By the end of February 2026 -- a full year later -- I still never received any physical closing documents from this firm.Looking at the tax card on the county website it still shows the builder as the owner. After closing, they only sent me a perfunctory set of digital documents via email, which contained serious issues: 1. The electronic signatures were not my actual signatures and did not match my real signature at all.I wanted to be at the law firm in person to sign the documents; after all, real estate transactions are not small matters, and I really didn't feel safe if I didn't even know where their office was located. 2. In the documents, each page requires both the buyer's signature and the seller's signature. However, signatures from both parties are missing on every page--either the seller's signature is missing, or the buyer's signature is missing., making the documents incomplete. Over the past year, I repeatedly followed up through my agent, but the issues were never resolved. Worse still, this law firm failed to record the deed and ownership with the county government in a timely manner. As a result, the property is still legally under the previous owner's name today. I have never received a tax bill for this property, and the county tax office confirmed there is no tax record under my name for this address. The firm's excuse was that Pasquotank County government is too slow. However, facts prove this is not true. I purchased a second property in the exact same neighborhood, same county, and processed by the exact same government office just one month later in same year. That closing was handled by Thomas Law Firm, who was professional, responsive, and responsible. They provided me with a complete, organized physical folder with all closing documents, properly recorded the deed promptly Approximately 50 -60 pages of documents, and I received my tax bill on time and paid it without issue. If the county was truly the cause of the year-long delay, the second property should have been delayed as well. The huge difference in service proves the problem was the law firm's failure to perform its basic duties, not the county. I am deeply concerned about potential late fees, penalties, or legal issues caused by this ongoing negligence. I have formally stated in writing that any fines or liabilities resulting from the firm's inaction and failure to fulfill its responsibilities as closing attorneys must be borne by the law firm, not me.

But the amount of time it would require was overwhelming, Eggleston Shredding & Document Center came to the rescue. The timing has to be quick. Drop Off service is only available from 9 - 2 M-F. My visiting son had to work from home on Friday. He would be leaving on Sunday. So I worked till midnight going through the bags to separate the trash from the shredding items so he could get them in the vehicle ready to leave early the next morning. The Shredding & Documents Center is located on N Military Highway. The building doesn't face Military Highway but it's a very visible presence. There is a large drive through at the front of the building with numerous trash cans, similar to our city recycling bins, sitting out front. Walk into a very large lobby with a cashier style glass covered area with a friendly employee behind. She instructed us to take a bin, empty our bags and containers into it, then bring the container inside to pay. If I had known the size of the bin I could have saved the time in separating junk mail. The bin could handle a huge amount of documents. The cost, $45 per bin, was unbelievable. What a tremendous amount of time was saved for such a small cost. The employee explained that the bin would be taken immediately back & dumped into the shredder. A human hand would never touch my documents. Even better, they recycle the shredded paper. She provided me with a Certificate of Destruction & a receipt. We were then on our way. Eggleston is so much more than a source for shredding. They employ individuals with disabilities & provide them the chance to learn skills & gain confidence in their abilities and independence. Improving their quality of life through multiple programs is to be applauded. Among the services they provide to 1,500 individuals at 22 locations are rehabilitation services such as Day Support, Residential Support, Brain Injury Services, Veterans Programs & Community Employment. Business Services include Document Shredding & conversion of paper to digital. They do Commercial Landscaping, prepare donated vehicles for auction, and a number of additional services. A retail Garden Center & Farmers Market is also operated. Their work with the federal government includes commercial laundry, food service, mail room & custodial. What a wonderful mission this non profit begun in 1955 has for the people who need help in becoming employable. Eggleston was a great source for bulk shredding for me. But even better, the shredding of my documents provided learning skills to those who need it the most.

On January 8th at around noon I was contacted by Diane in their office that there had been an emergency and could I come at 2pm on Friday, January 11th. No problem. I called to confirm earlier today since they did not and was told she was in court but would be back for our meeting. I arrived at 2:02 after wandering around for a minute to find their upstairs suite. I was handed some in-depth paperwork to fill out which could've been sent to me and done beforehand like employer address, driver's license and husbands personal info. Annoying. But whatever. I finished and handed it back at 2:05. I had heard the receptionist inform her I was there but "had to fill out paperwork". At 2:17 I asked what was going on. At 2:22 I said I was annoyed and she walked back to check. I informed the receptionist I was annoyed and she said she was talking to her paralegal as she'd been in court all day and just got back. At 2:28 Christy opened the door and said I looked upset. I said yes, I had a few questions to ask her before we got started and she said I could go ahead and ask them. So I asked her if it was standard practice to keep her clients with appointments (that had already been resked by the way) waiting a half an hour, if she was under the impression by what her receptionist had said that I wasn't ready for our meeting and she had a bunch of time, or was what she was discussing with her paralegal something she could have possibly done after our scheduled meeting as my time is also valuable and I had left work early for this? She looked me up and down and said, "I'm going to go ahead and decline representation at this time for both of us." In a snide way. Like how dare I. So rather than answer my questions, apologize for keeping me waiting, or address that she had wasted my time. She chose to do that. I said I thought that was best as well since I didn't like how it was starting off either. And she wished me a good day in a pretty snide tone, and I replied in kind and walked out. I went back in to collect my paperwork after walking to the parking lot with all of my personal information as I don't want them having it. I dislike when someone in a perceived position of authority does this. Wastes my time. Treats me badly. Fails to own mistakes or apologize and can't stand to be called out on it. Like how dare I. And I was going to pay her $100 to be treated like that?!? No way. I've had doctors treat me this way as well in the past and it's not good business practice. Had she apologized for the wait or tried to say yes, what she was discussing with her paralegal was time sensitive but she realized so was mine and let's get started. It could've been smoothed over. Nope. None of that happened. Absolutely unsat. Zero stars if possible. Yikes! I think I dodged a bullet!
