11-19-23 Noon…read more Upon entering there is a fee for non members of $9.00 to be paid at the gate Cash Only. If you live here you would enter through the left side and drive on through. Once inside you drive quite awhile past beautiful homes and trees until you get to the resort. We actually made a wrong turn which is easy to do. The only traffic is those residents out for a bike ride with their family and friends. We made it to the Links which is the restaurant overlooking the famous golf course. It is pristine and perfectly maintained. Parking is free and there is no valet. Luckily we found a place to park as spaces were limited. There is a Golf Shop on site with every piece of clothing bearing the emblem of the lighthouse. Unfortunately I was unable to find any sizes in either men's or ladies clothing to buy that would fit us. They are that popular and must go through a lot of selling to both tourists and residents alike.

In addition, I rented clubs ($75 plus tax), plus the resort fee ($9 plus tax), and there was a $9 entrance fee to the resort. My all in was over $700! I have played the nicest courses in CA (Pebble & Spyglass), as well as the nicest courses in Hawai'i where the pros play (Kapalua, Hualalai, et al), and I don't recall those courses costing as much as HT. Positives: Ian, our caddie was excellent. He knew the course well, gave good distance info and read putts well. I had a few opps for birdie bc of his accurate distance. On me tho, I only converted one birdie. Negatives: In addition to the sky high price, HT is not that special of a course. The sig holes are nice, but not that nice IMHO; Cart path only for the whole course, so you will get your steps in! I enjoyed my day bc my playing partners were nice and Ian was a great caddie. However, I would not play here again.

The design of the course was not too challenging. I was a bit disappointed in the condition of the greens and the cart paths. There are a couple of wooden bridges that are pieced together so much, they should just put down a rubber mat. For this time of year, the fairways should be a bit more plush. The greens were aerated and sanded which made putting much more challenging. Very nice staff and pro shop. You don't need a gate pass to play. The course is separate from the private community.

The club house is not even located at the end of nine holes, it's a 5 minute drive to get there and 5 minute drive back. We didn't even stop at the turn. We were so delayed at 10, we were able to drive back between 9 & 8 to go back to the bathrooms. When we returned the group in front of us were just finishing up their second shots. Please explain how we were behind pace. Just arrived at 15 and he thanked us for picking up the pace, "I told him we were playing any different", I think he realized he was wrong. BUT, my group will never play here again. PS, if you play here bring bug spray, the mosquitoes are rampant.

They have 10 possible tee areas ranging in slope from 152 (Championship) to 103 (Family short). Restrooms on hole 5 and 13 with honor bar refreshments which are paid after play ends. The fairways were plush and free from most divots. The greens were in great shape and very fast. Some of the greens are the size of a postage stamp. The challenge is getting the ball to hold the green. The course isn't overly challenging. There were a couple of holes where the trees and marsh come into play. My worst hole was number 11 when I found myself behind a group of trees on the left. Pace of play was good. We started at 12:30 and finished at 4:30. Very nice practice range and putting green. They also have a chipping green next to the practice range. The clubhouse was very nice as well.

There was a beautiful setting with a pier right on the water - magnificent as the sun went down. It is the epitome of Low Country living.
