Last year after our 1st Covid lock down was lifted they said on Facebook they would call people who had appointments book over the lockdown. I never got a call. I have had nothing but fantastic cuts and colours from Kelsey. She is amazing, very kind and respectful, and I always feel like I have a say in what is being done to my hair - no snotty "top-down" attitudes here! It is a dialogue - a conversation. She will tell me what might not work and I can tell her what I prefer, and I always end up with a good result. She is really good with blonde - fantastic! I heard others talk about this place because their knowledge for curly hair is good, the guy who cut my daughters hair immediately said oh it's not that curly and cut get hair it's pretty basic looking like every other salon shes been too not worth the 70 lmao and her hair is very curly he realized it after he blow dried it. I had a really poor experience with one of the stylists, though I won't name any names. I wasn't asked what I wanted at all, instead the stylist did what they thought I needed. I know I probably could have been more assertive about what I wanted, but I was expecting the stylist to at least ASK before telling me they were going to take a couple inches off since my hair was in such bad shape. I hadn't gotten a trim in four months, which doesn't seem that long, and no matter how long it was I don't think it's very professional to shame your clients for the state of their hair. The one thing I did make sure to ask for was nose-length curtain bangs and they were done almost to my chin! I have wavy/curly hair and came in expecting a fairly reasonably priced haircut, only to be told after I was done that it would be over $100 for a cut I geniunely didn't even like. The texture of the products used on my hair was so unpleasant I had to shower intensely afterwards to wash all of it out. I will say I liked that it was an actually even cut, which I've struggled with finding in salons in the past, but it just made me sad and insecure seeing it afterwards-- too short, with curtain bangs that were too long, and a horrible texture. I really hated how it looked and felt, but I wasn't brave enough to tell the stylist to their face that it was awful for me. I don't think I would ever be comfortable returning. read more

I have been going to Brenda since I was 12 years old. She is the only person I have ever been to who actually knows how to cut my curly hair without making it a puff ball. The prices are very reasonable for hair cuts ($50) and for hair dying ($115). If you have curly hair I would recommend Brenda to cut it in a heart beat! read more

This place is amazing. I had been experiencing "meh" hair cuts ever since my regular stylist relocated (this was about 7 years ago!), and this place got me excited about hair cuts again. I went in to see Jessica and wow, does this girl ever know how to cut curly hair. She gave me a great cut, some great styling tips, and talked to me about which products she thinks would help my curls out the most. The prices are extremely reasonable and the salon is clean and easy to find. They even have 2 lines (maybe more?) of vegan hair-care products! I will definitely be coming back, it is great to have finally found a salon that has stylists who know how to cut curly hair! read more

Today was my first time to Hair Wizardry and I was thoroughly impressed. I found them through the Deva Curl directory as I was looking for the coveted Deva Cut. The salon was busy but my stylist, Amy, made me feel like I was the only person in the salon. She was attentive, personable and made me feel at ease. She asked me what I loved about me hair and went from there. I'll be honest, I was probably annoyingly vague about what I wanted but she gave me exactly what I wanted. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE CURLY HAIR. Jessica is the flat out worst hairstylist I have ever met. I can't believe she's being recced as someone who is an expert in curls - my hair has never looked so horrible in all my life. I brought in a picture of a haircut that had been very successful for me in the past and gave her explicit instructions. She ignored them both, cut it up by my ears in a bizarre angled bob in the front, yet puffy and round in the back. It's so short I can't even go to someone else to get it fixed. I had made a mess of my hair with red box dye over the span of a year. It just wasn't coming out the same quality anymore and I wanted a refreshing g more natural look. This place is close to where I live so I went to meet Samantha and she was amazing! Talked me through my options and was able to give me exactly what I was looking for with the perfect cut to match! This was a month ago and I am still so happy with my results! She has a new client for life :) I was also really exhausted that day from work and school exams and wasn't in a very chatty mood and she completely understood what I needed and just let me relax and get my hair done haha. read more

I have been one of Jessica's clients for a couple years now, after a recommendation from a curly-girl friend. She has been trained for the Deva Curl line and hair cutting which has changed my hair life! I have nice soft curls that I have been taught how to style and the cuts have always been great. I've been from long to short, without bangs to straight across and back again - and have loved every cut so far! Jessica is very personable and understanding of the sometime frustrations of wild curls which makes it easy to sit in that chair. She's always happy to teach me step by step how to do my hair at home on a day to day basis. The salon itself is very welcoming and comfortable, and of course they carry the Deva Curl product line so it's a 1 stop for me. I have been coming here for at least 6 years and have had great service and wonderful hair care for those years at a great price.........until today. I was super excited to see my stylist today and get rid of the greys that cropped up during COVID (and there were plenty!) All I had coloured were my roots nothing else, no haircut, and what a surprise when I went to pay! The price increased by 70%! I can understand a small increase to help recoup some of the costs associated with COVID. I would be ok with that. Today was ridiculous! To have my roots done would cost me $80-$90. Today I paid $157! Outrageous. Time to look for another curly hair stylist. So disappointed! read more

