However, Darci quickly gained my trust and it was such a relief to know a night was coming up in our week where I may actually be able to just worry about my own needs for a few hours and have someone else caring for my child. She wore a mask around our baby which was important to me (she offered this independently). She always showed up on time. I appreciated that she could wash bottle/pump parts while baby slept and she did some baby laundry too. Working with an individual over a large doula business meant we were able to customize the number of shifts we wanted and the number of hours of each shift. Most companies will require 9 or 10 hours at a time, but Darci helped us customize a schedule of 7 hour shifts which worked better for our needs and budget. She will show you baby exercises or tricks to help with digestion and gas. She will also take notes for you on when baby eats/sleeps/gets changed etc if you want to track that in any of the baby apps or just see what the night looked like. The last thing on my mind when I went to the hospital was my placenta encapsulation, but it was all automatically handled. I texted Katy to let her know I was in labor, and everything else was handled from there. She arranged with my doula to have my placenta picked up within an hour after my delivery, and then my pills were delivered to my hospital room right before I was leaving. I was beyond impressed with her level of attention and just plain concern for making everything SO easy for me. I highly recommend placenta encapsulation. I believe it has so many awesome benefits--my milk came in on day 3, my mood has been mostly stable (besides crying from insane amounts of happiness), and I feel like this recovery will also be easier. The Best Doula and Photographer -- Natalie Made My VBAC Dream Come True!…read more I cannot say enough about Natalie -- she was truly the reason my VBAC was such a success. She stayed by my side for over 24 hours, never once losing patience or energy. She guided me through every contraction, changed my position constantly, and did everything possible to help me stay strong and focused. Her calm, knowledgeable presence gave me confidence when I doubted myself, and I'll forever be grateful for her support and expertise. On top of being an incredible doula, Natalie is also an amazing newborn photographer. She came to our home just days after the birth and spent extra time making sure every shot was perfect -- never rushing, always so gentle with our baby. She went above and beyond by giving us additional photos and getting them back to us in only a few days. The images are absolutely stunning and capture this precious time so beautifully. I'll try to help with both by sharing our story below. We planned a physiologic birth at a birth center, hoping to avoid a C-section for our first baby. Natalie was tremendously helpful in getting us prepared. When mama went into labor, Natalie was ready to rock, and we felt confident because of the work we'd done together before the big day when contractions started. Eventually, we went to the birth center. But God had a different plan. After a full day of effort and some complications, we ended up transferring to the hospital. The two environments couldn't have been more different, but Natalie was our one constant. She supported us physically, emotionally, and even medically in ways we couldn't have imagined. Natalie impressed me with her clinical awareness. As a former RN, she picked up on things the hospital nurses missed, helped mama with positioning to move the baby down, and kept us both calm and centered through every twist and turn. As the dad, her emotional support is something I truly can't put a dollar value on. I found myself incredibly relieved that she was there throughout the whole journey. After the birth, my partner told me how thankful she was that we had hired Natalie and said, "I don't know how we would have gotten through it all without her." She was truly the angel we needed. A doula is worth it. If you're going to choose one, you should strongly consider Natalie.
