This hotel has really gone down hill over the last few years. Severally outdated and dirty. Our family has Diamond status, so we've stayed in many Hilton brand hotels across the country. By far, the worst Hilton brand hotel I've ever stayed at. Room was dirty, black hairs on the bathroom floor, and stained bedding. Stained, exposed, box springs on the beds. Do not stay here. Stay literally anywhere else - a campground would be an improvement. It is frankly ridiculous that Hilton allows this hotel to carry the Hampton Inn brand name. When we travel for leisure it is almost always at a Hilton but this has soured my impression of the entire Hilton brand. Keep in mind that night we stayed it was $250/night. I have stayed in hotels in downtown Chicago for less than that, but I digress. Front desk staff was very rude upon check-in (basically said nothing to us, did not mention breakfast, did not offer water), just handed us our keys. He had his earbuds in and we had to rap on the counter just to get his attention. There were flies circling and over-full garbage can in the lobby. We checked in and went to dinner. When we returned we stayed up a bit. We pulled back the covers of the bed and IT WAS FILTHY. There was sand, hair and dirt all on one side of the bed. I called down to the front desk, he suggested he could bring up clean linens but that we would have to make the bed. When I insisted that was unacceptable, he moved us to the "Whirlpool Suite", which trust me, was NOT an upgrade. Tub was stained (not that we were going to use it) and the shower was literally falling apart. Unable to sleep, I googled reviews for this hotel (since it was a Hampton Inn, I didn' t feel the need before we left) and found several reviews mentioning bed bugs. We did not find any but of course I did not sleep at all. We could not get out of there fast enough and did not stay for breakfast because we did not trust the cleanliness of the hotel. read more

I would rather sleep in my car. Firstly, we are a Hilton Diamond family so we stay at our fair share of Hilton properties. Our experience this weekend at the Hampton Inn Muskegon was possibly one of our worst. We were given a room on the first floor, right near the front lobby. Upon entering, the room smelled extremely musty and old. The bathroom door is covered with mildew. There was a burning odor coming from the hallway all night long. But, for the really fun part... we were forced to leave our room (and hotel) at 11:00pm on the second night of our stay when I discovered that both of my arms were covered in bug bites. I spent the rest of the night looking for another hotel to move into and the following morning in urgent care. Absolutely ruined the otherwise fun weekend. Stay here at your own risk! read more

Please note, I have had Diamond status with Hilton for more than 10 years. On this stay, my family stayed in 2 rooms at the Hampton Inn Muskegon on the night of June 15, 2024, and checked out on Father's Day. My family has stayed at this hotel before, and it was nowhere near this bad on our previous stay. The fact that they claimed to be out of all the Diamond member benefit snacks other than bottled water was a tad annoying, but minor. Let's get to the bigger issues. On this stay, this hotel was quite the mess. The rooms were filthy, with all sorts of trash behind the beds, and with stained sheets. The fitness center was also quite filthy and dusty, and with zero towels. The breakfast area is added to the filthy areas. Additionally, the breakfast was supposed to run until 10. However, I'm told by another that they stopped restocking anything at 9. I went to the breakfast room after my morning workout, so I got there at 9:35 to find most of the items were completely gone. No employees were visible in the breakfast room, so I asked at the front desk if it would be possible to get more waffle batter. The person at the desk said, "Absolutely!" She then left the counter, presumably to talk to the person in the kitchen. 15 minutes later, I still hadn't seen anyone in the breakfast room, so I went back to the front desk. The person I originally asked was back. She then said, "Oh, it is too close to the end of breakfast. We aren't going to mix up any more batter." So, I was left waiting for 15 minutes, expecting to see the batter refilled, but was just forgotten about. I didn't even receive an apology for my wasted time. And my wife had been in the breakfast room at 9, when she heard someone else ask for more waffle batter. Apparently, 1 hour until closing of the room was still too close to the end to justify mixing up more waffle batter. Note, I'm not a big breakfast eater, but I really like the Hampton Inn waffles. It is the primary reason I stay at Hampton Inns. As we were checking out, I uncharacteristically asked for a refund, as this was easily the worst Hampton stay I've had in over 20 years. The clerk said he'd mention it to management. Considering how I failed to get notified about the waffle batter, I don't have a lot of faith in ever hearing back on that refund possibility. So, I contacted Hilton via the app. The response was underwhelming. Their response included the following statement: "I apologize for the inconvenience caused. We will have your feedback shared to relevant team so that they can have the changes implemented as soon as possible this is the best we can do from our end at this moment. Rest assured that this does not correspond with the caliber of service or standards that any guest would anticipate receiving. Your comments will be shared with the relevant management team to ensure any shortfalls have been addressed and rectified. We appreciate your bringing this to our notice." There used to be a 100% satisfaction guarantee or your money back. That's clearly gone, as implied by the "this is the best we can do from our end at this moment." After so many years of sticking primarily to Hilton brands, I'm currently feeling like my patronage doesn't really matter to the company. I certainly won't stay at the Muskegon Hampton Inn again, but the response from corporate Hilton may even be enough for me to rethink my future stays with the Hilton brands. read more

