I heard this was one of the most popular stops last year. I really enjoy the nerdy stuff so this seemed right up my alley. It's a guided tour that takes you past their main stations and then into a classroom. The other half of the tour is a room with a couple of displays to show you environment enforcement seized goods, and various weather data collectors. I know they just work with what they got.. but it was a little dry I suppose. Still enjoyable for the geek in me.

They are located within walking distance of the picturesque DeWolfe Park, right on the shore of the Bedford Basin. Uh... Where was I going? Anyway, that's now I remember the MacDonald is the old (smaller) bridge in town. It's also the only one with a pedestrian cross and cycle crossing. On opposite sides. Don't mix them up, people! The cycling path apparently sucks. I wouldn't know, I've never done it for fear of the Halifax side with their giant steep U-turn. The pedestrian crossing is fairly good. Though the new fencing they put up (...for no particular reason that we'll discuss...) does make it hard to get those beautiful panoramic shots of the downtown that were a staple of bridge crossings in the past. If you do walk across (and it doesn't take very long), bear in mind it gets quite windy up there. But stop for a moment and you'll realize who much the bridge moves with each and every car. It's both scary and fascinating. It's a great walk; I just wish there were more immediately on both sides to draw you in more. BEEP-BEEP

I'll save you the gritty details of my dealings with a different Country's system, and instead give a loud round of applause to Nova Scotia's Vital Stats department. Thank you for making my life easier! I found out yesterday that I needed a long form birth certificate, and that I needed it in a hurry. I applied online for the document and called the Hollis Street office pronto to find out if the document could be quickly prepared. I spoke with a nice gentleman who sent an email and asked me to call back today. I made the call this morning and was told I could pick it up anytime today! I was also told that the priority post fee of $20 that I paid would be refunded since I was going to pick it up in person. When I got there today, I was greeted by multiple people offering me assistance. I had my certificate in hand within a matter of minutes and was so relived to deal with real people, in person, who seemed to genuinely care about what I needed. I wasn't just a number, and for that Service Nova Scotia, I am very grateful. Thanks again for the great service.

The lady behind the counter was very friendly and assisted me with filling out the sets of paperwork. She came back with them very quick. Every time I have been here, it has been pretty busy. You go here for just about everything, from wedding licence, birth certificates, etc.
