This is the Mushroom House in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Cincinnati. The amount of detail is really breathtaking: circular steel steps, deck rails of wood shingles, stained glass windows, tiled ceilings... of course, I had to snap some pics. How often do we come to Cin City. The original owner/builder by the name of Terry Brown has passed away in 2008. It was started to get built by architect Terry Brown in 1992 and completed in 2006. Terry Brown him self resided in it until his passing in 2008. This house looks like a mushroom from a certain angle, and like an owl from another. It is a fairytale house in the real world. There's so much fine detail, there's no wonder it had taken this genius man 14 years to complete this artistic masterpiece of a home. The spiral orange stair case was chained off not allowing access to the public. There was a car parked in the driveway as well as a surveillance camera. They also had a "no trespassing" sign. The land around, although very minimal is very well groomed and well kept. Something tells me there are people who currently reside here. I don't know how I would feel about living in a home that gets so much attention and that is always being photographed. The Mushroom House is a must see in Cincinnati. As I found myself at the Pleasant Ridge Branch Library, I thought I was at the Northside Branch…read moreagain. While the two don't look that much alike, I could tell the Pleasant Ridge Branch was close in age to the other (current site opened in 1929), it had the same general rectangular shape, and it had the same brick exterior. Inside it was smaller, but it still reminded me of a mini version of the former Cumminville Branch in Northside. No matter how old a Cincinnati Public Library branch is, they all keep up with the times and have large DVD selections. At Pleasant Ridge, it was no different as there were a ton of movies and also many popular TV shows now on DVD. I also saw lots of magazines and a small selection of newspapers on top of the many books. There was more or less a left and right side to the check out area, but it was essentially all one big room. On one side there was a large children's/teen section, and there were several computers too (a few on the other side). I read online that the library has a "collection of material about the history of the community," and one thing that actually caught my eye while at the library was an upcoming event called "Professional baseball players live among us." In the display case near the door it said that on August 11th, six former pro baseball players (some Major League, some Negro Leagues, some both) will be at the branch to meet with library-goers and to sign autographs. One of those players will be Chuck Harmon, the first African-American to play for the Cincinnati Reds, while Leo Cardenas (Reds), Bill Schlesinger (Red Sox), and Charlie "Whip" Davis (Memphis Red Sox) are a few of the other former ball players expected to be on hand. A program like that is very cool in itself, but also special for those in the area. Just last week they even had the UC mascot stop in. Overall the Pleasant Branch Library isn't that great but it's organized and does have a pair of meeting areas that fit 10 and 100 people. The best thing is the historical material about the community, as well as the related programs they hold like the upcoming baseball one.

I never know what I will find on the shelves, but there is almost always at least a small pile of books interesting enough to take home. On my most recent visit, I happened upon Rabbit, Run, the first in John Updike's series, and Saturday, by Ian McKewen, as well as Fire Sermon, my Jamie Quatro. All were excellent. As is true of all branch libraries, any Cincinnati Public Library holding will be sent to the Pleasant Ridge branch at a patron's request. The library also offers interesting one-time programs for children and adults as well as programs that involve a series of classes. And, the staff is consistently helpful. The Pleasant Ridge library may not be physically impressive, but it will serve your needs. Several years ago neighborhood residents got together to paint the library themselves when the library could not get funds to have it done. That says a lot about the library's value to its patrons. Good to have staff there to assist you when you get there. They were super friendly! Come 10 mins early. The space also has study rooms and plenty of tables. Lots of kids from after school come here. There are also lots and lots of children's books and audiobooks for all ages. PCs available for use in 1 hr increments. It's best to come while kids are in school. Once school lets out kids and teens are usually on all the PCs. This library is in a beautiful building with some interesting architecture but it could definitely use some new paint on the inside. Definitely worth a visit.

It's well taken care of, and there's always a good selection of books, DVD's, and even CD's. This would be considered my local Post Office but I've probably only been here a handful of times…read moreover the years..a little bit more recently. Almost every single time I have to come here it's frustrating. There's never more than one person handling customers. The line, whether it's only a couple people long or outside the front door, moves at a snails pace. I've literally waited in line here for over a half hour at times. It's just not acceptable..it gives you the same feeling like you're at the DMV half the time..and that's the worst. I've also noticed recently that the cost of postage to send things through USPS is just skyrocketing. Seriously..I've gotten cheaper quotes from UPS..even FedEx at times. I don't understand why their pricing is getting so ridiculous. I know that the postal service has been struggling a lot the past couple of years..but this is not the right route to get things back on track. It's literally just driving your potential customers to seek alternative options for their shipping needs. So yeah..like I just said..come here if for whatever reason you don't have any other choices..but seriously..there are a lot of cheaper and friendlier options out there that you'll probably be better off going with.

That is not their fault for how long it takes. However I said I am picking up a package and I have the tracking number. She said "well why would it be here?" Ma'am because we got an email saying we would have to sign for it and it was at the post office. I explained I had the tracking number and any other information needed to be as accommodating as possible but the rudeness is unacceptable. Especially when it is happening every time we go there.

She derserves the greatest of praise and we thank her sincerely. We had scheduled Premium Forwarding on line starting in mid January and also put a yellow card in our mail box at 7779 Glenover Dr to hold the mail starting Jan 9 until Premium Forwarding was to start. However the carrier continued to deliver the mail into our 7779 box until a neighbor called and said our box was running over. We had our daughter pick up our mail and send to us. I called and was fortunate to get Ashley on the phone. She understood the situation and made corrections to stop delivery to 7779 and start Premium Forwarding. She corrected the overcharges for Forwarding even when there was nothing to forward. We certainly hope she will be there next winter to assist us in obtaining this Premium Forwarding without the problems of the past.

These used to sit on the pedestals right outside the front door. There is a parking lot around the back of the library and Gordo's is directly across the street. This location is conveniently down Montgomery from Kroger making it an easy stop on the way to/from the grocery store.
