I had a blonde hair emergency. I made an appointment with Candra & she did an amazing job with my hair. She took her time, did a great job highlighting my hair! She also put toner in my hair and cut it too. I am not sure my hair has looked this good in a long time. I highly recommend Candra. She charged me a very fair price. If I lived closer Candra would definitely have a new customer. When you call the salon & nobody answers please do not leave a message, their voicemail does not work. I walked in today to see if I could get a haircut or an appointment. there was one young lady working on a client and she asked if she could help me.I said that I was looking for a quick trim, nothing fancy for today or tomorrow. She said that she was booked for today and there was only one "girl" coming in tomorrow. Another young lady came out of the back and she also said she was booked today. I was very impressed with my first cut and color. However, my second visit was disappointing both in terms of the quality and the overall treatment of the client. I was ignored while Candra and her sister chatted incessantly with another client about their kids and youth sports. Don't expect a glass of water or a cup of coffee while the color or curl takes or any interaction with you. I don't like a lot of talking and certainly don't enjoy a hairdresser who complains about everything in her life, but I do like being acknowledged as a person and not a blank head. Tara, the owner, runs this salon with her sister. Today I received the best first time haircut ever! Actually, it was the best cut ever (and I have been to some high end salons). I have hair that's difficult to cut, and it usually takes 2 or 3 times for the stylist to get it right--not this time. Tara is very experienced and asked me questions about what I wanted, showed me pictures of possibilities close to what we had talked about, and then gave me a cut that was even better than I had envisioned. I'm originally from the southern/central California, and hair salons /barbers are so much easier to come by. Hair Nation is the only comparable salon I've found after living in Newport for 6+ years. Traveling from out of state and needed a haircut. Called today and got lucky! Alycia had a cancellation and got me in this afternoon. I arrived a little early and she was right on time. I didn't have to wait. The salon was so nice, one of the reasons I chose it from the pictures on Yelp. I asked for a trim on my long hair and bangs and was very happy with the results! My first time there and I walked in with my "Covid hairdo" and I went all in. I got a cut and color done by Tara. The salon is nicely decorated and was very clean. I thought the fee was reasonable. I'm a broke college student, and getting my hair done is a luxury I can usually only afford once a year, so I am pretty picky when it comes to making an appointment for my annual cut and color. Well, my mom gets her hair done by Tara, so she booked me an appointment and I am literally OBSESSED with the results. Tara was incredibly skillful, had a great eye for detail, and was diligent in helping me achieve the look I wanted. The weaving she did for my highlights was very intricate, she really took her time and was super patient with me also when I asked if she could tone my hair again to get it a bit darker. Her haircutting skills are great as well--in quarantine I did some regrettable DIY-bangs on myself, and she cleaned them up and gave me exactly the bouncy 90s layers-look I was going for. Their space is super cute and clean as well, and the service was very reasonably priced for the quality. I'm glad I ended up coming here, and I can't recommend Hair Nation and Tara enough! read more
