Rob is the man! Been going to Handsome Devil since 2011 when I moved to Albany, still continue to go there even though I live in Corvallis. Great haircuts, good atmosphere, they hand you a beer when you walk in, Rob is dry and sarcastic, if he asks you if you came for a haircut just tell him some BS like you came for the view or the yoga class. I have about 4 or 5 of my license plates on the wall and more beer caps than I can remember. All my friend go there now too, one rides up from Eugene even. They also use a straight razor to clean up the edges and offer a shampoo, Rob only does the shampoo if your gay otherwise one of the girls do it. I am not much of a smoker but I bought a pipe and supplies there and a few cigars. Been happy with everything but I don't know much. Massages are offered at a discount with a haircut but I have never had one. I am putting this up here today because I have tried to get a few haircuts in Corvallis and am always unsatisfied so I thought I would put a plug in here for Handsome Devil as they are my favorite. They don't do cheap haircuts either, so expect about $20 or so, there is a beauty school down the street if you want a 6 dollar whack job. read more

Second time coming here to bring my minor child for a haircut. Haircut is fine, a little pricey but no complaint. This ISSUE is a lack of consistency with how they choose to apply a military discount. The first time I brought my son in who is 13 years old...there was no issue and they kindly applied a discount - I should qualify that I did not ask for it and the lady inquired if I was a veteran. That said, I come back the second time and when I went to pay the bill, they tell me it only applies to the person actually getting the haircut?? This is my minor child...with me, not some other adult. Just saying...be consistent. I still tipped but won't be coming back. read more

EXCELLENT haircut and FANTASTIC service! I went to four different barber shops in one day, only to be turned away at the first three for one reason or another (not taking walk-ins, closed, etc.) THIS one had plenty of customers, yes, but they kept allowing walk-ins and everyone knew to just be patient, watch the games on TV, chat or not chat, have a free water or soda... what's not to like?!?! When it was my turn, the young lady who cut my hair was very friendly and best of all, she gave me the best haircut I've had in over a year! I came here for the tobacco!! Greated by friendly staff. Nice choices or pipe tobacco and cigars and pipes and zippo lights. Prices are on point and not way over inflated. It's nice clean shop. Looks like a nice place to get a hair cut as well. read more

Unfortunately, this establishment needs a lot of work in terms of customer service. The women are in need of a lot of training in how to interact with patrons and seem to have forgotten how to smile. When I walked through the door, the women cutting a female customer's hair looked over and said a greeting, which is great. No smile, though. I sat and waited for my turn. A blonde employee took her place at her station and said, "Next!" No smile, but a clearly-communicated position that she wanted to be anywhere but there. A gentleman was ahead of me and took his seat. I went back to reading and waiting. When my turn came, the blonde repeated her earlier call, no smile. I took a seat, told her what I wanted and we began. Not ONCE, did she engage me in conversation. Not even a single, "How are you?" Instead, she spent the entire haircut talking to her co-worker. She couldn't have seemed less interested in her paying customer if she tried. I was severely disappointed, as I place a high value upon customer service and congeniality. If any of my employees behaved this way in my company, they would face disciplinary action. I rated two stars since she is at least competent in cutting hair from a head. How many times can you drive to this establishment only to have it closed? Enough to finally review. Oh don't worry their voicemail will say just look on Facebook, and when you do, nothing will be on there. So you drive to the business and guess what, "we are closed, sorry for the inconvenience". Or better yet they will post to their Facebook 30 minutes after they're supposed to be open, that they will be closed. What a joke of a business. Great haircut, don't get me wrong. 5 stars there. However, worst communication I've ever seen from a business. Unreliable hours of operation. I get they're a family business and have kids football games to go to. It's like being held hostage and only being able to get your haircut when they say. The biggest problem is they don't care if they have your business or not. Same reviews like this one on Facebook, only to have the owner (Rob) complain that this (Facebook) isn't the place to make a review. Actually Rob when you set up a business account on Facebook that has a spot for reviews that is exactly where you should make a review. If they cared, they would set up text message alerts so their customers who have been going there for years (like me) would know if they were open. But like I said I don't think they care one bit. Just got my haircut by Kelsey she did an amazing job (as always) she trimmed my beard,shampooed my hair, straight razor with hot shaving cream for your neck. Her scalp massage and hot towel is amazing. Not sure what all the whiners are talking about on here this place is awesome. This is a local owned business and when they want to take a vacation they need to close down people need to understand that and give them a break. They definitely take it to the next level. There is no comparison to other places, which sometimes I end up going to but this is always my first choice. If you haven't given them a chance yet you should try them out. Don't pass up the shampoo and the hot towel it's very relaxing. Plus these guys are open on Mondays which is kind of unheard of in the barbershop world. There is a reason that this place has so many negative reviews. The atmosphere seems alright until you hear any one of the staff speak. I entered the business waiting to get a haircut as there were a few people ahead of me. The establishments doubles as a smoke/tobacco shop so I started to browse around to pass the time. I was looking at a couple pipes when one of the barbers very rudely asked "Is there anything I can help you find?!" As if I was being intrusive or snooping around the store unwelcome. I told him no and he turned around in a huff obviously upset at my browsing. To break tension I asked him if there was a roundabout time how long the wait was, his response was rude and sarcastic: "Um... well there are three of us cutting hair, and three people ahead of you, so you would figure 10 minutes." Maybe this is just how this man talks, and that may work for him in a social situation but when running a business this type of talk to a potential customer is very offensive and offputting. I'm not your "homie", I'm not your friend, I'm not your boyfriend, so don't speak to me like I'm a dog. Never returning. ***UPDATE*** After writing my review several months back I decided to give this business another shot. In fact I decided to give them my business 4 separate times after this to make a coherent and well thought-out opinion (as any sane consumer would do). Here's what I found: Pros - Good haircut (most of the time). Staff was friendlier. Good selection of alcohol to choose from (for those of age). All the staples of a decent barber shop. Ok, enough of that. After giving some considerate thought about the impact of what a bad review can do to a business, I was going to rewrite my review. As someone who does business advising, investing, and management I figured I would want a fair re-write for myself. BUT HOLD UP! Just like clockwork, right before I was going to update this to a fair 4 stars, "Rob" the business owner just so happens to email me on Yelp. Instead of doing what a respectable business owner would do and try to reach out to me to remedy the situation and attempt to have me be a loyal/supportive customer, his email contained wordage that had the essence of a 3 year old throwing a temper tantrum. Saying that my review was unfair. Here's a grown man pouting like a child. I responded to him defending my review, saying that others I know think likewise about his business. His response, and I quote (copy and paste): "Your a piece of work. Who are you 2 judge anyone? Im sorry you had a bad day and mommy didn't give you enough hugs or leave you on the tit long enough. Get a life...." This is the boy (can't bring myself to say man) running this establishment. This is how he thinks about his customers. I genuinely feel sorry for the following people: the staff, the insurance company covering the business, his attorney, and the landlord who rents space to this degenerate and who will most likely stop seeing rent payments soon if Rob continues to run this business as he has. Brought my husband here for his 60th birthday as a treat. He usually trims his own hair and beard at home, so I thought this would be a nice change to make him feel special. They serve adult beverages and a selection of tobacco here, I guess, since nothing was ever offered or explained either while I was on the phone beforehand, or while we were in the shop. I can't complain about the haircut/beard trim, that part was ok. But just ok. Nothing special going on here. Very minimal in the way of customer service. I did note that the guy in the next chair was getting the hot towels and neck massage, and lots of witty repartee. I also noted he was quite a bit younger than my husband...and bald. Get a great haircut every time! But only when they're open... They shouldn't have working hours posted because nine times out of 10 they are not accurate. And you don't find out until you show up and there's a white piece of paper on the door saying "not open today". Extremely frustrating! So don't bank on their operating hours, otherwise you'll waste your time. read more

