It was confirmed, but then rescheduled by Laura for a personal commitment, which was fine. Unfortunately, that was the last we heard from her. 2 days before our scheduled appointment, I tried to email her for a confirmation, and asked her which forms of payment she accepted, as well as what to do in case of inclement weather, since none of this information was available on the site. No response. The next day, I tried calling several times, and the phone rang and rang. The day of the appointment, I finally get an answering machine, and I tell her that we are on our way. This was almost a 2 hour drive, and the weather was cloudy with a forecast of showers. I didn't want to flake on the appointment, so we set off. As soon as we get there, the heavens opened and starts pouring. Laura comes out and seems surprised to see us, BUT SHE NEVER RETURNED OUR CALLS OR EMAIL TO CANCEL. We had no choice but to turn right back around and drive back another 2 hours. A complete waste of gas and a half a day, that could have been avoided if she was at all responsive or responsible. She never did follow up. Looking through other reviews, I see mine was not an isolated incident. Completely unprofessional and rude. Don't bother making a trip down here unless you want to get stood up.

Even though I emailed way back in December to book for April, she was very responsive and communicated clearly throughout. The booking and reservation process were very easy, and we got a weather check and update a week ahead of our date. When we arrived and met, it was so obvious that she lives for these majestic birds. Their relationship is something that you just have to see to understand. Her knowledge and passion are inspiring, and although I'm already a bird lover, anyone who comes here will leave with a renewed, refreshed relationship to nature. It's awe inspiring to get so close to these amazing animals, and thrilling to see them in action. Other than sharing educational raptor facts, Lorrie is full of warmth and does everything to make sure you're comfortable. As a one woman business operation myself, I really admire how energetic and positive she is doing it all! Highly recommend coming here!!!! The MWPAI has two main buildings and includes a lovely collection of paintings and sculptures. The highlight of the museum is the set of paintings by Thomas Cole on the top floor of the main building. These works illustrate various stages in one's life cycle from youth to middle-age to older-age. I was impressed by the quality of the collection here and a visiting exhibit of works by a contemporary artist from Atlanta. We arrived around 11:30am on a Thursday and went immediately to the Terrace Cafe after a quick restroom stop. The cafe is open from 11am to 3pm Tuesdays through Saturdays and has outdoor seating. I was impressed by the quality of our bistro-style lunch prepared by a professional chef. We enjoyed some iced tea and the fried deviled eggs with horseradish, dijon and scallions as an appetizer. My 13-year old son devoured his MWP burger (mustard-whiskey-peppercorn glaze), while I had the Saratoga Quiche which was light and refreshing. We were too full for dessert. Who knew that Utica could provide an elegant yet affordable lunch with a lovely outdoor view? Be sure to ask the waiter for recommendations on main dishes and appetizers. Although the service can be a bit slow, it's a delightful spot for a leisurely lunch where you can relax and unwind.
