Builder hired as part of a large full home renovation to do exterior and interior painting…read more Horrible experience all around... where do I even start. Rarely showed up before 9/9:30 in the morning, when he did show up at all (many many days just didn't show up even though he 'promised' to be there). Sent inexperienced painters to the site when he was 'busy' with other jobs which resulted in poor quality of work. Painters did not cover work surfaces - floors, furniture, etc - where they were painting. I spent months trying to scrape paint splatters off of 240 year old wide plank heart pine floors and some of the brand spanking new flooring I put in the re-built part of the house. Came by one week to find them using my $1500 pottery barn desk as a work surface - UNCOVERED - same scenario with a brand new $3000 stainless steel oven. I repeatedly asked them to cover things, which they didn't. I eventually went out and bought plastic and drop clothes myself and covered the furniture myself. I found wood stain dripped (and dried) into my marble floors in the bathroom from the half wall tops that he stained. The windows - oh my the windows. Half the house had new, expensive, historically accurate windows installed. They 'scraped' paint off the brand new windows with razor blades, which is fine, except that they routinely cut into the wood- there are razor cuts all over the wood. The paint job on the windows is so bad - paint drips dried in places, entire sections missed, paint splattered on the vinyl interior sections of the windows (and not cleaned up). Windows were painted and then shut before drying so there are lines of caked, dried paint along most of the bottoms of the windows. The worst experience came on his official last day on my project. I was taking off for a business trip the next morning and when he was done for the day (prob at 3 - yes, he worked 9/9:30 to 3) and dropped off an invoice. I had already paid him in full for the amount he quoted for the interior - but there were a bunch of things that he was supposed to 'touch up' that were included in the amount already paid. There were also some extras which I agreed to pay hourly for. First, the invoice was for more hours than he even worked in the last week. Second, he was billing me for stuff he said was included as 'touch ups' that were taken care of in prior payments. Third, he wasn't even finished and demanded that I pay him since he was going to be done the next day and I wouldn't be home to pay him. I told him I wasn't paying him before he finished and we could do a walk through - I was happy to meet him a few days later when I was back to do a walk through and payment. He decided that wasn't good enough and he needed payment immediately. I told him no - he flipped out - screamed and yelled, slammed doors etc. Blamed me for making him miss a trip to FL so he could finish the job (not true). Don't use this guy. I wish that I had fired him after the exterior was done - I really wanted to but was convinced by the carpenter to keep him - the carpenter who, after the painter's little episode on the last day - said he wouldn't be using this guy anymore.
