My other daughter loved going to watch so much, she gave up MMA to dance (and is now going to dance 4 classes a week!). But, why I really love it is the classes for me! I can fit in a barre class while my kids dance. They are the only studio around that has the fabulous 9:30-10:30 A.M. class - perfect for a Cherry Hill mom to walk the kids to school, get there, work out, go home and shower, and pick up the kindergartener. The instructors are positive, without being too mean or too perky. And, because I am Deaf, they keep an eye out to see if I am totally off base with what I am doing and will quickly come and help out. But the best part? I hadn't ocean kayaked off LBI for 12 years. While I am not in shape at all, just by taking barre once a week (or once every other), I was able to carry the kayak to the beach, drag it down, launch through the waves, get my daughter in, paddle us both for a half hour, then drag it back up the beach and carry it home. Oh, and when we went to Great Adventure two days later, I could ride Kingda Ka without hurting my back (which happened the year before). I may be silently cursing Michele, Kristen, or Stephanie as they make me do planks, but it is paying off big time in being stronger. I love that they focus on progress and strength and not size...both for myself and my daughters. Love, love, love this studio.

Candlelight host private and group dance settings. They offer packages that accommodate beginners or intermediate. Also, they have dance parties based on a rotating monthly schedule (mainly Fridays). Not only was it a fun way to prep for our first dance, but it also turned into the best date nights and a really special bonding experience for us as a couple. Alli from Storm Dance Studio is an absolute gem--she's so sweet, fun, and clearly passionate about what she does. (If you are a USA Dance member you get a 2 buck discount.) The people are friendly - you don't need to come with a dance partner - people will ask you to dance (or you can ask them!) It helps if you know some dance basics but even that is not required - you can still have fun. There is lots of free parking. It is air conditioned and has a decent dance floor.

Today, I decided to try out the Voorhees location mainly due to the indoor track. I am training for a race and I don't like to run on treadmills or in poor weather. The "indoor track" has 2 narrow lanes for jogging and walking, yet most of the members seemed oblivious to this and I was dodging people who were not aware of their surroundings for most of the run. The track circles their cardio equipment, therefore you're just passing people staring at you run. I quickly realized the indoor track was not what I was looking for. But, I already knew I wouldn't sign up for the gym even before seeing the indoor track due to a comment the member specialist said while giving me a tour. As he is pointing out the equipment, he says "here is the incline chest press, but women don't need to use this unless they are body building." I'm sorry, sir, but as a 60 something year old man who opted to take the elevator instead of the stairs due to physical issues... how the hell do YOU know what women need? Are you a woman? Are you a trainer? Are you ME? No... that comment was unnecessary and I won't be back. Two stars because they do have top of the line equipment, as well as good amenities (sauna, pool). It was crowded, but it was also a Sunday.
