Stayed here when biking the GAP from Pittsburgh to DC. Was awesome and breakfast was very filling and pitiful. Totally recommend.

We were also on a bicycle trip on the GAP trail. Stayed 2 nights. The home cooked breakfast Francis made for us was some of the best food we had on the whole trip! She was so kind and generous. The rooms were nice and comfortable--the sheets were so soft! There was a giant soaking tub that I regret not taking advantage of--maybe next time! Definitely want to come back!! read more

Wife and I stayed one night while riding GAP Pittsburgh to Cumberland. Hanna House is a short 2-3 minute ride from trail. Frances is a wonderful hostess. She had fresh baked brownies for guest arrival. Our room had a very creative bathroom built under the staircase- amazing use of space. The B&B is 2 miles outside of town, but Frances will drive you to town for dinner and pick you up when done. Note: not many choices on Tuesday evening. We picked up a bottle of wine and enjoyed the sunset from Frances' front porch. Breakfast was outstanding. Thanks Frances for a good rest and great food for our bike ride! read more

Frances took me and my buddy in on short notice when we were riding the GAP. We were tired and dirty from the days wet and muddy ride, but she graciously welcomed us with brownies and iced tea, and even turned on the hose in the back yard so we could wash the grit off our bikes. Her home is warm, inviting, and a treasure trove of memorabilia, family pictures, and truly unique items (be certain to ask about the shower in the first floor bedroom!). Francis is the most gracious host. She warmly welcomed us with baked brownies and delicious coffees and teas. She chauffeured us to the local restaurant for dinner and waited to take us back to the Hannah House for a very comfortable nights rest. She prepared a breakfast feast that was so delicious including homemade muffins, eggs, home grown tomatoes with fresh basil, homegrown radishes, and fresh fruit. Our stay at Hannah was beyond compare. Francis' hospitality will never be forgotten. read more

My daughter & I spent two nights here while riding on the GAP Trail. A quaint, old farmhouse, 1/4 mile off trail that has semi-modern, yet fully acceptable conveniences along with home-cooked breakfast. The shower is free standing with curtains to control the splash. The fall weekend brought riders that were diversified, friendly and willing to share stories which, to us, was added value. Very clean and run by the sole-owner, Frances who lives on the property. Bedrooms are spacious enough; some have private baths, some do not but that again, was not an issue for us. Be aware it is a 100 yr. old farmhouse so don't expect sound-proof walls, etc. The only downside was Confluence offered limited dining choices during the Covid issue: one up-scale and two eat-ins or carry-outs and close around 7 or 8 p.m. Frances does have a good rapport with the locals who will try to accommodate. Just be willing to be flexible & do make arrangements early. The other drawback is Frances will have to drive & pick you up; it's 2-3 miles into town and you don't want to ride the rural road at night/dusk. With the reasonable rate, it only makes sense to leave her a tip. Cash or check only. This is why the 4-star rating. All-in-all, it's near perfect for those passing thru on the trail: clean linen, warm and cozy atmosphere. read more

What an incredible B&B, and Frances is a sweet engaging hostess! Beautiful historic facility on a huge parcel, beautifully decorated. She made us feel right at home, with home baked goods, (cookies and cobbler) when we arrived. Big spacious first-floor bedroom, comfortable beds for two old guys, Wi-Fi etc. Beautiful and comfortable living room and porch for lounging. The delicious large breakfast was just what we needed for our 65-mile bicycle trip in the morning. You will really enjoy your stay. We wish we could have stayed longer! read more

My husband and I stayed here for one night before our tour of Fallingwater. It was absolutely splendid! Frances was so accommodating and friendly. She had brownies and tea (the most delicious of both that either of us had ever tasted) waiting when we arrived and we had a lovely picnic on her front porch. Her homegrown heirloom tomatoes made me fall in love with what I usually consider an unremarkable fruit. Her made-to-order breakfast energized us for our later walking tour and the rest of the company staying at the house were repeat customers who couldn't stop talking about Frances's food and hospitality. The grounds were idyllic, the bed was comfortable, and the common areas had everything we needed for a fabulous stay. If we ever have a reason to come back to the area, Hanna House will be our first choice for lodging! read more