Great haircuts- Poor customer service. I have been here numerous times. Usually a good cut. I always make an appointment and they are never honored. Each time the person requested is there, but do not acknowledge the appointment. One time a few months ago I was handed off to a brand new girl who the owner Rob was training on me. Again, not acknowledging my appt. Recently I had an appt at 1:00 with owner Kelsey. I got there at 1:00 and owners were out to lunch. The girl working TEXTED the owner that her appt was waiting. At 1:15 the owners weren't back so the one working cut my hair. After a while the owners show up and NOBODY acknowledges the missed appt. Even though the haircut and place is great and I wish them the best, I will not go back to a place that has so little disregard for my time, as the customer. read more

Before I moved to Albany I came here to get my haircut a few times while visiting family. The service at this place has gone downhill DRASTICALLY since those days. I moved to Albany a few months ago and went to Handsome Devil for a haircut; after sitting in the chair the girl who was cutting my hair barely spoke to me and when I made the effort of conversation all I got was brief responses like, "Oh," "I see," and, "uh huh." Half way through the cut, she asked another girl - the owner I think - to help finish cutting my hair because she wasn't sure how to finish. I appreciate that she didn't just try to wing it but at the same time, she didn't tell the woman who stepped in what kind of cut I was requesting. The cut turned out ok, but not as good as I was hoping. Today, I had set an appointment at 2:30 and when I arrived at about 2:25 I went to the desk and gave my name and stated I was there for my 2:30 appointment. The girl at the desk said, "Oh, well, they just went to lunch can you wait?" I asked how long it would be thinking that whoever it was that was scheduled to cut my hair would be back in five minutes because I WAS an appointment written on the books. The response I got was, "I don't know, maybe a half hour?" Then she said, "They don't really look at the book very often." SERIOUSLY!? You depend on customers to earn your living and keep your business running and you DON'T check your appointment books?! On top of it, I gave my phone number when making the appointment so obviously my number was written with the set appointment and I never got a call of apology or any explanation (which there really is NO excuse to go to lunch at the same time an appointment is on the books) or anything to try to get my business back. I will NEVER step foot in this place again and if you're smart, you won't ever step foot in either! read more

Come here at least once a month. Always get a great haircut, exactly what I want every time. Great selection of drinks while you wait and they have TVs to watch any game you're in to. A good shop with good selection, it is attached to the Handsome Devil Hair Salon. I can't speak directly to the quality of smoke shop staff, as the shop is closed every time I have been, but the hair salon staff are very helpful, letting me into the smoke shop and ringing up my order next door. read more

I made a 3:00 appointment. I arrived at 2:50. It wasn't until 3:15 that my presence in the shop was acknowledged. At that time I was told that Rob was "still out to lunch" and that he "would be back, uhm, I don't know when". I've never been to this establishment before, I dont know their SOP. I made an appointment for 5pm. I showed up at 5pm. There were 4 people waiting for haircuts, and one in the chair. I stood in the foyer for a minute with people staring at me like im an idiot. I finally called out to the 1 hairdresser and asked what I was supposed to do. Do I sit and wait, is there a sign in sheet I have to sign, what the hell am I supposed to do? She told me she was the only one there and that I had to sit and wait. Whats the point of an appointment if I have to wait 2 hours for 4 other people to get their hair cut. Also, try greeting your guests that look like they dont know what the hell is going on and dont make them feel like the village idiot. read more
