The Jack Watckins Reserve on Churchill Road is really easy to miss. It's entrance is nestled between the railway yard (used mainly for storing the pylons for wind-farm windmills) and some light industry, but once you enter the car park you see rolling hills (Julie Andrews starts singing), a picturesque gum tree lined path, play equipment, circuit training equipment and even a bbq area! The area is perfect for a family picnic, with plenty to keep the junior kiddiwinkles entertained plus a basketball half court for the older sporties and plenty of room for a dob of the pigskin should the testosterone levels reach an appropriate level! Although the park has many fun options for all, it also has a serious side being dedicated to those who lost their lives due to Asbestos diseases as a result of working on the old Islington Railway line. There are many stories and writings located in the park and along the pathway that are definately worth the time to read. Even if you don't take the clan for a bbq day there, it is worth the time to swing by and see some of what Adelaide has hidden if you look hard enough. P.S. The Park is open until 8:00pm during daylight savings.

Even before high school, I used to come here as a kid and always found it to be a safe and comfortable environment. Bordered by Rivington Grove, Kennaway St and Stirling St, Tusmore Park has a number of great facilities. In the summer there is a wading pool for kids, there are two playgrounds plus a fenced area for extra security, public toilets, and a large grass area for sports. BBQ facilities are also available, as well as picnic areas. There is ample street parking, plus the park provides a lot of shade from surrounding trees. It is a beautiful park, complete with five (I think) free tennis courts as well. It does get busy, especially in summer and on weekends, so get there quick.

I used to come here a lot as a child and have many fond memories. Even in my older years I still frequent Tusmore Park for a spot of inner city landscape painting. There is a small wading pool for small children which is covered by a pergola for sun protection. The creek only really runs in the winter time and even then is quite shallow. There is a bunch of playground equipment as well as bbq facilities. The Hanson reserve provides a sizable patch of grass for ball games and the like. At the base of the reserve is a section reserved for the regrowth native vegetation, as well as a sort of little Forrest of older trees, which is great fun for kids to explore. The park gets quite busy on the weekends during summer, when lots of families have picknicks and bbqs. Probably best to get there early to ensure you get a spot.

Anyway, this park was actually rather delightful, especially with all the ponds that are located here. The main area is rather flat and grassy, but it is actually surrounded by ponds on three sides, though the side facing the road isn't one of them. It actually makes this place a rather lovely place to walk around. Yeah, I quite liked it.

Webb Oval is actually two ovals, but hey, who am I to complain about that??? There's a sportshouse…read morein the middle used by a couple of clubs, and the ovals are used for sports all year round, cricket in the summer, footie and soccer through the winter. You can find people exercising, walking and jogging, pretty much all year round, too. There's a big playground, well shaded, with nice up to date equipment, all fully fenced in. There were toilets but they have recently been bulldozed and are being rebuilt. My memories say there's barbecues, but on my visit last week I couldn't actually spot them - maybe they were bulldozed too?? It's a good, open park - I've flown kites here on more than one occasion - I've done more than a few laps, walking, too - great place to get some fresh air.

Not only is there a Toy Library right next to the playground, but the playground itself is relatively new and exciting. For those of us who get excited about shade, yes there is even shade sails over most of the playground! It's also fully fenced. I couldn't get close up photos as there were children playing...another good sign that this is a great place to be. Well worth a look if you're in the area. With massive ovals, there's plenty of room to kick a ball or throw a frisbee. *Dogs allowed (Not in playground area)*

As you can see from the photos, once you're up on the playground, there's nothing to do except come straight back down again but there's a few climbing activities all over the playground. There is a working drinking fountain but no shade apart from what's built into the playground already. Seeing as this is part of the Oval grounds, there would be toilets somewhere, but they're not close to the playground from what I could tell. *Dogs allowed* *Drinking fountain*

In fact I have…read moredriven down Osmond Terrace at Norwood on many an occasion and noticed some lovely black wrought iron gates with lots of greenery behind them. This time however I discovered the park via its other entrance, around the corner on Magill Road. I truly believe this park has something for everyone. It's a stunner. This park has obviously been around for a while because there's a plaque inside saying it was opened by Don Dunstan back in 1978 but there are other notices saying it has just undergone a significant upgrade. All I can say to the Norwood Council is ... well done you guys! Great job! Not only is the park beautifully landscaped with accompanying paved areas, there is masses of seating, a playground, barbecues, toilets, a dog drinking fountain, a people drinking fountain and some great art has been created on bare walls to bring them to life as well. The quirkiest and cutest thing in the park would have to be the stump of an old tree that looks like a loo! At first I thought, what a cool seat under that tree but on closer inspection there's a hole in the centre that makes it look more like a toilet. Glad to see someone has a sense of humour when it comes to public spaces. Great park and there are good coffee shops just across Magill Road if you want to get a coffee and enjoy it outdoors. BTW I'm with Tegan - its not a little park!

It…read moreis positioned behind the businesses on the really high profile corner of Magill Rd and Osmond Tce. It's not that small as alleged by my fellow yelpers, rather it has three joined but sort of seperated parts. There are two sets of play equipment, brand new toilet block, a bike parking area, a filtered drinking water 'station', bags for doggy doo, lots of green grass, lots of seating, a mural and a big fancy sign. I love it, so please don't come here unless you are very goodlooking, or intelligent, or interesting, or generally have something to offer, even if it's just chocolate. This one was a real pain in the behind to get to with streets that you can only travel along in…read morecertain directions and the train line right behind it as well. However once I got here I was quite surprised. It really was very different. For starters it's really quite large an area once you get there. Much bigger than it appears on a map. Not really okay for footy or the likes though as it is very undulating land but it makes it nicer I think. With the little hills built up and pathways throughout. Plenty of shelters, tables, seating, shade, water, even TOILETS!!!! And a tennis court over the other side near the newer looking playground. The older playground looks like a huge fort with plenty of woodwork in it as well. It's great having so many different activities in different are's of this park. You could end up here for a couple of hours easy just checking them all out and going from one to the next. And with toilets onsite why not bring a picnic, or even just some snacks, and spend a few hours here. If you drive best parking area is at end of Pinda Street so try head up there. Otherwise it is like a maze the streets around this one.

It's a shame that this place is absolutely packed on weekends but that just goes to show that I'm not the only one that feels this way. there is so much to do that even when it is packed it is not a problem at all, the kids all play with each other and there are just so many things to do such as a massive tower to climb with a slide for very the kids, A flying fox, multiple swing sets, a toddler fort suitable for those that have just started to walk, tennis courts, basketball court, lots of grassed area for ball sports, waterplay, sand play, bbqs, trampolines, musical instruments etc etc. I would suggest getting there at six in the morning if you want to book a table for the day for a party But just in case I would bring table and chairs yourself if you are holding a party here. This has so many cool things to do whether your child is under 1 or 16.. I also love the walking Trail because it is beautiful and wide and the kids (and adults) can ride bikes or go for a walk along the path and no one has to get out the way to let people through because it is so nice and wide with a beach view. How much more perfect can you get??
