    Spicy Beef Noodle Soup
    Melinda H.

Such a great little place that reminds me of Cheers!! When we were paying the owner asked where we were from and I told him KC. He said no wonder. I was like what heck? Do we stand out or something?? So I asked.... He said it was bc they had been there for four years and we had never been in! That's impressive! The owner was super nice, bubbly guy and apparently very aware of his customers! We each had a spring roll and then split the spicy beef noodle soup. Everything came out fast and super hot. The spring rolls were only 99¢, but I will say they were pretty small. The soup was a huge piping hot bowl that was really great. The restaurant was small, but we didn't have any trouble finding a seat. The only thing I'd ding them for was the lid of the fish sauce was dirty. That's one of those things that bothers me. It's just that little extra attention to cleanliness that I appreciate.

This place is a little hidden local only gem. Really only place to eat on 4th near this area. All the flavors of everything were great. The salt and pepper shrimp was actually shockingly good. It's owned by a husband and wife and feels like a very home style place. It's not fancy and my ocd from some of the clutter in the kitchen area might drive me a little crazy, but it feels like you're eating out, but still at someone's house. In the end the food was all incredible and the service is super friendly. The only downside is the crab Rangoon is listed not crab Rangoon. There is no crab it. BUT..... that being said, they were still the best wonton cheese balls I've had anywhere near here. So it's ok. Just don't expect the crab meat or crab flavor inside really.

Phenomenal! Bite size little purses of sweet cream cheese, crab and green onion. So worth it!

This place deserves more attention here on Yelp. We were in Pittsburg for a local activity and needed a late lunch. I agree with another review I read, eating at Happy Family is like sitting in their kitchen and being fed amazing Asian food. We knew phô was a must try and it didn't fail to impress. Delicious and comforting. The crab Rangoon is the absolute best I've ever had and I'm not exaggerating. They are perfectly bite sized, not the big chunky kind you find on the average buffet. The egg rolls were hot and fresh, sooooo good. Finally, the couple running Happy Family are just that. Kind and welcoming. They never made us feel rushed to leave. The way a restaurant should be run. A true gem!

Spicy Pho, has beef, pork, and ham.

The owners are the greatest, and the food is even better. Always cooked to order and hot. The dry chicken is a must try!

Ordered to go. Food was ready on-time. Soup was piping hot - even after driving back to my hotel. General's chicken was very good too.

Thai Time was one of the only places that wasn't fast food that was open around 9 PM. The restaurant is very small and I think most people pick up takeout from the drive-thru (Most Thai places in California are sit-down, so experiencing drive-thru Thai was very novel to me), but we dined in. We ordered a peanut-sauce chicken that came with steamed veggies and rice (Rama chicken), as well as a Singapore-style curry noodle with stir-fried celery, pepper, and carrots (Lion City noodles). They were alright--nothing really to write home about, but something that my body appreciated after days of brisket and burnt ends (lol). The chicken dish would have been extremely bland without the peanut sauce, and the curry vermicelli was on the salty side. For fast food Thai, our dinner wasn't cheap, either. I think we paid around $37-40 (including tip) for two dishes. I'm still giving this place a 4/5 because service was fast and friendly, the food was okay, and I always like to support local Asian businesses.

Like many restaurants in Joplin, the outside is often nothing to get excited about and as someone who works in graphic design and advertising I'm heavily influenced by presentation and packaging. Don't judge this book by the cover! The inside looks really cute, upscale and trendy with an Asian vibe but not over the top or kitschy. This is a palce I would be happy bringing clients, friends or a date night dinner. The inside would fit right in San Francisco, LA or Chicago. The menu is shorter but still has plenty of choices. I highly recommend trying the soups as they serve several traditional Thai and Vietnamese along with the typical Chinese-American soups. My wife had a beef fried rice dish and I had the beef and meatball Pho. Sort of my starter test, if they do well on the Pho I will come back and try them again. The Pho was simpler than others I've had but still very good. I thought it was a bit mild, not in a spicy hot way, but in seasoning. If your looking for a comforting warm broth on a cold day this would hit the spot. Adding a little balck sauce (always on the table) was just enough added flavor. However I felt the Pho needed more vegetables; carrots, cabbage, bok choy, onion etc. It may just be their still but although very good it was basically broth, meat, sprouts (which I love) and sweet basil (instead of cilantro). Again, it was still very good but why I only gave them four stars. My wife's dish was elegant, and I'd even say fancy. Instead of dumping everything in a big bowl and calling it fried rice each element was presented seperately and generiously. Her dish was far more flavorful and complex than mine. She honestly had made a better selection and perhaps I ordered something that was not their best dish. I think my wife would have rated them five stars. Last we also ordered the fresh translucent spring rolls with the peanuty dipping sauce. It was perfect, fresh, cool, crisp and always fun to see through the translucent wrap. The sauce was so good we wanted to eat it with a spoon after the spring rolls were consumed.

It is an allergy to mammal meat. For this reason we don't order spring or egg rolls. However, our waiter had the cook make spring rolls for us with shrimp only. They were great! I ordered extra to take home. Also, we had chicken and noodles. It was fresh colorful and my husband finished it off. We will return to Kim's Kitchen.

I don't mind spicy, if I'm feeling froggy I will ask for "Thai hot", but I wasn't feeling it tonight so I asked for 3 out of five stars. What I got was unpleasantly spicy with zero flavor - just heat, didn't even have any flavor of coconut milk. I make Thai curries regularly (it isn't hard - heat coconut oil, fry the curry paste, add meat, vegetables, coconut milk, sugar, fish sauce, basil leaves and fresh lime). It's always a fight with the family over the spice level, because more curry paste means more flavor. What I got from Typhoon was not made with curry paste (if it was it would have had the flavor of Thai curry...) but it was NOT Thai curry. Maybe bad Chinese food pretending to be Thai? My wife had the Tom Yum Gai (soup). Very little chicken and worse flavor. She had diarrhea with an hour and a half. As a former restaurant owner I hate giving a bad review because I know how hard you work and how demoralizing it can be when you get a bad review from an, often as not, deranged customer having a bad day. But man this meal should be a crime. We ended up eating half and throwing out the rest. The server was pleasant, seemed like a nice kid.

Update: our food came only after I went and talked to the manager or owner and let her know that we have been waiting for 50 minutes and have not received our food... And others had received their food and left already and those people had come in after us. The food itself is great. I don't have anything bad to say about my beef pho. My wife had chicken pho, and while it tasted good, it did not have but maybe 2 tablespoons of chicken in it. We didn't have any table service for some reason. We weren't asked how everything was. We weren't asked if we wanted more water or a refill. We had to ask for a highchair for our son. The highchair we received was black and filthy. Overall, everything is very disorganized and they need more wait staff, and they need to keep the orders straight, somehow. When I went up to pay, without any kind of a bill or ticket with me, the person at cash register asked if they could help me and did not know where my bill was. There also is only one restroom and that restroom does not have a changing table for a child. There are also only large cups for drinks and not any small cups for children. It's also noteworthy that they only have the one highchair for the whole restaurant. The food itself is great. The service is slow and disorganized, but we will give them another try later on. They just opened this past Monday. It is noteworthy to say that this place has been supposed to open for about a month and a half half and so there's been plenty of time for preparation and to get all of this straightened out and that was not obviously done.

The broth is ok, no cilantro as well, not worth the price. When I asked the waiter for an extra bowl for my wife so she can have some soup too on the side, he gave me a dirty look. For a place that's not so busy, they could use some good customer service .