I recently had the opportunity to stay at the Hanna House Bed and Breakfest in Confluence PA. My brother and I were on a bicycle trip on the Great Allegheney Passage. Francis, the owner operator, met us at the door and directed us on where to wash and stow the bikes. Being on the GAP trail this B&B is very bike friendly. We had several other cyclist join us that evening. Once inside we were greeted with freshly baked pastries and cookies. Excellent chocolate chip cookies, some of the best I've ever had. As we were on our bikes and a couple of miles from town, Francis drove us in to town for dinner, dropping us off at the Smoke House, and arranging to pick us up at the gazebo in the town's Central Park. The facility itself is wonderful. We had a large spacious room, with comfortable beds. Perfect after a long day on the trail. The living area was spacious with a large reading area and comfortable couches and chairs. There was also a TV viewing area. We had plenty of table space for computers, and mobile devices, with a very solid hi speed wifi. Breakfast was absolutely marvelous. Francis went over her extensive menu the night before. A perfect way to see us off on our journey. I hope that in the near future I can go back to The Hanna House with my wife and we can spend a few days in the Confluence area. A really nice little town . Bottom line, Hanna's is one of the nicest places I've stayed in. read more

The house and property are beyond charming and Frances, the hostess, is warm, personable and professional. As mentioned by other reviewers, there were fresh brownies and iced tea for us when we arrived. Hanna House is bicycle friendly for GAP riders. Part of the deal is that Francis drives you to and from town for dinner. She, of course, has all the menus for you to peruse. We enjoyed the quiet and serene setting and slept wonderfully. Francis prepared a wonderful breakfast on our time schedule. She'd taken our breakfast order upon arrival. We hope to ride the GAP again soon and will absolutely stay at Hanna House BnB. read more

After a long day on the Great Alleghency Pass (GAP) trail, the Hanna House B&B was a welcome reprise of hominess and warmth. This was my second overnight on my solo week-long bicycle trip from Pittsburgh to my home in Silver Spring MD (outside of Washington DC). I had made the reservation with Fran, the B&B owner, less than a week earlier. When I got to the nearby town of Confluence on Wednesday afternoon, 9/18/13. I called and said that I would like to stop for pizza before getting to the B&B. Fran recommended Riverside Pizza - incidentally the only restraurant in town open that late in the season. After tanking up on the pizza and taking leftovers, I headed 2 miles down the road to the Hanna House. As Fran had a meeting that night I was greeted by Linda, another guest, and invited to share in some delicious chocolate cake Fran had made for us and tea of our choice. A note from Fran told me the name of the room I was assigned. I also had a chance to meet other guests and later Fran herself. The room was very comfortable, but not too frilly like too many B&Bs. The shared bathroom was very large with Fran's old dog quietly napping in the center. The warm shower was perfect. The following morning we were treated to wonderful blueberry pancakes and other delightful offereings. Fran was a wonderful host - very generous - and the Hanna House was just what I needed and a wonderful place to stay. read more

