When it comes to color, Frenchie knows what she's doing! I came for my first visit to dye my hair brown with blonde highlights. While there, she gave me a consult (which allowed me to really evaluate ways to improve my hair health). I was scared when my hair was bleached, but she told me to trust the process, and she was right! Everyone LOVED my hair and repeatedly asked who did it, where, and what color! Subsequent visits were good, too. Definitely not cheap, however perfect for more special occasions or once in a while touch ups. While visiting Philly I was in a much needed hair appointment. I decided to check out Hair Vyce. Frenchie the owner was very nice. We communicated prior to my appointment. It's very interesting because this salon is a multicultural salon. All of the ladies, that work at the shop are very polite. I had a headache, and I asked if they had any thing that I can take. A friend she had one of her assistance. Pick me up some meds from the store within the next block. I thought that was so kind of them to do that for me. I wasn't expecting it at all. I was going to stop by the store myself. They definitely want the extra mile for me (I really appreciate them). At the hair washing station they have these reclining chairs that are very comfortable. My favorite part about the experience was when I got my hair washed. It was so relaxing. And I never had a good wash like that in a while. There's all so water and sangria that they are for you. I almost never write bad reviews but this place has terrible customer service! I called in the other day for a wash, trim, deep condition, and blow dry. They said I can come in at 4pm. I waited 20 minutes before anyone even started on my hair. After I was deep conditioned, I waited over one hour for someone to trim and dry my hair. It was so long that my hair air dried! It wasn't until I was about to leave when the owner said she will take care of me since she wasn't doing anything and the lady who was going to do my hair was working on two other customers at the same time. On top of that, the owner had a weird energy about her and didn't even part my hair when she blew it out. My hair was slung all over around my face. It's one thing if they said they were booked and tried to fit me in but no one told me anything. I didn't leave the salon until after 6:30pm. I will not be returning. read more

Zoe did this Fulani Braids hairstyle with no extensions on me & Franchon trimmed my hair. A wash and detangle was included which was nice and lowkey a rare find in Philly. This was my 2nd visit and the experience was pleasant and relaxing. I received many compliments on the hairstyle. I would get this protective style again. Hi! I had such a wonderful time at my appointment on Thursday. Not only did Frenchie give me an amazing hair cut, but she listened to my concerns and pointed out how I could make my hair healthier. Unfortunately my visit wasn't as glowing as some of the other reviews. I had an appointment with Frenchie, to do a French roll. I drove quite a distance for the appointment, from the Poconos area. After waiting almost one hour Frenchie, calls me over to the chair and asked me how I wanted my hair, either braided or in the French roll. Per our earlier conversation when I made the appointment, I confirmed I wanted the French roll. She then tells me she doesn't have any hair to add to my hair so I'd have to drive a few miles to a beauty supply store to purchase the hair. But she added, she may have some hair in the basement to braid my hair. As I was about to leave, she had the audacity to ask me to stay so she could at least color my hair, and then after she colored it I could go purchase the hair, come back so she could do the French roll. All of this with a smirk on her face. I ended up going to the beauty supply store anyway, since there isn't one close to where I live, and I stocked up on some items (no hair) and decided to do my own hair. I'm fed up with these low vib salons that are unprofessional and disrespectful to their clients on top of it. Anyone stupid enough to let money walk out the door because they're ego tripping doesn't deserve to be in business. Coincidently, I wanted to drive to Philly anyway, the day before to go to Chinatown but the snow prevent me driving down. So after this debacle with Hair Vyce Studio, I drove to Chinatown and had a beautiful afternoon. read more

Came here with hopes of finding a permanent natural hair salon. I was greeted by the owner with complete disgust. She seemed to have decided immediately that I didn't fit the profile of the clientele she usually serviced. She was very rude and every-time she spoke to me (or rather at me) it was with a negative tone. I requested a bun and showed a picture of what I wanted. I also mentioned my styling preference when I called to make the appointment. I did not receive any indication that there would be a problem with having my hair styled accordingly. The owner didn't even attempt to be friendly or provide any level of customer service. I left the salon upset. I immediately called to voice my dissatisfaction and the owner spoke to me in a mean condescending tone. I wanted my hair styled for a concert that I am attending and it looks horrible. This is a fantastic salon. I found it when I first moved to the city, nearly 1 year ago. I love the atmosphere and the service. The first time I came here, I noticed it was fun and yet relaxing. The first time I came, I took the trolley. Franchise helped me figure out where to go and when the next one was coming. I was able to stay inside until a few minutes before it arrived. Other employees engage with customers, so it has a vibe akin to Cheers... you feel like you're meeting up with old friends. What I also love is that Frenchie is also taking the time to teach the next generation of stylists. She's giving back by investing in future generations of stylists. They also do great work. I have a lot of hair (very thick and long). They do a great job of washing, drying and styling it. I receive compliments in random places - including the grocery store - on my hair after I leave the salon. While I'm in the salon, I sit and watch Frenchie work her magic. She is the queen of hair. I booked with the owner frenchy back in October/November. I booked an 8:30am appointment for a retwist and style. When I arrive the place was packed. The owner really didn't engage ask a few question here and there. It was a few young ladies that worked there mainly shampoo girls but the conversations the owner and the young ladies were having was inappropriate for a busy salon.when it came to styling my hair i had one loc that needed to be installed (because i had cut it by accident a month earlier) she did a horrible job on installing that one loc its literally a knot she tells me i need to be careful with this loc only cause she did a bad job of reinstalling it. she retwist and styled my hair to the side she then ask if I would like my locs cleaned up (cutting the messed up ends of my locs and making them even) to which I agreed to. I didn't even know how bad my hair was until a week later when I take my locs down that my hair is completely butchered my locs are uneven I have a asymmetrical loc Bob now. one side is longer than the other and the loc that was reinstall is hanging on by a thread cause she didn't do it properly. I will NEVER EVER utilized her services or her salon ever again I will never recommend anyone to her or her salon read more

