    Spicy Beef Noodle Soup
    Melinda H.

Such a great little place that reminds me of Cheers!! When we were paying the owner asked where we were from and I told him KC. He said no wonder. I was like what heck? Do we stand out or something?? So I asked.... He said it was bc they had been there for four years and we had never been in! That's impressive! The owner was super nice, bubbly guy and apparently very aware of his customers! We each had a spring roll and then split the spicy beef noodle soup. Everything came out fast and super hot. The spring rolls were only 99¢, but I will say they were pretty small. The soup was a huge piping hot bowl that was really great. The restaurant was small, but we didn't have any trouble finding a seat. The only thing I'd ding them for was the lid of the fish sauce was dirty. That's one of those things that bothers me. It's just that little extra attention to cleanliness that I appreciate.

This place is a little hidden local only gem. Really only place to eat on 4th near this area. All the flavors of everything were great. The salt and pepper shrimp was actually shockingly good. It's owned by a husband and wife and feels like a very home style place. It's not fancy and my ocd from some of the clutter in the kitchen area might drive me a little crazy, but it feels like you're eating out, but still at someone's house. In the end the food was all incredible and the service is super friendly. The only downside is the crab Rangoon is listed not crab Rangoon. There is no crab it. BUT..... that being said, they were still the best wonton cheese balls I've had anywhere near here. So it's ok. Just don't expect the crab meat or crab flavor inside really.

Phenomenal! Bite size little purses of sweet cream cheese, crab and green onion. So worth it!

This place deserves more attention here on Yelp. We were in Pittsburg for a local activity and needed a late lunch. I agree with another review I read, eating at Happy Family is like sitting in their kitchen and being fed amazing Asian food. We knew phô was a must try and it didn't fail to impress. Delicious and comforting. The crab Rangoon is the absolute best I've ever had and I'm not exaggerating. They are perfectly bite sized, not the big chunky kind you find on the average buffet. The egg rolls were hot and fresh, sooooo good. Finally, the couple running Happy Family are just that. Kind and welcoming. They never made us feel rushed to leave. The way a restaurant should be run. A true gem!

Spicy Pho, has beef, pork, and ham.

The owners are the greatest, and the food is even better. Always cooked to order and hot. The dry chicken is a must try!

Ordered to go. Food was ready on-time. Soup was piping hot - even after driving back to my hotel. General's chicken was very good too.

My friends also got the the French onion soup which smelled amazing. The sandwiches were definitely filling. I wish I was able to save some of it but it was so good and I was so hungry that I annihilated the sandwich. The staff here were so warm and welcoming and made sure that we were taken care of. We went during lunch time and it was extremely busy. I mean they had just opened up and there was already a line of people waiting to get in. They have a white dressing which they are known for and give you club crackers to go along with it. So you put the white dressing onto the cracker and you eat it just like that. You could add it to the sandwiches but most were eating it with the crackers. It was very addicting that I had to stop myself so I could save space for my sandwich. Don't sleep on this cafe. And be prepared for a wait as they are very popular.

We started out with two appetizers, Fried Ravioli & Popcorn Shrimp Basket. To be honest the Fried Ravioli wasn't worth ordering. Pretty much flavorless! The menu read stuffed with cheese & jalapenos. I don't think either existed in the ravioli. Had great potential but just didn't deliver. The Popcorn Shrimp was a step up and we're actually pretty good. The dipping sauce was rather strange - it seemed to be a spicy teriyaki which was okay just not a dipping sauce I expected. Maybe a choice of sauces would be a better option. Four of the 5 choose burgers and I think everyone truly enjoyed their choice. I chose the KC Special - pastrami burnt ends, w/two 1/4 lb burgers with cheese and a side of Freedom Fries. Two others chose the Heavenly Bacon and the last picked the Mushroom Burger. I think it's fair to say everyone enjoyed their burger. The lone dissenter felt the need to be on the healthier side and he went with the salmon. He described it as dry and over cooked. Luckily he choose the French Onion soup as a starter and he said it was one of the best soups he's had! Another one in the group also ordered the same and he said it was delicious. I'm mad at myself for not ordering because that is one of my favorites and can't believe I actually passed on it! Our server was GG and she was very pleasant and she was good at checking in on us to make sure we were doing okay. We enjoyed her waiting on us for our lunch meal. If we ever make our way to Pittsburg again I think I would definitely try this place again and look at trying other items on the menu!

I don't mind spicy, if I'm feeling froggy I will ask for "Thai hot", but I wasn't feeling it tonight so I asked for 3 out of five stars. What I got was unpleasantly spicy with zero flavor - just heat, didn't even have any flavor of coconut milk. I make Thai curries regularly (it isn't hard - heat coconut oil, fry the curry paste, add meat, vegetables, coconut milk, sugar, fish sauce, basil leaves and fresh lime). It's always a fight with the family over the spice level, because more curry paste means more flavor. What I got from Typhoon was not made with curry paste (if it was it would have had the flavor of Thai curry...) but it was NOT Thai curry. Maybe bad Chinese food pretending to be Thai? My wife had the Tom Yum Gai (soup). Very little chicken and worse flavor. She had diarrhea with an hour and a half. As a former restaurant owner I hate giving a bad review because I know how hard you work and how demoralizing it can be when you get a bad review from an, often as not, deranged customer having a bad day. But man this meal should be a crime. We ended up eating half and throwing out the rest. The server was pleasant, seemed like a nice kid.

The woman at the window it was the end of her shift and like I said she did not put my order in correctly so I had ordered spicy Mongolian beef I got plain Mongolian beef I ordered Chicken Fried rice, I got rice that looked like it had been burnt on the grill no little vegetables like peas and carrots or green onions in it I didn't see any eggs in it it looked like they took some chopped up chicken put some plain rice on the grill and it turned it brown that's what I got for chicken fried rice it's the worst I've ever had in any Chinese restaurant that I have ever been to. And as far as the Mongolian beef order went he got a bunch of rice it was supposed to be fried rice with his spicy Mongolian beef which as I stated previously was not spicy at all his rice was clumped together with chunks of plain white rice in it apparently they don't know what stir fried rice is. For $20 it was not worth $5 and then when I called to make a complaint about the food they told me that I had to bring all the food back in there to them and they could give me an order of Mongolian beef with a cup of spicy sauce to go on it. And they could replace the order with more fresh food. If the first order of food wasn't any good why, would I want to eat another order of your food? Customer service as far as getting a refund or resolving the issue was not there the little girl working at the counter had to go back and be the go between between me and the manager why could I not speak to the manager? I will never ever ever eat at Lotus Express again, and I will tell everyone that I know not to eat there. And as some people may know word of mouth about a restaurant food will make you or break you so that I hope that this post goes really wide and then I'm going to put pictures on here of the crappy food that they gave us. Do not eat at this Chinese restaurant that is my review. So you want to know what could improve? You can improve the management you can improve the food and you can improve the customer service mainly the food and how they handle complaints from customers.
