If you don't feel adventurous enough to take to the water, why not grab a rug and enjoy lunch at the picnic pavilion, or on the ample lawns surrounding the boatshed. I make the trek down to Audley once a year (around Christmas time) with my nephew, and he absolutely loves it. Once you hire a canoe and hit the water, you can go one of two ways. Left or right! If there is a child in your company, I suggest you go right along Kangaroo Creek. After about 2kms the river tapers out and you cannot go any further by canoe. It leads you to the perfect spot for a swim or bushwalk exploration. But be careful, it can be a little dangerous. I once slipped off a rock while exploring the bush land at the end of Kangaroo Creek and cut my knee open. Not such a big deal, but considering mobile phone reception is nonexistent in this part of the National Park, if something does go wrong, you may have a long, painful canoe ride ahead of you. Audley Boatshed offers a truly unique way to enjoy the vast natural beauty of the Royal National Park. As you sail down the still waters of Kangaroo Creek, engulfed by the music of the rainforest, it will be hard to believe that one of the liveliest cities in the world bustles and pulsates only 30km away.

Located right next to the main runway at Sydney International Airport, Botany Bay is inhabited by all sorts of water-based sports enthusiasts. Everyone from sailors to kayakers to kite surfers take up residence here, and when the wind picks up there's even more of them (although not so much the kayakers, the waves can get a bit choppy). I recently went out on a friend's boat, and it really is a great place to be out on the water, especially if you're like me and very much enjoy being so close to the planes landing and taking off! Nothing quite like the sight of a 747 a few feet above your head as your sailing along! It's also a fantastic place to watch a sunset from as it goes down right near the skyline of the CBD, creating an awesome silhouette of the city. The beach bordering the bay stretches all the way from Brighton-le-Sands down to Dolls Point, along The Grand Parade, and there are various car parks along the way for you to park up and sort your equipment out!

Also, you can feed kangaroos and wallabies which was so exciting. You can buy bags of food to feed the kangaroos for $5 ($2 for single bag or $5 for 3 bags). It was worth it but the kangaroos were more interested in eating the grass. Don't worry though bc the zoo has goats and they will eat up your food. Overall, it's definitely a smaller zoo than Sydney's zoo but I like the charm of this zoo. Highlights: Koala, kangaroo, wombat, dingo, red panda, cheetah and emu. I'd highly recommend this zoo as I got to pet a koala and a kangaroo! You can finish the zoo in a few hours. I got here at 9:30 and left at 12 with my behind the scene koala scheduled at 11:15-11:30 (then you wait for the pictures to be transferred to a flash drive).

We decided to do the wedding cake hike, here was our experience. Directions: What's nice is that this is a common hike,; the directions are simple if you're at the main entrance. Hiking Difficulty: If you're coming from the main entrance, it really isn't that difficult, if you're on the trail, you don't need fancy hiking shoes. Overall: 4.5 stars. I enjoyed the hike here. I admire the different scenery from the ocean to the rock patterns. Shading changes now and then and it took maybe 1.5 hrs total. There are many more things to see, so be sure to plan and schedule things accordingly. TL;DR Tips: * Parking is free but limited * Bring hiking shoes to be safe. * Wedding Cake Rock is now gated off * 2nd Oldest National Park in the world!

About a 45 minute drive from Sydney CBD, Royal National Park is definitely worth a visit if you want to get away from the city. With the lush beauty, peaceful surroundings, various wildlife, scenic hikes, and relaxing beaches, Royal National Park doesn't disappoint. As part of a small tour group, we visited the Royal National Park back in January 2014 and enjoyed the gorgeous views from Stanwell Tops and Sea Cliff Bridge; the cool, calm waters and warm, soft sand from Jibbon beach; and a mild hike along The Coast Track for a breathtaking panoramic view of the blue Pacific Ocean. Whether visiting Royal National Park on your own, with family or friends, or as part of a private tour group, there's plenty of activities to suit your needs: hiking, biking, picnic lunches, canoeing and kayaking... the list goes on. It's the perfect place to spend a day or two to relax.

Lars, our instructor, was knowledgeable, super friendly and patient in helping us learn to surf and move to tackling larger waves along with giving us important information about rips and surf safety. Our two hour class had 4 people at differing levels so got a lot of time enjoying personal instruction. This course really got me excited about surfing and confident in handling waves up to 3-4 footers. Was a super enjoyable time. The lets go surfing Maroubra location also has changing rooms and storage for your kit/gear while your out in the water.

The Bundeena and Maianbar Art Trail in Sydney's South is open for visitors on the first Sunday of…read moreevery month from 10am - 4pm. There are 20 or so artists that are part of this unique and insightful walk. Plan some time to get there as there are two options to journey over to Bundeena. You can choose to drive to Cronulla train station and catch the ferry from Gunamatta Bay to Bundeena. The ferry runs every half an hour however check the timetable before your trip. We chose to drive which is a 25k drive from Cronulla and headed towards the Royal National Park. It's easy to follow all the signs through to Maianbar or Bundeena wherever you fancy starting the walk from. The trail is easy to follow with big green and yellow art trail flags which are displayed outside studios which are usually the artist's own homes. We were pleasantly surprised to meet so many of them who love to discuss the inspiration behind their work and a few even provide tea, coffee and snacks to encourage conversation. One of the artists we enjoyed was Peter Mulder who is the creator of this art trail, he has a beautiful home with Australian native wildlife sculptures and vibrant paintings of the Kimberley's to where he is regular visitor. John Kepeski was also a favourite. He creates these beautiful little sculptured wooden boxes that curve and twist unexpectedly and can custom make upon request. My husband and I first learnt about this art walk when we watched a documentary on Shen Jai Wei a celebrated propaganda painter in Maoist China. By the 1980's Shen Jai Wei lost his faith in communism after watching soldiers open fire on student protestors in Tiananmen Square in 1989. That same year he migrated to Australia on an English study visa. This appraised artist found himself drawing portraits for tourists in Darling Harbour. His works can be found in the MCA in Guggenheim in both New York and Bilbao. He joined the Bundeena community of artists with his wife who and daughter. Fascinated by his story we were excited to meet him in his home and see his art although we had to turn our 'star struck' enthusiasm down and he is a quiet man by disposition. After the trail we enjoyed a drink at the Bundeena RSL which has a stunning view back over to Cronulla. It was a privilege to meet these artists personally and to be in their homes to see their works. Sydney is very lucky to have such a cultural walk created for everyone to enjoy, our only regret is that we did not seek out accommodation to enjoy Bundeena for the weekend.
