The Hanford DMV (and DMV in general) is a head temple that enshrines everything wrong with the government: inefficient processes and systems; poor staffing and management; unhelpful, brusque, and uncommunicative staff; complete disregard for we the citizens that pay the taxes that fund their salaries and the services they provide; Byzantine and nebulous rules and policies that, if violated, cost you more in time than in money--and that's saying a lot. This is by far the worst DMV, just decided last minute to come to this one instead of Fresno and boy do I regret it. The staff was unprofessional, condescending, and rude. I accompanied my mother to do a title transfer when we finally walked in they didn't have their tv monitors for the numbers they were serving and you could barely hear the speaker once I decided to ask they said her number had already passed and told her to get a new number my mom is elderly can barely see talk about unprofessional the staff was very rude and unhelpful never coming back again. These people don't act like they are getting paid to work here seemed like I was bothering them to do their job. Good riddance. read more

There can't be a low enough rating for this particular location. I can't count how many times I been in there and seen just how our tax dollars are being wasted. You can go there for the simplest thing and have it turn into an all day experience. Only to result in them telling about some new law. Many times I have taken a test or been show some new law and pointed out discrepancies and errors. Doesn't matter. They're like robots. You can be given a piece of paper claiming some new law. Even though the language doesn't even state what they claim is how it's supposed to be. Doesn't matter. There is no getting around these people. The DMV is one of the biggest examples of how government can't run anything. read more

Went on a Tuesday at 8 am, no appointment, and was out within 30 minutes. Staff was normal and helpful. Yes they have you wait outside - 1 line for no appointment / walk ins and a 2nd line for people with appointments I would come here again, beats the 8 am long lines in Visalia. read more

This dmv is a little on the small side, but always seems to be fairly organized. There is someone who stands close to the entrance who will help ensure you make it in the right line. The best time to come is maybe 30 minutes before they close. Be careful tho there is not much parking and it's pretty close quarters. read more

Worst DMV ever. Their website said there was zero wait time so we went and they wouldn't even let us in the door, a half hour before closing time. Grossly understaffed. With the insanely high taxes, you'd think they could hire more staff. Several other people made comments to us in the parking lot about how bad the Hanford DMV is. Being newcomers, we hadn't heard it's the place to avoid. The most useful tip was to drive to a neighboring town. I'm sure the staff stuck outside are sick of working in the heat and repeating themselves all day, but there's no need to be sarcastic. A little kindness would go a long way these days. read more

I am thoroughly disappointed and downright disturbed at how overly crowded this DMV is. I had an appointment and didn't have to wait much but lines were out the door. There was no where to sit while we waited for our number to be called, so people were standing around and people with disabilities could barely get around. I felt bad that this lady with a walker kept bumping into people because of the sardine style accommodations. Parking was very hectic both times I visited. I was literally that person who followed the people coming out and stocked them until they found their car. Geez, it's bad. Customer service is okay. There are a lot of employees but they must all be on auto pilot because hardly any cracked a smile. It was strictly down to business. I know we're at the DMV, but dang it won't hurt to be courteous and show some joy. Remember smiles are contagious. Now I have to go pray off this bitterness. read more

There are 22 people in line before the place has even opened and only 2 windows open on a Thursday morning. Had an appointment at 10 am, waked into a line wrapped around the door. Although with an appointment they were able to seat me and give me a # right away still waited over an hour to get to a teller. Every single person working looked like they rather walk out front and get hit by a bus than to help you. Top that with 5 of 11 windows had employees. If this were a non state funded business they wouldn't survive a week. Pathetic excuse of our over taxed dollars at work. Stay away if at all possible! Worth zero stars. Service is terrible. The employees are much ruder than the disgruntled customers. They make you stand in the heat for upwards of 3 hours. They all take a lunch break for an hour and leave everyone in line at degrees near 100. Once you get to the door, they give you a ticket and send you away. Sent me a text 5 hours later. When drive back up they told me I couldn't be served because I have to be there as the ticket is called. Took me four months to get my registration when they refused to only print it out. I went to Coalinga and got everything done in under 45 minutes. We need start holding them accountable. This is unacceptable for a government facility and e need to fight back. read more