I don't normally post negative reviews but I really wasn't pleased with my experience at Hair Wizardry. Mistakes can happen to the best of stylists, so I won't use any names as I would not want that to affect their clientele. I was in the market for a new stylist and I read the reviews/live close so I thought I would try HW. Upon arriving at my appointment, I was told my stylist would be with me. 25 minutes after the scheduled time, they were ready for me. Hair is a fickle thing, appointments run behind. Whomever is at the front should give the customer the heads up that their appointment would be delayed. My stylist apologized profusely, totally get it, no harm done! Because they ran behind and there was a walk-in, my stylist rushed through some of my colour application. They missed areas along my hair line as well as a chunk in the back. Luckily for me, I do have my licence and will be able to cover up their mistake. The issue I had was the fact that the salon didn't seem to care too much. My cut/colour was $210 ($250 with tip), and I have portions that need to be done. When they called me back, I was told that the stylist doesn't work Monday but they would call me as soon as they spoke to them on Tuesday. At 3pm I still hadn't heard anything so I went to the salon to see if someone could help me. The person at the desk had no idea who I was (meaning no note left). My stylist came up and told me the formula and said a quick sorry before they took a client back. Luckily I can fix my own hair (at my cost) but for a customer who does not have those capabilities, it would be very difficult for them without resorting to box colour. I wasn't even offered a chance to come get it fixed. The salon seemed nice inside, clean, and there seemed to be great team work but if this is how they handle customers especially when it's their mistake, I don't think I will be going back. read more

Curly and wavy hair ppl, Sarah is your person. When it comes to customer service, Sarah takes the time to listen to what you want and don't want and it shows up in the cut. I've been growing my hair and fringe for a few years, so not taking too much off the length was priority. We agreed on an inch, a real inch, and that's all she took. She took the time to go into detail on layers and styling techniques which was relieving and informative. She recommended products but in no way was pushy about me purchasing them. I've been here twice now (both times about a year apart) and had my hair done by Adrian. I couldn't be happier. I can trust him to do my hair right without needing to micromanage anything. He's very personable, nice, was able to give me good advice on colouring (since I tend to colour at home . . . and he made me feel better about the fact that my white hairs have significantly increased in the last few months but I'm just self-conscious about it and don't need to worry about it yet). I've always been terrible about going in frequently enough for haircuts, but I'm happy enough with this place that I'll be making more of an effort to do so. read more

I have curly hair, and have a tenancy to not get my hair cut as most stylists don't know how to cut curly hair and I often walk out unsatisfied. So I googled hair stylists in my new adopted home of Edmonton and came across Hair Wizardry! I emailed them looking for more information and hadnt heard back.. so a week later I called. I spoke to the lady on the phone for some time explaining to her that I am terrified to get my hair cut and colored as I haven't had a good experience in the past. She was quite helpful explaining what they do and recommended a stylist to me; so we made and an appt and a week later I was in. Before my appt I googled several different ombre hair colours I wished to have as I dont go often I thought the ombre look would be a good fit for me as the hair grown-out look is part of the style! I explained to my hair stylist that I was very nervous and new to this DevaCurl program. She seemed quite confident and explained how the DevaCurl works. She asked how short and I said no shorter than my shortest length was. She asked if I wanted it to be defined around my face- I told her she was the expert and knew what she was doing (1st mistake), so she went to town and cut this and cut that. I went on to show her the colour I wanted my hair, she recommended not go that blonde, again her being the expert I let her talk me into a "caramel" colour.(2nd mistake) Instead of doing the ombre look with a natural root, to a gradual lighter tip, she threw in a few "caramel colour" foils(folis for a ombre?) in only on the top part of my head (why not eh whole head?)... Again her being the expert I let her do her thing. She then went on to wash and use this special no poo Deva product that was an extra charge that no one asked me if I wanted it. She styled my hair and off I went. Over the next week I tried styling my hair on my own and grew very frustrated with it as the bottom layer was to long for the rest of the cut and there were several pieces that were never cut- still had my dead ends. The right side where she "defined it" was to short and very bold, there was several little short pieces throughout that just looked terrible. The "caramel" foils quickly became copper penny and it just looked like I had terrible foils done months prior that had grown out. It came to a point I almost went and bought store hair dye to cover it up, but after spending what I spent to get my hair done for the first time in a year, I called them back and scheduled an appt so I can sit in a chair for another few hours to get my hair done yet again. So at my next appt, I had little faith in my stylist and just wanted it to be done and over with, I asked her for her recommendations. We sat there for almost a half hour trying to decide what to do, she brought over another stylist to get some advice and talked about a demipermanent colour so I said to just cover my whole head with as close as my natural colour you can get and in the end she put in a too dark of a colour, my roots are reddish colour. We never did fix my hair cut so I went home and with a pair of scissors and had to cut those long stingy pieces that she missed. Besides my Stylists being friendly, I had a terrible experience. I spent over 5 hours in their Salon, $250 spent to go home with a colour I hate (worse than I went in the first time) a cut that I cannot manage. I could have saved myself the time and money and never did anything with my hair. I recommend you proceed with caution and always ask yourself are you sure they know what they're doing, and speak up if you don't agree- this is your hair! Sincerely, A Curly Mess. read more