My husband and I stayed at Hanna House for a 3 night getaway while we cycled the GAP and enjoyed the Fall colors. This was the best bed and breakfast stay. we've ever had. Frances Thompson, the owner, is just lovely, and she made us feel right at home. Frances had fresh apple cake waiting for us every afternoon. And she made delicious and filling breakfasts "to order" each morning. Whenever possible, Frances incorporated fresh fruits and vegetables from her own gardens into the meals. The first floor of the Hanna House is an open living area with cozy couches and lounge chairs. We felt comfortable quietly reading or joining fellow guests in conversation. The large windows look out onto Frances' farm and provide a beautiful vista. Our bedroom was on the second floor. It was charming and decorated with antiques. The beds were comfortable and we slept well. We shared a bathroom with two other rooms. This arrangement worked fine. The single bathroom is enormous but still cozy with contemporary fixtures and antique decorations. The guests were considerate of each other and I never felt rushed in the bathroom or that I had to wait long for it. Plus, Frances provided a soft, plush robe for trips back and forth to the bathroom. A very nice touch! Frances shared information with us about the local businesses and communities. She has a lot of information about places to visit and restaurants to go to, also. We felt very much cared for at Hanna House and look forward to a future visit. read more

Very nice old farmhouse, and a well run B&B. No AC, which might be a problem for some at some times of year, but we visited on a lovely cool night, and the air was wonderful... plus, it's kind of nice to not have cold air blowing all the time. Owner really knows what she is doing, and is a gracious host. Breakfast is standards on offer, but all well prepared. read more

My GAP trail biking partner and I were seeking refuge from a coming storm when we cycled up to to this great B&B. It was better than either of us could have imagined. Frances was an amazing host -- offering brownies and iced tea upon our arrival, and cooking an amazing breakfast the following morning. The accommodations were clean, comfortable, and affordable (we had the two twin-bed room on the 3rd floor). Frances and her other guests were as friendly as could be. Though we didn't have the chance to explore the grounds, the three-story house sits on a large and beautiful farm, and there's storage for bikes in a stand-alone shed at the end of the driveway. Our only complaint was that, seeing as the house is a few blocks away from the trail, a few more well-placed signs leading the way wouldn't have hurt. read more

The accommodation options in the area are limited. I searched high and low for a suitable place to stay and most of the options seemed seedy or required a two-night minimum. The Hanna House seemed to be the most suitable place for three ladies to stay. When we arrived on a Friday afternoon, the house was empty but it was obvious where our rooms were located and Frances, the B&B owner, left us some forms to fill out for our following morning's breakfast selections. It was interesting to have the run of the place to explore before we headed out for our evening plans. The house has three levels with one room on the first floor next to the kitchen, two rooms on the second floor and two rooms on the third floor. The stairs to the third floor were quite steep. Each floor has a shared bathroom besides the first floor room, which has a private bath (sunken Jacuzzi with showerhead) and also a separate "tree shower" (a tree trunk was planted in and around the shower). No dilly dallying in the shower though, because the hot water does not last very long. Upon our return from our evening trip to Falling Water, the house was lit up with cute twinkle lights which helped us find our way. We were also greeted by two lovely and friendly barn cats. Everyone was already asleep and it was difficult to maintain the peace while we made our way to our rooms. As you may know in Bed & Breakfasts, the quarters are close, and every noise carries. The house had heated up nicely while we were away; it had been a bit cold/drafty upon our arrival. Frances left us some space heaters just in case and a friendly note on our door. All three of us had a bit of a hard time sleeping mostly because there were some early risers in the house. If you are a light sleeper, I highly suggest taking a room at the back of the house. Hanna House is situated on a road where traffic speeds are around 55 mph so if you aren't used to street traffic, you may get restless.You can always bring earplugs and/or a white noise machine. In the morning, Frances made us a nice breakfast. We all had fresh fruit, I had toast and my one friend had a made- to-order omelet with fresh grown, well, everything. Frances is really into sustainable food and runs her own farm (she actually had the farm before she turned the house into a B&B). My other friend had the French toast. We met a couple at breakfast and they were the only others staying at the house. We really enjoyed Frances. Her stories will live us/you forever. This place is a little further out than some, but it's not that out of the way. In fact, Hanna House is on the way to both Falling Water and/or Ohiopyle; you literally pass the front door in route. The drive to and from Falling Water and Ohiopyle is scenic and I found the whole experience to be adventurous. If I ever return here, I will definitely stay at the Hanna House again. read more