The fastest Dmv I've ever been too. They are super strict on paper work and showing up on time though, maybe that's just California. They are supper nice too! They are like how may we help you and it's okay, we'll what we can accomplish today. They even have speakers outside too that tell the numbers. They even speak Spanish and English! read more

Absolutely RUDE. I am a SUPER friendly person and will never be rude to a person even if they are rude to me because thats just the kind of person I am, but these people deserved to be cussed out. I needed to use the kiosk to renew my registration and didn't know if there was a line to wait to use it since it was just the kiosk and not actually an office visit. Before I could even ask the lady, she cut me off with such bad attitude and told me to get in line, mind you it was raining and just one person waiting in line for an actual visit. I began to ask if there were kiosks available there, and again I got maybe one word out and she completely rudely told me to get in line. Eventually I got back in my car and waited since it was raining until the ONE person was let in and I walked to the door and to ask them again if I could use the kiosk. She told me to wait, and she helped 3 other people who got there AFTER me and eventually asked the security to escort me to the kiosk which literally nobody was using. I'd rather make the long drive to Visalia next time just to avoid the rude employees here. My last trip here was during November to get a a registration card, the customer service was just the same. I came two days in a row, and both times I got there at 9AM without an appointment and waited until 4PM to be told that everyone waiting couldn't be seen because they weren't talking any more walk ins after being in the intense hot weather all day. Absolutely trash here. The third day, I just drove to Visalia, got there at 11AM and was out by 3PM, and since it was hot they offered the people waiting in line some water. Literally just never coming to Hanford DMV again. I'm just driving to Visalia from now on. read more

I was amazed of how slow it was today 4+ hours of waiting is ridiculous. God bless the only fast lady there with short blond hair in her fifties. She was was on window 6 today. If only the rest of the staff was as fast and efficient as her. I don't understand why they havent hired more people. Even people that made appointments where furious with the excessive wait time. They should seriously have a few employees come in at lunch time to relieve the ones going to lunch instead on leaving 3 employees to handle the 60+ people waiting. Made an appointment and was in and out! The person who helped me had an attitude but it's DMV that's kinda to be expected. But really suggest to make an appointment! Wish the parking lot was bigger, I wasn't sure where to park since some of the parking spots had cones but still parked there lol. read more

This place has like 20 windows with employees sitting but only 3 windows open with 50 people in line????? I came in about 8am and finally got called by a window at 11:30am, lady told me right away I was not able to do it even though I asked the freaking lady in the front before waiting in line if it was still okay for me to get my license renewed without some documentation she said yes so I waited till 11:30 and the lady said NO. WHAT THE? anyways drove back home (30min) to get my documentation and then back another (30 min) and then the lady said we have to get back in line and wait for a number to get called ... PISSED AGAIN. finally got called around 3:45pm and then decide to tell me I need to take a damn test so it was around 5pm the time I got out. Ridiculous. read more

Shockingly surprisingly positive experience. I guess when you keep expectations low, it's easy to come out ahead! I did all the right things: I made an appointment, did all my applications online, brought my back up documentation, showed up early to the appointment with my confirmation number from the dmv website. Lo and behold, I was seen immediately, the staff was pleased I had all my stuff, and I walked out of there within 10 minutes of walking in. I have been to numerous DMV's over the years and the Hanford office has consistently been the worst. They have the rudest and slowest workers out of anywhere you go. They slowly walk back out after their break and sit there awhile before logging on and pushing the next button. Then act as though they are bothered and have something else to do if you weren't disturbing them. They don't know what to do half the time and give bad info. Most times I will just go to Coalinga, Visalia or Tulare where they are much more pleasant and seem to know what to do and still save time going the extra distance. I renewed my drivers license there recently and it went pretty smoothly considering the number of steps that are involved (application form signature, fee payment, thumbprint, vision test, photo, and in my case, a knowledge test). The employees there were courteous and efficient. I was finished in about 90 minutes from coming thru the door. I have a tip: MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, which is what I did. There was a separate line for those with an appointment and only one person was ahead of me in that line while there was a long line of people without appointments. You can also fill out the application online. The office opens at 9:00 am on Wednesdays and I thought I would get thru faster if I got there early. That was not a good idea. I arrived at 8:20 am and just had to wait in line 40 minutes before the doors opened. By 10:00 am there was almost no line at the entrance. The parking lot is small so you may have to park on the street. read more
