It is so cozy you really don't want to leave. There are drinks at the front and the staff are amazing! The female as well as the tall gentle man were great! Wish we got names. Walls are a bit thin but besides that get you a room and watch tv all day in their fluffy beds. Perfect place to relax! Will be back!

Somehow our raft always ended up being the safety boat. Rafts were capsizing all over the place; we never flipped, but we did have to fish a lot of people out of the river. I was impressed by the meal that was served after we got back to the shop. Chicken salad, boiled shrimp with old bay, cheeses, veggies and a tray of cookies baked by one of their "regulars". The family atmosphere and spirit of camaraderie between the guides was infectious. Everyone was super friendly; it was a wonderful way to spend a Saturday.

Regular price of $80 seems a bit steep for this place but I understand that you're in a sort of "resort" town so... Most of the courses around here are actually rather expensive. In fact, this might even be the cheapest one! The layout is certainly unique. The idea of having six part 5s and six part 3s and six part 4s might sound somewhat interesting but... In the end, I kind of found it annoying. (Call me a purist, I guess?) By far, the worst thing is the pace of play. We had a couple groups ahead of us on the front nine that were ridiculously slow. The starter kept sending out twosomes and it just back things up. Two groups behind me actually quit before getting to number nine... One of them quit on whole number five. It was better on the back nine when the groups in front of us quit. The starter didn't seem to really know what he was doing. And there were no Rangers. I understand that rangers can be annoying... But an almost three hour 9 is ridiculous. Another thing that's really worth noting... The hills are somewhat significant, and the carts are legitimately not great with their brakes. Like... Seriously not good. And somewhat surprisingly the management seems to be aware of this. They even gave me a heads up. What's even weirder, is that the newer carts actually seem to be WORSE! Coming down the cartpath after green on hole #five, the pro actually warned me to be careful.... And I honestly was trying to be incredibly careful! And I STILL almost flipped the cart! The brakes just give out! It's like you have to pump them or something... But it wasn't just there... Anytime you were going down a hill on the course, there was no guarantee your car could stop. That's insanity! So the course was in good enough shape... And the greens were actually in really surprisingly good shape for the most part... ((though the greens on the back nine are surprisingly small)) ... my biggest problem was the golf carts... Just straight up unsafe. ((Legitimately... If you're healthy enough to walk the course... Do yourself a huge favor and walk it. It's much safer!))

Had a great time today. I called in the morning and was able to get into a group of four others…read moregoing out at 2pm for a one hour trail ride. The facility is lovely and very clean. I arrived 15 min early and hung out until everyone had arrived, using the time to browse, ask questions, meet the horses, and pet the two dogs that were lazing about in the barn. Once we were paired with a horse and helped up into the saddles, they gave us a brief speech about how to control the horses and what to expect on the ride. The horses were all very sedate and happy to play follow the leader with very little input from us. The ride took us mostly through open fields, but also through some light woods and along the side of woods. There was a good amount of elevation change, but it was nothing difficult and it provided some lovely views of the surrounding lands. Our guide frequently asked how we were all doing, kept a keen eye on the group, pausing to allow a lagging horse to catch up from time to time, and stopped at the midpoint to walk through the group making sure we were still all okay and our horses and saddles were good. When we got back, staff members came out and helped us off the horses and led them off to drink. It was a lovely experience. Very sedate and easy, though I guarantee I'll feel that in my thighs tomorrow. LOL. Going into it, I was a bit worried that I'd be bored. Today's digital age has shrunk my attention span and I knew we'd be going walking pace in a line. But at no point did I want to pull out my phone and surf social media or read a book. I just enjoyed the bouncing jolting sway of the horse, the scenery, the lovely weather, and the chit chat around me. I would totally do this again. The two women who helped us and guided our trail ride were great. They know all the horses personalities and were able to pair us up with a horse suitable for our riding abilities (beginners). You can tell the horses are well loved and taken care of. The trail we took gave us nice views and the horses were all well behaved. This is a small family owned business that we'd love to visit again when in the area.

The only thing I wished for were a couple of chairs in the room so we could put our shoes on, and more seating area on the upper deck would also be nice. The inn only offers continental breakfast and access to local places to eat were sparse, but we made do. The owners also have other properties in town, like the campground and the local boat livery for trips on the River. Nearby, you have access to trails, Cathedral State Park, and Blackwater Falls State Park, Canaan and Snowshoe ski. All are reasonably close by. The price was reasonable as well. It's not one of the big fancy chain hotels, so if you expect that, you will be disappointed, but if small-town peace and quiet and comfort in a historic location is for you, I recommend the River Lodge Inn. The charming inn and restaurant are framed by a beautiful garden that doesn't just stop at the front as a facade but carries on around the side and back. It is the real deal. Charming in so many ways. The inside was the cleanest restaurant I have ever been in. The walls, floorboards, tables and chairs had all been wiped and cleaned. I know most people do not look at these things but I do and enjoy when these details are tended to and kept up. Gift shop is equally as lovely and fun. Great food!