I was kind of disappointed when I book my room. I booked the day of and the hotel was full with the exception of the King Suites with whirlpool tubs. I normally don't throw the "I'm Diamond status" out there but I think I should have had the option to book at the normal room rate even though they didn't have any available. The room I got was bigger than normal but the tv was the same size as a regular room. I felt like I had to get out the binoculars out to see the thing across the room. It was summer in Michigan so I understand rates are going to be higher than normal but after taxes I think the room was $290. Seem pretty excessive especially since the hotel isn't even in a prime location. read more

Nasty...see photos of hair stuck to the bathroom ceiling, mold and decay around shower, rot in walls and room ceiling, and during 25 degree weather the 4th floor hallway hvac blows outside air into hallway. Yes 25 degrees throughout 4th floor hallway... goes straight into the rooms. I confronted the front desk where they offered to comp my room but I'm on biz travel... it was already paid for by my company. I did expect them to get the long black hairs out of the bathroom, that never happened during my 2 night stay. Even got defensive upon checkout when I told them I expected the hair to be removed. I gave them early notice and showed them photos. Im a diamond member to the hilton brand staying some 100 plus days a year with this chain. This is by far the worse hotel under the brand. I will not, and can not recommend this hotel to anyone. The company I came to meet with all said this hotel is known by locals to be a nasty experience. Wished id of had the info prior. read more

I have stayed here before and enjoyed my previous stay. This time, however, the room wasn't that great and when I checked in I was told this was an upgrade. I walked into the huge room with king bed and at first glance I liked what I saw but then I went into the bathroom. The floor of the shower was gross and the bench in the bathroom had stains . The hot tub had this weird pink stain on the sides so that creeped me out. The bed was super comfortable and staff were very nice. read more

Disliked · Bathroom didn't have a fan. AC turned on but didn't do much to cool room or remove moisture from room that needed a fan in the bathroom for smell and shower moisture. There was a small stain on the bedspread. Overall room and hotel are outdated and need of remodel/cleaning/repairs. Too close to highway. Room doors are too loud when they close. There was also not enough light in the room even when all of the lights were on. Could have used more ceiling lights not just lamps that contribute a limited amount of light to the room. Only one chair for sitting and not enough space to set stuff off the floor. read more

I wasn't planning on staying in Muskegon, but a last minute decision gave me no choice, so of course I chose this hotel. I've stayed here before and it has always been very clean and the staff are very friendly. When I arrived, I was welcomed by Justin at the front desk who very quickly got me in. He apologized for the "handicap room", which I don't mind. I use my military discount at times, so I think they assume I'm physically disabled. Not a big deal, as I appreciate that they acknowledge and "reward" their veterans. My room once again is very clean and cozy. When I got to my room, Justin called and asked if my room was alright, and mentioned that they are available all night if I need anything. How awesome is that? As often as I travel for leisure as well as business, I know and appreciate a well run hotel when I see it. For the money and the area, you just can't beat this hotel. read more

Peeling chunks of paint all over the flooring in pool area that was getting tracked into the pool to either dissolve or settle in the bottom for people to take in the chemicals while swimming! $300 a night for that?? Up at 2:30am, might as well write a review because I'm not sleeping. Hotel's one of the older ones, in desperate need of a remodel. The entry looked updated, but the rooms are very outdated. But you have clean sheets, towels, tv, refrigerator, microwave, and space. There's nothing special, but a few quirks... - the super thick comforter is all polyester, I mean, if my room were 30 degrees, I wouldn't mind. There's no breathability in it. - it gives me a creepy vibe with the peephole and gaps in the door, which I block with towels and paper. - there's a hole in the wall, so I blocked that with paper as well. - agreeing with other reviewers, this room is DIM-- 3 lamps with fluorescent lighting. - bathtub has 5 handle bars?? - Meanwhile, there's no place to hang my towels. - bathroom is huge, yet I have a tiny corner sink with a weird 3 panel fixed mirror, where the center strip is the width of my hand... totally going to try another place if I can help it next time for business travel. read more

