Roaches in the mall near the movie theater.

the overall mall isn't bad but the fact i've seen a few roaches in the food court is genuinely concerning take this as you please

This mall has been going downhill for awhile. They constantly loose shops. I'm guessing businesses are struggling. When I come I go to ross and that's about it. I'll check out the other stores and buy things every so often.

Very sad existence, stores never stay open and the ones that do aren't worth shopping in.

One Word......CACA. Na...jk. It's cool for Hanford. If you really want to shop, go to Fresno or even Visalia, it's not that far.

There is tons of parking. You can just chill at the water fountain on one of the benches and crowd watch. My girls love to go to Rocket Fizz, there is so much cool candy and stuff in there. Through the years businesses have came and went. Some really great businesses. Now the city or whoever owns this area has just let it get run down. I'm writing this review because I just seen a commercial for river lakes shopping area, and it reminded me how the marketplace use to be. Now don't get me wrong, Bakersfield is growing and we are getting a lot more shopping centers. But I'm just wondering why is the city of Bakersfield allowing this place to get run down. Especially because the area it's in. But what can you expect when it started many years ago from the east side heading west. They have allowed new businesses to be built only to forget about them and move on to the next bigger and better projects. Example the movie theater, very run down. The seats suck, the service is horrible, and it sticks as soon as you walk in. The landscape needs to be updated for the whole center. However they do have a few great restaurants. All the great boutiques have left. (I hear the rent/lease is outrageously high), I don't understand why they would put a sola salon next to essentials that has been there forever. Really hope someone starts investing back in to this place.

There is really almost no reason to actually go INSIDE of this mall, the only businesses that seem…read moreto be open and are available only via the interior are Mi cafecito, a t-shirt store, a record store, a tax preparation company, and a juice/snack stand. All other businesses have either access via an exterior door, or in the case of at least one business, you can ONLY access them through the exterior. (The interior gate was closed and locked) Many of the businesses that were hanging on here have apparently moved, with signs giving you directions to their new address. Even the workforce connection and City of Fresno offices that were here are now closed. A renovation was started next to the Caltrans building, it has drab boring grey carpet and walls, but it makes it MAYBE 175 feet into the building, and then reverts back to the original 70's decor. (Which obviously I love, and I think they should have absolutely kept it.) The lights in the main concourse were mostly turned off, and the only people besides myself seemed to be Caltrans employees walking around on lunch, a homeless man charging his phone, and a dude kicking back on one of the benches, chowing down on slim jim's and listening to music full blast from his phone's speaker. It was really sad to see this place in such a state of abandon, though surprisingly I didn't see any evidence of the ceiling collapsing or any other things you might typically see from buildings in this state. There are supposedly some apartments going in here upstairs, but I see absolutely no evidence of this. It was announced early last year and was supposed to take 18-24 months, but I see absolutely no preparation being done, and I will believe it when I see it. (I would also think twice about renting an apartment in a failing mall, where they are banking on the apartments to bring in more businesses.) All in all, it was an interesting trip just seeing the old mall designs that I loved, but sad to see a mall I loved as a kid so empty and abandoned.

I don't believe this place is going to make a comeback as a mall front anytime soon. Considering…read morethe planned renovations what felt like it's going to reach the 10 year mark. It definitely has softened my expectations on what it plans to be. I hear it may be repurposed for apartments which may be a good idea to bring some life back to the community in that area. It heavily depends on its investors and what corporate agenda lies in the plays it decides to make for the future of this location. I come every 2-3 times a year to see if there's any updates to renovations/storefronts. Other than that, the mall culture is dead there.
