in my nail shellac. The salon is clean, open, and inviting. I would recommend calling ahead for an appointment so you can walk right in and be seen. If they're ever running late they'll call and let you know so you are not sitting there wasting time. Natasha was incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to sit down with me and create a personalized hair repair routine for my blonde hair, even writing everything down on cards so I wouldn't forget. What really stood out to me was how genuine and thorough she was. It's so rare to find a hairstylist who doesn't just try to push products on you but instead genuinely explains what your hair needs and why. Even though I could tell I was her last customer of the day (the front desk staff looked ready to lock up), Natasha didn't rush at all. She patiently went through photos of the products I had at home, explaining which ones she recommended, which to skip, and what routine she thought would work best for me. She was even honest about the products she wasn't familiar with, which I truly appreciated. I genuinely appreciate hairstylists like Natasha--knowledgeable, honest, and caring. It's really pretty funky, set in one of the many Georgian terraces of Islington. The walls have been graffiti'ed with crayons which helps convey the impression that you are in a very hip young family's home. I've been here twice now and had two different hairdressers. Both have been young and far more stylish than me, and seem to have the miraculous ability to somehow impart some of their stylishness to my hair. This could in fact be the hair product they use as my hair never seems to be quite as good the next day when I try and replicate the result. The only thing I don't like is the price; a guy's haircut is 35 pounds (you get a 10% discount for booking your next appointment on the day). I don't know if that's a lot by London standards but it's certainly a lot by my standards. Still, I guess you get what you pay for and I've certainly felt that was the case both times.

I made an appointment for a Brazilian Blowdry treatment via Treatwell which was very easy to do. I have long hair and wanted just a trim so after making the appointment I called the salon to see how much they would charge for a trim and they said not to worry about it. I was a little nervous after hearing that because in my experience London salons want to charge you at least 30 GBP even for a trim, which is ridiculous. My appointment was with Jessica and while she hardly spoke a word of English, her technique is fantastic. There were plenty of gals there that could translate what I said to Jessica and it was no problem to get across what I wanted. Also, I'm not a fan of small talk so I didn't mind not talking to Jessica. I was able to get a wash, dry, treatment, and trim - all for 149 GBP via Treatwell. The salon didn't charge me extra for my trim - so happy about this! In my experience for over 10 years of getting this treatment, that is an incredible value for the technique, service, and overall experience. I will absolutely be back.
