We originally toured almost 8 different daycares throughout the city (both in-home and facility run) and landed on Sunshine because it met many of our criterias: - affordable (not the cheapest but definitely didn't bankrupt us) - great reviews - clean and well organized home - most importantly, the people running it were amazing I sent first child at around 5 months and never truly worried about her safety or health. Both Derek and Fun were so wonderful and took care of my daughter that I knew she was in good hands. Then the pandemic hit. They had to shutdown during this time and even when some restrictions were lifted they chose to stay closed for a little longer to make sure they were truly ready and safe. We were one of the only families to come back to this location and I was worried about my daughter being alone. Luckily 2 other families joined (and we became a 'pod'- remember those?). During peak pandemic times, Derek, Fun, and (then later) Shelly became my kids' second family. I'm pretty certain at some points my kids loved Funfun and Shelly more than me (can't blame them). When I had my 2nd I had no doubts and popped him there as well. Both of my kids have now outgrown/left but both still think fondly and miss Fun/Shelly. Also, I want to give Sunshine credit for helping teach my kids to read/write at an early age. Both of my kids could both sound out and read by the time they were 3! We love Sunshine and am grateful for all they've done for my kids during those early years.

Our older daughter started here at just 16 months and has had a wonderful experience over the past two years. She had vomited a couple times, out of fear and her adjusting to a new environment. They said that she wasn't "ready for daycare." But we knew she just needed some TLC. In a scramble, we talked to another daycare, who wanted a trial period for a week before assuring they could care for our daughter. We then got in contact with Elham -- who asked us lot of questions with an open-minded spirit and heart, and looked for ways to make our daughter comfortable and adjust (at least at the beginning) to her needs. She then welcomed our daughter with open arms, no trial required. By week 2, she was totally adjusted. Since then, we've seen our daughter blossom under Elham's care. She's well fed, cared for, and learning so many words. She knows her friend's names well as Elham has clearly created such a nourishing and happy place for the kiddos. At pickup, Elham recaps each day and we make a plan on how to be consistent at home and at daycare -- all through the lens of the development of our daughter. Meredith and her team created a lovely environment and skillfully handled her first transition and by her third day I asked how her day was and my daughter replied, absolutely outstanding! Which kind of blew me away since she is otherwise not that enthusiastic about anything but ice cream. They have done some interesting projects but also appear to just enjoy being kids in the outdoors. She has also explained how to identify poison ivy to me, another great summer skill. They go on little daily hikes too so she is coming home pleasantly tired. We were nervous to start daycare because our daughter wasn't used to anyone other than mom, dad, and grandma. Jen's daycare was recommended to us by a friend of ours in the neighborhood, and as soon as we went on a tour, we knew this was the right choice. I had done other tours and nothing felt right. Our daughter is very slow to warm up to others, but even on the initial tour, she started exploring and playing with toys in the Jen's space. Jen was so warm and gentle to our daughter which helped us all feel comfortable. At the time, there was only one day available but we were so happy with Jen, that we took the slot and now our daughter goes 4 days a week and barely even says goodbye at drop off! She has made such sweet friends there and just loves Jen so much. She comes home and talks all about her day. Sometimes before bed, she will randomly say "I love Jen." I don't know how Jen does it, but our daughter naps and eats like a champ at daycare, whereas at home, both are a struggle - hence why we joke about needing Jen on the weekends ;-) She also worked with us during potty training and made that transition really seamless. Jen is extremely attentive to the children and is also very responsive in communication. I've heard from friends that their daycare lacks communication, but Jen always gets right back to me and is very thoughtful in her responses via email if anything comes up. She has always been open to helping us through life transitions and understands how these things can affect children. She is incredibly accommodating, which is really important when it comes to childcare, and she really understands individual needs. Overall, sending our daughter to Jen's was the best decision! She now has friends to play with, gets to play outside in the backyard, does art, reading, hula hooping, bubbles, singing and more. Jen has such a gentle nature with the children and it feels like she was truly made for this. We have even talked to several families in the neighborhood with older kids that previously attended Jen's, and they said that it never gets better than her - that's how high the bar is! The emotional and physical safety of all the kids is always a priority for Jen and she will promptly reach out if something happens. Family-size daycare also means a relatively small group of children so you know that your child's basic needs are met and that the pace of the day is perfectly adapted to their stage of development. Since then, my daughter attended their daycare/preschool and now my 11 month old son just joined them as they decided to re-expand their license with infants. We couldn't have been luckier meeting Angelina, Vivi and her wonderful family. Angelina has been in business for 40+ years and she and her daughter Vivianne have cared for our kids as if they were their own. I met Vivi during the pandemic when we were looking for childcare after ours had abruptly closed due to the pandemic. She welcomed us with open arms. Their space for the kids is clean, organized and every day they have play-based and social-emotional activities to engage the kids and teach them life skills. They do artwork regularly that teaches them about the seasons, they learn how to write the letters of the alphabet and focus on 3-4 letters a month with creative art projects, they learn spanish, they play outside and inside, they go on nature walks in Golden Gate Park, they bring in a dance teacher for dance class 1x/week. But they are much more than the activities they provide. They are loving caregivers and we consider them as part of our family. They help kids come into their own, they teach them how to be good, caring, compassionate children. They teach them how to express themselves and problem solve. And they are loving above all. I've gotten wonderful support and guidance from them as a parent navigating motherhood. They've helped me through potty training, teething, transitional periods, sleep challenges, etc. I cannot recommend them enough and my kids will remember them as being instrumental in their young lives. Although she was very shy at first, she quickly bonded with her teacher, Vivi, and grew to feel completely safe, comfortable, and trusting in her care. She loves going to preschool and genuinely enjoys learning and socializing with her classmates. Shortly after she started, I was happy with her progress--she learned the alphabet through interactive play, acting out an alligator for "A," a bear for "B," and so on. Some of her art projects are detailed and creative, and she loves bringing her school activities home, from demonstrating yoga poses and building with materials. They also go on weekly field trips for a change of pace. Vivi is so attuned to my granddaughter's shyness, gently encouraging her to speak up and participate in class.
