Many places in the area did not provide the type of service I was looking for, or they needed to have a minimum of pieces to be embroidered. I sent an inquiry through Yelp and received a response from them right away letting me know they are able to do it. I loved that they were flexible with when I am able to come in to drop the graduation stole - since I was in a rush, I went in right after work on the same day. They provided me with a quote on Yelp and I was very thrilled with it. When I dropped it off, they were very thorough with what they are able to do with their expertise. I was able to choose the font of the embroidery and the location of where I wanted everything. They were so accommodating despite how little time they had with this and were SO kind about it. After I told them how I wanted everything, they gave me an estimated date and I did not have to leave a deposit. The next day or so, the staff emailed me a draft before having a final approval. I was very pleased with it and gave her the final OK. Less than a week later, I received an email saying it was ready.... way before the estimated date which was even better. Words cannot describe what a great job they have done. I highly recommend coming to them because they really do a fabulous job with accommodation and the embroidery itself. Lynne does beautiful work, and she works with each couple to customize the invitations. When I compared the costs to what online invitations would have been, the difference was minor, especially considering that I was getting something customized for me versus something that a million other brides could purchase. I had so much fun looking over paper and designs with Lynne. She is very personably and easy to work with. I only had one minor complaint. I felt that time frames were never quite what I expected. I would be given an estimate but it seemed to always end up being an extra week+. Nothing got out late, but for my invitations, I really wanted to send them 6 weeks out because everyone had to travel, but they didn't go out until 4 weeks before the event. I definitely would recommend Inviting Company, but be very firm on the timelines you are expecting. While my stress was unfounded as everyone got their invites with enough time to RSVP, had there been better communication regarding the time frame, I would have been more relaxed. The invitations ended up being the thing I was the most stressed over, though, in all honesty, this was very likely my fault for not being assertive enough and laying out my expectations as clearly as possible. In the end, the work was gorgeous, the invitations were unique, and they were exactly what my husband and I wanted.

The sign on the door said open. But the door was locked. So I called the phone number and the owner walked over from next-door. I told him my price range was out at 12:50 for an 8 x 10 rug and he said no problem. He started showing me some absolutely gorgeous handwoven rugs. The owner is very experienced at rug sales. He used to work for the famous Abel rug company which closed a few years ago. After that he worked at the Bloomingdale's rug department. He is planning to close the store soon, and go back to his old job, because sales have been very slow during the pandemic. I chose two rugs and took them home on approval. PS-they only take cash or check, so make arrangements before coming in. Highly recommend getting over to this shop if you're in the market for a rug in the near future.

I got to visit the Headquarters of America's Test Kitchen (squee!), which is located in the…read moregorgeous new Boston Design Center building. While I didn't spend a ton of time exploring the vast facility, what I did get to see was pretty impressive. Not only is it home to a bunch of creative offices, interior decorating showrooms, and of course, ATK, but also several eateries like Flour Bakery, and cute little "food boxes", which are almost like permanent food trucks. Granted, I didn't experience BDC from a "design" perspective, but from what I did see, I was impressed. There's ample parking in the front lot and a parking garage, and the whole building is spacious, clean, and modern. The surrounding neighborhood is a bit "unfinished", but the Design Center is easily accessible via MBTA Silver Line. Again, totally not a "designer", but as a civilian, I liked what I saw!
