I have found when you get a delivery from some supermarkets the fruit and vegetables aren't of the standard I would pick out. I have been delivered bruised bananas and limp lettuce before so I was delighted with my delivery from this deli. An online ordering service that delivers fresh deli products straight to your door is a winner in my book. The salmon was fresh and tasty, the bananas perfectly ripe and the lemons large and juicy.

I mentioned the strength of it to the manager, who used to own the greengrocers on that site,and he said he would make sure i would get a strong cup next time. Sure enough, it was stronger but still a bit small. The third time i went in, i told the waitress that i wanted a strong cup so she told me that i needed a double shot of Espresso and because of that, it would be £2-60. I've never paid that much for a coffee in my life. In future, i will go along the road to The Olive Branch, a lovely little Turkish eaterie and coffee bar which has also just opened. Their coffee is strong, in a bigger cup and is only £2. I must also try their meditteranean food , which, judging by the fact that its always packed, is very good.

It certainly draws a crowd though - when I visited, at around 11am on a weekday morning, the queue was coming out of the door. Sadly, I didn't get much chance to see what all the fuss was about, as the vegetarian fillings were limited to cheese and tomato or - my choice - a soggy, soulless cheese and onion slop, but the meat options certainly looked like they were going down a treat. Served in sandwiches, paninis, toasties and jacket potatoes, the Halal fillings seemed popular with the young Asian community, no doubt attracted by the deli's modern approach, but seemed to have their fair share of western fans too. This area is a real melting pot of different cultures, and Deli-Chez does a good job of catering to this - it's just a shame they haven't factored veggies into the equation.

I'd spotted them crop up on Yelp a few months back, and had bookmarked them in my head. I love brunch, and I don't know of many places in Leeds that serve it, so it had to be visited. The chap and I made the trip up a few weeks ago on one semi-sunny Sunday, a short but pleasant constitutional from my house, and wandered in. Being as the windows are single pane, and the kitchen gets hot inside, the windows were completely steamed up and it was quite warm inside. That mattered not, as they have a few seats al fresco, which still feels like a holiday to me, even if Otley road is busying away right next to you. It afforded us the opportunity to watch a plucky crow investigate a bin whilst we waited for our order, which is an added bonus. (Not one I can promise you'll have when you visit, mind.) I'm not sure if I mentioned how much I love crows, but that's for another piece of writing. I ordered a coffee, cherry cola of the Fentimans variety (the best one) and the French toast with bacon and maple syrup. The chap had eggs, although I'm sure if I recall correctly, he was tempted by a breakfast burrito. The food arrived fairly quickly, and I've nothing but praise for my French toast. It was as eggy as you like, crispy in some places, soggy in others, and had a plentiful pot of syrup to accompany. The bacon was perhaps a little too crispy for my liking - I've one or two fillings that I always fear breaking - but of course, I ate it all up. I'll just ask for it a little softer next time. You can partake of more English style eats here, bacon sandwiches and the like, but really it's all about the brunch. And with cushions, magazines, papers, and other cosy accoutrements inside, I can see this being a warming little spot come the colder weather. There is a seating area both inside and outdoors to eat at. They serve a lifesaving full English breakfast at a reasonable price, and can be responsible for reactivating your brain, following a night out. The other side of Yum Yum is a convenience store, selling fresh fruit and vegetables, pastries, tinned goods, various snacks and a range of wines and beers. They are significantly overpriced, but that is the cost of convenience. I also think their nearby rival Simpsons stock a far better range of products. All in all, it is a useful place to have around, but there are superior alternatives in the area.

The saviour of so many lunchtimes has been Yum's. They never fail to have something interesting on offer. There are usually several hot options such as pasta bake, burritos and a roast pork baguettes and a couple of really good sandwich specials. Highlights for me have included pulled pork with salad and chipotle mayo and ham, smoked cheese and onion marmalade both on sourdough baguettes. The footling hotdog was also a touch. You can also have your own sandwich made, they have loads of filling options and the cakes look awesome- its like subway if subway sold proper food! They do a large range of American sweets and drinks although every other shop in Leeds seems to offer these now. Yum's also have a massive selection of beers and I believe they open for dinner in the evenings doing pizza etc, if I lived at brewery wharf I wouldn't need to go anywhere else! They are a little expensive when you consider a meal deal at Sainsbury's is three quid but what you get is vastly superior. One of their daily special sandwiches and a can of coke will set you back about a fiver which is pretty good as you'll get something really tasty you will actually enjoy!

It's ever so slightly hypnotising, I could stand there for ages decided what to have today. There is such a range of on offer it is hard to make a decision as what to talk about, so I'm going to go for my faves! The red lentil cake: rich in both flavor and colour. These little orange squares are are dense and heavy and so are surprisingly filling. The texture is, for lack of a better word, lentil-y, but in a soft and squidgy, in a way that makes me think it is the winter duvet of the mithai world. The pistachio barfi is lovely, the pistachio flavour shines through the soft, spongy condensed milk texture that i love barfi for. I would recommend to avoid both the barfi and lentil cake, if stodgy, comforting sweet things don't float your pudding pallet. All of the sweets are sold by weight and the proprietors are more than happy to explain what is what, and the ingredients of each. It's not just sweeties that you can find here at the lovely Anand Sweets. There is a range of savoury delights, such as pakora and bhaji. I heart the bread pakora, filled with slightly spicy potato and deep fried. It makes a tasty hang over lunch, but it's not one that agrees with the slim line waist line. One day, I'll try something from the range of veggie curies that this pace has to offer, which, if everything else is to go by, are going to be super.

The top 3 would be the Rasmalai (the one which is dark brown in colour with a white creamy layer almost lookign like a sandwich), the moong dal halwa aka the red lentily sweet that the previous reviewer describes and the winner is the moti choor laddoo which is a ball made of small beads all glued together (not literally of course) using sugar syrup. If you dont have a very sweet tooth, you can try their savoury items like the bhajis and the pattice but again the winner is their veg samosas. Try their Samosa chaat and you are in for a treat. Hot Samosas dipped in tangy tamarind sauce and spicy mint chutney garnished with onions and Sev are an absolute delight. They also offer lunch and dinner to take away so try their Chhole Bhature (traditional Punjabi cuisine) which is very different and unique to them and very rarely seen in Balti houses across the UK

The deli counter itself is full of delicious cuts of meat, and in accordance to what the foodies said, were excellent quality, premium in fact. They went around the place, happily buzzing between the marmalades and jams, wines, marinades, sauces, olives, oils, all of the important stuff you require from a deli. Whence the foodies bought what they needed to stock up on, I decided I was a bit starved and when in Rome, let's eat. My healthy sized New Yorker sarnie at £3.30 was a delish combo of chicken, pastrami, and Emmental, minus the gherkin cos they are sooo nasty. If I'm feeling really naughty I'll end with a rustic muffin or passion cake. Well it's part of my five a day so it can't hurt can it. it's a nicely done out shop too, well stocked and easy to use. We need to keep these fine eating places alive and kicking. We need more of them. We need Cranberries Hampers in our lives.
