They didn't have running water (due to frigid temperatures) and the wi-fi was substandard. It was close to the showers (and restrooms) which helped. The second time we were in the overnight sites - miles from everything!! The distance was ridiculous, especially from the showers, but also from the Resort where my mom was. We asked to be closer and were told we couldn't because during the season we were in the overnight section but it made NO sense!! Especially given our need to be near the resort... Otherwise, the site is gorgeous with concrete pads and clean showers.

When we pulled up, there was only one RV near 15 empty RV spaces and us. Behind our spot, the mighty Missouri River which at this point was behind a dam and a mile wide. Our space had hookups intended for a RV to back-in, but I was not going to a miss an opportunity to sit and look out at the windshield. This campground did not have water or sewer, only electric, which is odd but for two days, it would not be a problem. Voilà, campsite setup! I loved this campground and this location. I would have feel comfortable staying here for two weeks, settling into a slower pace, with a beautiful view. Perhaps in the future, we will stop here for another stay. Would I recommend this park? Absolutely. Would we come back? Absolutely, I am trying to figure out a way to pass through this part of South Dakota again. Informational: We travel in a 36' Class A RV.

There are 15 spaces with 30 and 50 amp hookups though there is no water. A dump station is available at the south end of the park. Stay up to 72 hours (three days) though the spaces are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. I did bring my lunch here to one of the picnic tables to dine al fresco and enjoy some outside. The beds were comfortable and the rooms had a mini fridge and microwave. The manager was a really nice lady who did everything she could to make sure our stay was enjoyable. She lives on the property and is very helpful. She did say that the company had just been purchased the motel from a family by a major corporation. The rooms are fixing to get a hotel industrial upgrade. I hope this means the price stays cheap!

We had trouble finding either a park that fit our 43 ft class A or no spots due to a few days before the 4th of July. We stayed ten days, got a 10% military discount which is the same as the Good Sams. The sites are all long so you don't need to double park and there's ample room between neighbors. The office, laundry, bathrooms and grounds are clean. We did not use the dog wash but several people did and said they were glad it was there. (We have a cat) We visited Chamberlain about 45 minutes West. It has a cute town to shop, eat or talk to the locals. Friday nights there's live outdoor entertainment and food trucks. Mitchell is a half hour East where there's a Walmart and a local grocery store. Kimball is about 20 minutes West with a tiny town, friendly locals and a great Vet at Countryside Veterinarian. We took our cat for his annual rabies shot and she only charged for the shot not an office visit too. Managers Mary and Steve are hospitable, and always available. They work hard keeping everyone as happy as possible! Great customer service! We definitely would go back if we are on I90 at White Lake.

A place to spend the night, but that's about it…read more Generally, KOA Campgrounds are all pretty homogeneous, they all look pretty similar. They have similar amenities and such. However, I feel like this location does not meet the standards of a KOA. To be fair to the owners though, the location suffered major flooding last year. Looking at pictures online, it was far better before the flood, but the owners seem to be doing all they can to make the place fully operational again. Because of Covid guidelines, the laundry room was closed, but this is no fault of the facility. Also, when the reservation was made, the employee warned us that that got lots of rain the night before and the place was soaked, so this would explain all of the standing water. The sites themselves were fine. They were fairly spacious pull throughs that were almost perfectly level. Standard 20/30/50 amps were available. The place has a slight bug problem, probably due to its low elevation in respect to the surroundings. However, we were told that the camp store closed at 8, but it actually closed at 7, so that's a shame. Where this KOA loses stars is the fact that a campsite was over $60 a night. This is unacceptable given the condition, but once again, I understand that the owners likely need revenue to rebuild. Overall, this is adequate for an overnight stay. However, I suggest going elsewhere if you value scenery and amenities.

The Fort Pierre National Grassland is located in the center of South Dakota, north of I-90 and is a…read moremassive 116,000 acre national park. I think it's the largest park I have ever reviewed. The address for this "business" is for the Park Ranger district office in Fort Pierre, where you can pick up a map (a must) and get some general information about the parkland. Its shrubby hillsides are home to whitetail and mule deer, while the hundreds of earthen dams provide lush habitat for waterfowl, shorebirds, and fish. Given the right amount of precipitation and sunlight, the spring and summer months of the central South Dakota prairie come alive with wildflowers of different shapes, colors, and sizes. As the spring progresses into summer, native grasses create just as stunning a display as the flowers. I had the opportunity to view the grassland from US-83 between Vivian and Pierre. It's 35 miles and it's just so amazingly peaceful. I pulled off the road a couple of times just to stop and listen to ... nothing. Just the sounds of the wind in the grass and the quiet ticking of a cooling engine. I'm not a camper or a boondocker - I need Internet for work - but I can definitely understand people who will take a tent and a backpack and a full bottle of bug spray and just hike into nowhere.
