We stayed in a suite with a jetted tub and fireplace-a treat during the cold Iowa winter. I highly recommend staying around Christmas time as the house was decorated with charming Christmas decor. The thing that sets this place apart from other bed and breakfasts we have stayed in was the incredible breakfast! Joan is an amazing cook and provided us with a 3 course breakfast of parfaits, mint and cranberry scones, and a breakfast pizza with bacon. Everything is elegantly put together and made me really sad I couldn't eat but a few bites by the last course. Luckily we were provided with to-go containers for us to enjoy later.

I have spent many many days here in all seasons of the year and have always been treated with courtesy and concern and good cheer. Frankly, it has to be a major pain in the butt to do this right but honestly i have never witnessed, in all the times i have stayed here, a bit of bitchiness or eyebrow raising on either Duane's or Kristy's face. I think those of us from big cities do not expect to be treated nicely unless there is a veneer of anger below but not here. Duane and Kristy are real, down home nice people with nary a bad thing to say about anyone. Each room is carefully curated with pieces of furniture and decoration from the mostly early 1900's. Everything is always clean and fresh. The Morning breakfast perfectly prepared. I remember the first time i drove into town (my 3rd visit to Denison having somehow survived a couple of stays at a terrible motel just outside of town) during a very cold, snowy evening in December. I got lost of course initially then i came upon the Providence Inn: brightly light and decorated for Christmas.Remembering back i actually landed on the doorstep of a neighboring B&B, 3 huge bags in hand probably looking like a stranger in a strange land (which i was). The proprietor looked at me as if i were crazed and directed me around the corner to the Providence. And thank God he did not have any space at his Inn because his referring me brought me to the Providence where i received same. The Providence Inn: I was Home. Or at least from first sight, i felt i was Home. The surroundings certainy felt homey and warm and inviting. I was greeted, after trudging up to the front door by smiling, shiny faces who helped me with my bags and offered me everything from Egg Nog to Hot Tea asking me several times if i were cold with that thin coat and did i need a blanket to warm up. I have spent summer days on the porch (i mean who has a porch in Glendale?), drinking wine and chatting with neighbors who pass walking their dogs. And remember these people do not know me from Adam yet they are just doing what people should do: converse with you, ask to your health. Be Mensches. I love it here. You will too. Just leave your pretensions in Los Angeles, kick off your shoes, take a seat on the porch, open a bottle of something and enjoy Life as it should be lived.

We were pleasantly pleased and impressed! Dreamy Victorian/country decor and design. It's spacious and has a neat history! -Interesting use of closets to create bathrooms too! Lynne made us feel at home. She welcomed us at the door upon arrival, gave us a tour, we visited a little, then she gave us our privacy to enjoy. We had a loosely-planned schedule that took us to Ida Grove for wine tasting, a terrific meal, sight seeing and some hiking.  In the evening, we made a point to spend time on the porch at the B&B to sip some wine in some pleasant June weather. It was relaxing! Lynne, knowing these plans from our conversation upon arrival, was so thoughtful and left out two wine glasses along with a corkscrew to open our bottle of wine that evening. Breakfast on Sunday morning was delicious and delightful at a table next to paned windows overlooking the side yard.  We couldn't have been happier! We now have an amazing memory that we will share and tell for years to come! We think the price was very affordable! In fact, we plan to come back in the fall. We highly recommend the Inn at Battle Creek!

Everything about our room - the decor, the bed, the attached sitting room, the private balcony was amazing. The lake is a block away and the stroll along the lake and into the park was tranquil, quiet and clean. Breakfast was wonderful (and huge!). Chris gave us a tour of the home and the history. We were able to see every other guest room and all were beautiful. This was our first time to Storm Lake, but we will most definitely return and stay at The Gables. We would have loved to have had more time to explore the antique shops and nice downtown - next time! (If you love antiques, Walnut is only a little over an hour away..........the entire town is antique stores and you must stop at Roberts Bakery!)

Called and Roger was able to accommodate us for our anniversary dinner at the last minute. There was one other patron, a regular, who was super fun to talk and share some stories with. He stated that Roger had the best steak ever, but he was out of them for the evening so we intend to come back and give it a try another time. Our chicken Alfredo and baked salmon were fantastic. We honestly could not recommend a better experience and were so glad we chose to take a chance and not go to the steakhouse 20 miles down the road as recommended by our hostess. We decided to stop there for a night on the way back from a trip to North Dakota! Deb made the most delicious German pancake casserole for breakfast! She also sent me home with a huge Christmas cactus with an aloe plant in there too! I still have that plant!! If we ever pass through again that would be the first place I'd try to stay at!
