I absolutely hate to leave this review and have been hesitant to do so. I went to Halo for 3 separate services, 2 cuts and a style. I'll start with the style. There was no style. I went in to have my hair done for a night out and after 30 minutes, I knew I wasn't getting what I asked for. It was just condescension and a random spritz of spray in the air. The curl fell out of my hair within 30 minutes and my hair can hold curl for 3 days without product, so I was shocked. I booked the service because I was exhausted and just didn't feel like doing my hair. I was late and so I just paid for my service, left and said nothing First cut I received was with Ryan. He didn't listen to what I wanted, cut me unevenly, and I had some of the worst split ends I've ever had within a month. During the cut I could tell his shears were dull, but not I didn't realize just how dull. He kept trying to flip my hair forward on the right to cover the mess up. I mentioned it and he told me I was just overthinking it and so I went on my way again thinking I'd do my normal style and see how it looked. Sadly it was the cut. I wrote an email to the owner and she graciously asked me to come in so she could fix my hair. She agreed it was cut uneven and she did the cut I originally asked for, which cut everything that Ryan had cut. There was no ends left untouched. Sadly, it was the same situation as before! I could tell within a week of the cut that the ends were going to be bad. Because of my layers, it has been an absolute nightmare to get rid of these split ends. And it is not because I use heat on my hair, the last time a dryer was used on my hair was when I was styled at Halo and I do not use any curling or flat irons. I use a satin rod for heatless curls. I went nearly 3 years without a cut or trim due to Covid and had very few split ends. My current stylist in Oregon that my sister has been with for 20 years is working on getting my hair back in shape but it's been a months long process. She's cut my hair many times over the years and she is just dumbfounded because she's never seen my hair look like this, even in my box dye and bleach days. I'm sorry I have to leave this review, but 3 separate bad experiences warrants it. read more

I went to see Megan for a haircut and she did an awesome job! I went in with some dry and damaged spots throughout my hair, and walked out with shiny silky, soft hair. My hair feels lighter and overall I just feel pretty haha. She also used this lemongrass shampoo on my hair and it smells amazing! I had to bring my daughter (2yo) to my appointment and everyone was very accommodating. Everyone was also wearing masks and following COVID guidelines. The facility was very clean and chic looking. So I had my hair completely destroyed by another salon about a month ago and needed it to be fixed before a wedding. Then halo got me in just in time before my flight and let me tell you .. amazing. Ryan was the one that did my hair and immediately I could tell he completely cared about what he was doing. I asked him for advice about how we should go about the situation and let him have complete control and let me say he did not disappoint. He suggested we do it in sessions so we could keep my hair healthy yet make it look presentable. When I looked at myself in the mirror I was so extremely happy with the results. I quite honestly love him for taking care of me and my hair.. as well as making me feel at home! Before my hair felt so fried and messed up by the other salon but leaving there it felt absolutely amazing and looked the part as well. He will definitely be my stylist for the remainder of my time living in Alaska. I cannot thank him enough for correcting my hair and making me feel good about myself! 10/10 would recommend getting your hair done by him or anyone else in this salon. The vibes you get from this place and these people are %100 worth it. I had Janet Shropshire. She was absolutely amazing! So sweet and kind and she even offered me a beverage. We had a great conversation as she put in my 30in tape-in hair extensions. They looked so gorgeous! She educated me on how to take care of my hair extensions and made me feel like a queen! The Halo staff was so friendly, the salon was so clean and upscale. This is the best salon I have found in Anchorage, and I do not let anyone else cut my hair. My stylist has made recommendations over the years that are always on point and I now get constant compliments on my color in particular - I trust her to make sure I look my best. I have also had my makeup and hair done for professional headshots and events by Halo - I have never had a relationship with a stylist like this, they are just so consistently good. Reception is always friendly and understanding when I call telling them I am going to be late, which I always am. Amazing female-owned and run business!! read more

Halo salon is not only my favorite Anchorage salon, but it's the only place I have been to in Alaska where they didn't butcher my hair. Years ago, when I first moved to Anchorage, I had long hair and went for a trim. The guy gave me a freaking fringe cut (a la 90210 Shannon Doherty) that was away off base and looked terrible on me. I went to Halo and met Ramona, the awesome owner. She helped me find a hairstyle that would fix the disaster but look cute. The next visit, I even ventured into perm territory, which turned out to be just the thing for my limp, fine hair. Gave it a whole new life, and she did the perm perfectly. I never could find another hairstylist to do the perm right after I moved away. I moved back to Anchorage last year, and now had very short hair, and I decided to try a different place (basically, I saw a woman with the exact haircut I wanted and asked where she went/who she saw). Well, maybe the guy had a bad day, but he butchered my hair. Luckily, this place was right by Halo, so I walked over, tears streaming (and it takes A LOT to make me cry about my hair) and happened to fit right into wonderful Tara's schedule. It was like fate because she managed to take a super short, messed up cut and turn it into a bitchin' style. I have been going back ever since. Everyone at Halo is nice, personable, stylish, and just fun to be around. The place doesn't have a stuffy or snobby air at all, even though they all seem to be capable of doing cutting edge work (pun intended). I came to Milena for a trim. I have short hair and I brought pictures of how I usually wear it, and I gave clear instruction. She didn't listen to me and I came out with a brand new look that I'm not happy with. Even the way she styled it showed no attention to what I was looking for. I really hoped that it would grow out well, but it's not even a good haircut. Several weeks later I still see scissor lines, especially in my incredibly chopped up bangs. I've been agonizing over this review for a few weeks because it's a cute salon with a number of stylists so I expect that my experience isn't typical. read more

