This was my first time here. What a great little festival,…read moresomething to do. Traffic was not the best getting into the parking lot. Very slow moving and took about 10-20 extra minutes waiting in line. I like that the school was using their parking space for fundraising for the sports clubs so you know the cost of parking is going to a good cause. The festival itself was decent. It had a lot of food vendors and a crap load of local shops/vendors (added photos of some hand made items). It actually took a while to look at everything! There was a handful of rides for the kids too. I do wish there was more corn themed food options like elote, or grilled corn, or other food dishes using corn in more creative ways. There was only 4 corn things (that I saw): corn on the cob, corn ice cream, kettle corn and a stand to buy a fresh bunch of corn. Corn on the cob 10/10. Delicious, sweet corn, dipped in butter (pretty sure it's unsalted butter). They had tall stand-up tables set up with salt shakers to eat your corn at or in the tent next door had picnic tables to sit down too (or you can eat in the beer tent... It was crazy to me that they allowed underage people in the beer tent if they were with their parents. They couldn't drink obviously, but allowed the family to stay together. At that point, they might as well just have allowed you to walk around with a plastic beer cup.) I didn't try the corn ice cream but I'd like to next time! Kyle tried the bacon bomb sandwich from Hammi's BBQ truck (photo posted). He says he could eat it every day for the rest of his life. I thought it had too much sausage in the mixture. I'd like to taste more of a bacon/pork flavor than sausage. But other than that it really was good.

This could've been improved by adding a 4-way stop in front of the parking lot entrances, or to have someone directing traffic. There were a lot of vendors, but I agree with other reviews that actual vegetable options and healthy options were limited. It was a lot of made to order imitation meat items. However I still had a good time. The best meals I ate were a vegan gyro from Grass Fed in Rochester which was outstanding. I also had a jackfruit bbq sandwich from Guud and Evul in Tonawanda, which was also very tasty. I got some date bars and date cinnamon rolls from Date'd (Buffalo) which were incredible as well. Overall, I'd come back again and would love to continue to discover local vendors with vegan products.

So we definitely support the Veg lifestyle, and were excited to finally make it to Veg Fest. :-D Veg Fest was held at Buffalo Riverworks, with vendors set up on the ice rinks. Free parking was a nice perk. As per the vendor set-up, it could have been better. Lines were long, and snaked into each other. With the popularity of this festival apparently growing, it would have been nice if vendors could have spread out into other parts of the grounds. I was also disappointed with the lack of actual vegetables at Veg Fest. Sure, all of the foods are vegan and completely made out of plants. BUT all of the foods were also very unhealthy. Just because something is vegan doesn't make it healthy. Everything at Veg Fest was sugar-shock-carbo-loaded junk food. As a keto'tarian (I eat low carb and low sugar), I actually didn't eat anything. At least one vendor with an actual salad or vegetable dish of some sort would have been nice at Veg Fest. I mean, "Veg" is in the name. One suggestion--add a farmers market to the festival. I would have loved to purchase local produce at Veg Fest!! Sell Veg Fest reusable bags at the farmers market, and I would have been thrilled to fill up a keepsake bag with fresh food grown in our area. And I bet others would too!! So yes, this is a festival, and festivals are usually decadent, rich, indulgent gluttony. Veg Fest is no different. But in the context of this festival, that seems like a lost opportunity to me. Yes, junk food is probably more of a gateway-tastebuds-drug to lure people over to the plant life. And if that happens, that is great!! But a better balance at Veg Fest of both unhealthy festival foods and whole and healthy foods would really showcase everything that going Veg has to offer.

I was able to receive meatball samples from many restaurants and breweries. My two favorites were Arriba Tortilla and Ellicottville Brewing Company. Arriba Tortilla had an enchilada meatball that was fabulous!!! They had sample of margaritas and a pricy tequila. I enjoyed my margarita. Ellicottville Brewing Company was my other favorite stop. They had a meatball that tasted like goulash. Their staff and Arriba Tortilla's staff were super friendly. AND EBC gave our free chapsticks and bottle openers. I took a Blood Orange Hefeweizen chapstick. Every other restaurant paled in comparison to my two favorite restaurants offering samples. 42 North had free beer samples. (That came with our ticket price.) Also, there wasn't seating, you had to stand and eat your meatballs. Luckily, my friend and I snagged a spot to stand at by one of the tall tables, with two other meat ballers. There was a cash bar near us but we didn't want to waste our money, since some places provided alcohol. This event was great and was definitely worth the $28! I'll definitely return next year!!!