After looking for a hotel in between Fruitport and Grand Rapids, for an el cheapo price, but wasn't going to supply us with herpes, we chose this Hampton Inn. It's located on Ellis Road, which is behind the Target plaza (had some trouble finding it). So once you see the Target, make a left! Checked in late our first night around 11:30pm and were greeted by a really nice woman. Got to our room and were pleasantly surprised! King Bed, sofa, coffee table, microwave, refrigerator, desk, TV and a nice big bathroom! We stayed three nights and were really glad we picked this location. Free breakfast every morning too! So, I travel..a lot. A LOT, A LOT. Sometimes, I have to take a chance on hotels based on recommendations I find online. This was one of those times. Upon arrival, I was not necessarily blown away with this hotel. Some Hampton Inn's are absolutely beautiful, and this one was obviously an older location. The rooms are VERY simple- a bed, a desk, a tv, etc. No frills, nothing fancy. What I appreciated SO MUCH was that this hotel was CLEAN. I literally travel with a lysol can (call me psycho, I don't care, I've been in way too many hotel rooms and can share more stories about high-end hotels that under the surface, are gross). With my keen eye of inspection (lol), I did not find one hair, anywhere. I appreciate that this is also a pet-free hotel. The staff doesn't seem to be large in numbers, though they are so friendly and accommodating. They never missed a wakeup call, always delivered the morning paper, and easily recognized us--of course, we stayed for 11 days...:P Just a couple downfalls---fluorescent lights. Especially if you work in the beauty industry, doing beauty -related training for near two weeks, these lights SUCK. Also, the towels, while clean, were obviously very worn. I love that the hotel is right behind Target (my favorite store EVER), and I've done something I've never done before--I went and bought my own towels. They were a pretty bright pink set....though more importantly, they weren't used (I hope). Other than that, I'd recommend this location for business travelers passing through town. This is my second time in Muskegon. I stayed here last time too, and it doesn't look like they're sitting on their hands. The check in staff were very friendly and accommodating. They obviously care about what they're doing and go out of their way to help with the little things. The call to the room after check in was a nice touch. Very clean rooms, and the lumpy duvet was a funny touch. Nice heated pool with a treadmill and stationary bike in the workout room. Breakfast was standard fare, waffles, eggs, sausage, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, and of course, coffee, lots of coffee... Staff out a lot cleaning up and restocking. A question about more milk to the front desk brought immediate response. I like it here and I'm staying another week. read more

My husband and I were in Michigan and stayed at the Hampton Inn for one night. The hotel is in a nice part of town but on a freeway and does get noisy from traffic. Unfortunately there were some rude and loud (after midnight) people staying on our floor. The woman at the front desk didn't wear a mask and we only saw 2 other guests wearing them. We wore ours. HEY EVERYONE the Delta variant is strong! They had several Purell machines around the common areas but they were all empty. So I'd have to say Covid precautions were not in place. The hotel is a little older and could use a remodel. We only got one travel size bar of soap and no water cups. The 24/7 coffee is nice and included breakfast in the morning is good. The hotel was ok for one night. Don't plan on being in Muskegon again if I am I'd try a different property. read more

Fairly standard Hampton, simple and straight to the point. Always enjoy a hotel with a warm breakfast to start the day. Beds comfy, room fairly clean. Slightly outdated and dark. I was in Room 320 and got a little loud with the traffic accelerating on the on ramp and highway right outside. Convenient to the office I was visiting and a number of restaurants and shops (always good to be near a Target, make sure to try Traverse Pie Company). Use digital key and checked in on app, all quite convenient. Left my phone in my room and asked front desk for key, gave it to me by confirming last name and room number. The one thing I needed for my front lobby coffee was either Vanilla or Hazelnut creamers! However due to the Corona scare they were not allowed to serve it????? However the coffee pot handles are still being touched as well as the cups you pour the coffee into and the stirring sticks as well. Not to mention the whole breakfast area as well! The General Manager Julie is not concerned about lying, ghosting, and putting on a full display of greed. We took every avenue to remedy the situation behind the scenes, leading with kindness and patience, speaking with Hilton corporate and Julie herself. It's been a month and a half now, no action or resolution, and Julie's pulled a fast one on a senior citizen who was promised not to worry and that she'll be taken care of in a time she was distressed late night in the airport. Do yourself a favor, stay in Grand Haven, Holland, Silver Lake, Mears. Muskegon Hampton Inn is not worthy of earning your business. They don't understand how fortunate they are when you choose to stay with them and they certainly don't know how to treat their guests with dignity or honor. 1 star is too many to give. read more

I stayed here for a wedding I was attending in the area. I called about 3 months before the wedding for the reservations and was told it was a total of $151. Then when the date finally came I payed $150 in cash and covered the rest of the charges with my card. Then found out my card was charged an additional $151! It turns out that it took three people to realize that it was $151 per night! So needing a hotel I payed the charges. Come days later they double charged my card an additional night. The staff there has no idea how to properly handle problems. The hotel was nice but the problems caused by the staff and reservations wasn't worth the stay. read more

We called up months ago to book a block of rooms for my wedding. Was told over the phone that we were all set and the rooms were booked. They were not. The woman in charge of dealing with booking rooms was incredibly rude... telling me that she was a very busy woman, too busy to remember the phone conversation she'd had with my Mom 30 minutes before. She also implied that we never actually made the phone call to book the rooms in the first place. Absolutely unpleasant to deal with. I don't recommend this hotel to anyone, especially brides looking for somewhere for their guests to stay. Lesson learned, I'll get everything in writing from now on. read more