Megan has been taking care of my locks for the past 6 years ever since moving to Alaska from Miami, FL. I was so nervous at first to find a new hair stylist after coming from a big city but ended up hitting the jackpot with Megan! I LOVE going to her and couldn't imagine anyone else doing my hair. She is so talented and just an absolute sweetheart, I trust her so much I just let her take the reins and she always does a wonderful job. She was even kind enough to come to Palmer for my wedding day to do my hair as well as updos for my bridesmaids and mom. We all looked stunning. We had a very poor customer service experience. My daughter went to have her roots touched up. The hair was done fine. However the stylist was incredibly inconsiderate of her time. She did my daughter's roots, dried her hair and then left her while she did a different consult for over twenty minutes, meanwhile she just sat in a chair waiting for the curl. (She did not do the consult while her color was setting. She left to attend to someone else at the very end when she was finishing up). When the stylist returned from a consult she took maybe five minutes to add a few curls. Certainly she could've finished that few minutes up prior to doing a completely different consult for over twenty minutes. Had it been me, I would have said something or left but since my daughter is young (17) it seems this stylist thought she could be dismissive or take advantage of her since she wouldn't say she was bothered. Very unprofessional, a 17 yo should be treated with the same respect as the other paying customers and will definitely not return. read more

Look no further for hair care! Not only is the salon super chic in a great location (with parking), but Megan is the only person I trust with my hair. I have long hair and she gives me layers that add volume and look amazing straightened and with beach curls. She also does the best balayage and takes my brown boring hair to dimensional blondish perfection. As soon as lockdown is over I'm booking the first appointment to get my lighter summer look. Malaurie does the best facials! My dry skin (made dryer by this miserable weather) was crying out for moisture and a good exfoliating. Malaurie delivered on all accounts! I went here to get my hair done for my birthday. I wanted a change and so I had them do a brunette to blonde balayage. For some reason after I left the salon my hair reacted oddly and continued to oxidize and turned brassy. I called the salon and Ramona immediately got me in to fix it. She worked with my hair until it was absolutely perfect without charging anything additional. This is a salon that stands by their work and makes sure their customers are 100% satisfied. I love my hair now. I totally recommend this place! The staff are welcoming and inviting. I'm having my hair done there for a ball soon so I'll try to remember to update this with pictures from that too. read more

Absolutely phenomenal cut and service! Very COVID safe as well. I first went back in August because my hair was growing back after chemo and just really wild. It was a challenging length and texture and had many weird patchy spots. Kayleigh not only gave me a fantastic cut for it to grow out with, she was very compassionate about the whole situation. Fast forward to January and it was overgrown again. This time there was more to style and she gave me a fantastic pixie that is so flattering and cute. I was feeling very much "not myself" with all the changes but she really tapped into my style and helped me to feel good about where my hair is now as well as do a really smart cut that can help it grow out well. That takes true skill. Even prior to this I struggled to find a decent haircut anywhere in Anchorage - I'm a convert now! They are also very Covid safe and have many precautions in place. I had to take a moment to rave about the salon. I have been in several times over the last 5 years and have always left very happy. I've had waxes lash lift and tint brow tints facials and hand massages from Malaurie and they have been amazing. Her facial last time was so relaxing I actually fell asleep! Went in for a wax and left with a palm-sized bruise in a sensitive area. Had to sit on an ice pack for a couple of days, it hurt so much.

What turned to be a 15 minute consultation appointment at Halo Salon with a hair dresser named Shauna, turned to be just 2 minutes consisting of me sitting down and her brushing my hair with a comb while shaking her head saying that I wouldn't achieve the color I wanted & if we tried, it would cost me $800+ dollars and five sessions to get to the color close to it. Mind you, I have virgin hair, and up to my shoulder length, and light brown hair. I wanted to go blonde. As she stated this, she continued to compare me to an another customer (EVERYONE has different hair, do not say my hair will react the same). Well, guess what? It only costed me around $65 to get the color I wanted at Trend Setters. I went from a light brown to blonde in only one session & just one more session to perfect the shade. Thanks for nothing, Shauna. ALL UNDER 800 :). Maybe my experience was terrible because I had Shauna but it was a very VERY terrible experience. I wish I could give Halo NO stars, since you wasted my time. If you're a professional hair dresser, and you don't think you can achieve something like this and provide NO SOLUTIONS or let alone TRY, for your customer, then I advise others to take their business elsewhere or at least with someone there who can provide great customer service. read more

I saw Ashley a couple of Saturdays ago. Short hair demands attention to detail: the shape of the head, the face, the overall body type, does the client want clumpy looking sideburns, or are they looking for delicate wisps, etc. I was very dissapointed. My stylist was talking waay too much about her life and paying waay too little attention to my haircut. I felt like I could have gotten the same haircut ofr 15 bucks at a hair school really. Needed to find a new salon fairly close to work. when my hairdresser moved away. Someone suggested I try Halo. Worst suggestion ever. This was my worst ever haircut and the most expensive one ever. I will not go back. My hair was butchered! The stuff they put on my hair at the very end of the appointment turned to a gummy surface, and took me 3 shampoos to get it all out of my hair. Used to lay down smoothly, now I have to work on it with a curling iron to get it smoothed out at all. A real mess. Not going back. read more