I checked the schedule, and thought that this year something has changed for the better. Some key words like 'bigos', 'kompot', 'pączki', Bacik, 'kanapki', 'sałatka jarzynowa', 'naleśniki', 'sernik', 'placki ziemniaczane z gulaszem'/potatoes pancake with goulash, and of course 'Husaria', made me want to be in Cheektowaga and see what's been happening in Polonia lately. Let's not forget about a live disco polo band. Real disco polo music could be a refreshing change from the constant polka vibe. I'm not a fan of either, but disco polo music, like the band "Korona", much better reflects contemporary Poland, definitely more than the polka bands. Polka is for the older generation of Polonia, or those who were "raised that way." Two Tyskie and a shot of 'cytrynówka' could even make you dance like nobody is watching ;). The Polska Chata came from Rochester, NY. I wanted to try everything that they offered. They were out of 'gołąbki, and I already had cheesecake from Genevieve's. 'Sernik' from Polska Chata was very tempting. We ordered the 'bigos'/hunter stew, which was actually very good. I would definitely go back for a potato pancake with meat sauce. Their 'pierogi' were fried, and I prefer just boiled. It must be easier to serve that way during festivals. 'Gołąbki' from Redliński Meat were surprisingly very tasty. With better sauce, presentation, and faster service, it would be a much nicer experience in general. Of course, we checked out all the vendors. The one with the vast collection of amber jewelry was very impressive. His booth looked like one in the 'Sukiennice'. I also remember the wooden boxes, Polish hand-painted pottery, Christmas ornaments, and cool felt stuff. We always enjoy people-watching, guessing who is truly Polish and who is Polonia. It's good to hear Polish spoken at an event like this.

The festival takes place in the town park of Cheektowaga. Official festival parking was available for just $2, though there was also ample free parking within a short walking distance inside the park. Admission to the festival itself was free. Visitors are welcomed at the festival gates with a large sign that reads "Witamy" (welcome). The grounds are divided into four main areas: the stage, a crafts and gifts tent, a central food and dining area, and a food truck zone. The vendors offered a range of items, from traditional Polish bombki (Christmas ornaments) to Buffalo Bills merchandise. I skipped the food trucks and opted for the main dining area which featured several restaurants and caterers, many with long lines. I ended up choosing Polska Chata, a family-run restaurant from Rochester. The husband and wife team, both native Polish speakers, were working the booth along with their daughter. Their deep-fried potato and cheese pierogi were a tasty festival-style twist on a classic. The gołąbki (cabbage rolls), however, were the real standout with tender cabbage in a rich tomato sauce, generously filled with meat. After eating, I made my way to the main stage. When I arrived, musicians and singers were performing; later, traditional Polish dancers took the stage. It was a great experience to witness and celebrate these vibrant expressions of Polish culture. If you're passing through western New York in July, this festival is well worth the detour. It's a lively, welcoming celebration of Polish heritage, food, and community.

I love getting food from The Grange Outpost and cookies from Gingersnap Patisserie. There's lots of local business stands (realtors, Urgent Care, pediatric dentistry, etc.) and plenty of wheels to spin for the kids. They are bound to come home with a bunch of free pens, frisbees, and bags, hahaha!

The Festival is held annually around the same time frame being mid June. Usually the weather has been quite nice. This time rain was predicted off and on while we were there. There were many blocks of vendors selling the typical types of art, some stores were open, food trucks and port-a-potties. It dripped rain on occasion but not enough to dissuade attendees. One could also enjoy looking at the Allentown Historic homes all along our walk. Awe inspiring! Free street parking on Sunday. Hours are 11am-5pm although many vendors are already set up from the previous day of opening. We arrived shortly after 10 am and were able to view several vendors. On one particular street if you skip one empty block, you'll notice a number of tents. The is an alternative festival in conjunction with the one we attended. If you wander by, you'll notice more eclectic artistic items for sale. Wacky t shirts, crazy jewelry and bohemian style clothing.

First off, all proceeds go to the Buffalo Zoo, which is great. There was an abundance of food and alcohol and though there was a lot of people I never felt like I had to wait in line for too long. All the vendors were super friendly and seemed excited to be there. I left ridiculously full. Looking forward to next year!