Owner gets stuff done when needed! Was running a little behind and she quickly came over to finish off my hair and get me on my way. She was very attentive and asked everyone how they were doing and what they needed, which was refreshing for a salon experience. This was one of the faster press and curl experiences I've had, and the shampoo has me feeling so clean and is making it last a while! Followed her recommendation and cut off about 4 inches, and will be looking for more hair care tips in the near future. Looks great and I will be back to try out more styles! read more

I've lived in West Philadelphia for almost 10 years and never found a great hair place until I tried Hair Vice. I literally showed a picture to Franchon and got the exact cut. I've been here twice now and had a great experience both times. The vibe is fun, and the prices are great. I have curly hair and so many places want to charge 100.00 for a good curly cut. I paid half that for the best cut I've had in years. And also the shampoo was the the most invigorating scalp scrub ever. I highly recommend. About to write a novel standby! MY WORST SALON EXPERIENCE IN LIFE ! I literally almost burst into tears. I was recommended to this salon by a girlfriend who was also a new client. On the phone I spoke with the owner Frenchie (Franchon Pryor) and explained to her that my hair was damaged from heat and that I just wanted my hair, washed, conditioned, trimmed in its natural state and curls to be set under the dryer. She said okay no problem and I made an appointment for 530pm today. I asked what the pricing for that would be and she said they don't give pricing over the phone but I could check online. (Shady) I went along with the appointment however since my friend said she had a good experience. I checked the prices online and the price point for a shampoo and curl set is listed at $25. I definitely did not believe this would be the case as I was getting a trim and I know how most salons charge for every little thing so I expected to pay around $45/50. I arrived on time and she was the only stylist in the shop with 2 other patrons she was working on that were mid style. She had a young girl shampoo my hair and then I sat around for a good while while she worked on her other customers. STRIKE ONE When it was my turn I explained again what I wanted and she accessed my hair pointed out the clear damage that I previously discussed. She stated that she wanted to trim off at least 2.5 inches and that I could get one of two styles either two strand twists which I now know were listed at $100 or flat twists for $60. I mentioned that I'd still prefer a perm rod curl set and then she mentioned that she did NOT have enough perm rods to do a whole head and that this was not a style she normally does. STRIKE TWO ( why on earth would you advertise something and agree to do something on the phone when it is not something you do !?) I wanted neither of those styles as I planned to get my hair in box braids in about 10 days anyway. I explained this to her and asked about several other styles and she said NO so we just sat there for awhile until I agree begrudgingly allowed her to do flat twists. I honestly asked her again is there any other style you can do besides these two styles and she said NO. She stated two styles were my only two options which leads me to question whether or not she is a professional stylist ? She saw my disappointment and stated that she hated to act like a "HAIR NAZI" but this would be best for my hair. Seriously HAIR NAZI! how inappropriate can you be? I was stuck with no other options. Leave with a wet head and work tomorrow or settle for a style I don't want and waste my money? STRIKE THREE I let her trim a bit of my hair and then she proceeded to put in the 6 large flat twists which were something I could have done at home. I was then told to sit under the dryer and as I did she had a friend drop by and they proceeded to start DRINKING wine and chatting. She then came to my dryer around 8:15pm and asked me to pay $65. It actually ended up being $68 because I used a card to pay and then stated that they have dinner reservations at 830 pm for restaurant week so I should just let the rest air dry. (AKA she was ready to close for the night and continue drinking !) I left no TIP. I have never in life not given at least a 15 to 20% tip but I could not give this rude and unprofessional woman another dime. This entire experience was just the WORST i've ever had. First time going to the salon on Saturday for a consult but they were busy and was told to come back Monday. Wanted to support local business, so I called instead and booked an appointment for palm roll lock maintenance On Tuesday. I Arrived 10 minutes early. I was told to be seated and waited a half hour to be finally seen. No consultation was given as promised, however. I Just sat in the chair and began chatting up the stylist about lock maintenance that I sorely needed. I also informed the stylist that I had an appointment later in the afternoon not far from the salon; she said "no problem" regarding the time frame. After the wash and conditioning, I sat for another hour (with dripping locks mind you) and no maintenance. Texted my other appointment to inform them I'd be an hour late. Time passed and still no maintenance. After a half hour, I paid for the wash and conditioning treatment and left. Lovely salon with good vibes and upbeat staff but time is $$$ so make sure when you book you have extended time--just in case. I've been to salons for lock maintenance from the West Coast to the east and never did it take longer than 2 hours to get the job done! read more
