I have applied for and received 4 patents in the wind/renewable energy field, using Mr. Hanson as my attorney. Dealing with the U.S. Patent Office is a particularly exhausting, aggravating and maddening process, and one often wonders if the patent examiner even bothered to read the application before rejecting it outright (all of my patents were rejected initially - called an Office Action). This is just a part of process - these techno/bureaucrats are paid to "Just Say No!". I do all of my own patent drawings, and most importantly, take personal responsibility for a thorough patent search. This process may take weeks or even months, applying different codes, keys and phrases in the search criteria to ensure that no leaf is left unturned. It is a skill that must be learned, but can enable a far more comprehensive search when done by the inventor personally. This frequently leads to the gut-wrenching discovery of a too-similar patent in the wee hours of the morning. But only YOU understand your idea at the level required to recognize potential show-stoppers. So my advice to anyone engaging an attorney for a patent (or any other endeavor for that matter) is to take full responsibility for the details yourself. Use the attorney to execute the application, but never relinquish responsibility for the details to anyone, even your attorney. And get your ducks lined up beforehand to ensure the process will be a success before you spend your first dime getting anyone else involved. read more

I used the Hanson Law Corp. for my patent search, as I wanted the best possible search using his professional expertise. It was more expensive, but I did not want to risk missing anything that would cause a problem later. His search found nothing like my device, making it a good candidate for a patent. I then paid him $6000. to pursue the patent. When the reply came back, they found two patents missing from my search that closely resembled my device, therefore, denying a patent and sighting several clerical errors in my application. I did not expect clerical errors from an experienced professional . They also asked for a repair of the errors and clarification as to how my device differed from the two they found. Mr. Hanson then charged me an additional $1700. to reply, essentially charging me to correct his own errors. Since the missing patents were so close to mine, the patent was again denied. It is hard now not to be suspicious of the two missing patents. My wife questioned why he didn't have an office and always met me at a restaurant. In our last conversation, Mr. Hanson suggested I try a different attorney. My advice to anyone considering using Mr. Hanson, is now to do exactly that, use a different attorney. read more

Hi, this is my second review I have ever written. My first review was regarding my eye doctor, he's fantastic. But I never imagined I'd be writing a review about an attorney, certainly not a good review.. Ha ha I begin working with Mr. Hansen back in 2012. He prepared my provisional patent application. He was professional and very detail oriented. Our time working together was relatively brief, but the work he did for me was quite impressive. I contacted Mr. Hansen again last year, we have been working together ever since. I don't know much about lawyers but I do know a lot about service. I guess I was a little surprised when he would return my calls and e-mails so quickly. He always makes himself available this seems to be on top of all the little details.
