Full slab rib plate - juicy tender ribs with really sensational seasoning and light sauce. Love the house bbq sauce our order came with. Basket of cornbread - really dense cornbread which is unusual but I like the taste and texture. THREE meats - pulled pork melts like butter in your mouth so moist. 1/4 BBQ chicken leg - nicely done Smoked sausage - a nice option. Handcut fries - I wouldn't say I'm a fan, these were too mushy for me. Large potato salad - yes go for this all the way! It was a really nice side. Lots of onions though so if you don't like that well too bad. TWO meats - Beef Brisket - falling apart so delicate and good 1/4 BBQ chicken breast - again nicely done Large Mac n Cheese - a little spice hit I enjoyed but the kids didn't like it. Orders online and it was done right on time for pickup. Noticed a few seats inside. Dark interior vibes.

When Halloween came around and my wife and I were looking for some easy eats before the onslaught…read moreof trick-or-treaters, admittedly, R&B Kitchen was not our first choice. Unfortunately, many other people had a similar first choice as us - pizza - and 40 demoralizing, failed calls to Yeah Yeahs nudged us toward our backup plan. Ordering was easy on Skip, with about ten options to choose from. The offerings are mainly Caribbean - oxtail and jerk chicken-based dishes figure prominently - as well as some Southern influences. We ordered a mix of things to try as much as possible, going for the jerk chicken, ox tail, and Canadian loaded mac and cheese. Our order was ready very quickly, barely longer than the drive to get it. Even with said drive, we probably got our food an hour quicker than a slammed pizza place would have been. It's hard to say which dish was the clear winner, as as all were well executed, but the loaded mac and cheese got the most oohs and ahhs. Topped with a hefty dose of Brothers pepperoni, bacon, ground beef, mushrooms and green pepper, it was like a works pizza on mac and cheese, and it definitely worked! The jerk chicken had a really good pop of flavour from its complex mix of savoury seasonings, including a zesty heat that definitely made itself known, but didn't set off any smoke detectors. The meat was deftly cooked as well, with the thigh and two drums tender but not dry and overcooked. A generous serving of rice and peas, coleslaw and cornbread rounded out a container that was on the edge of needing further structural support! My choice was the ox tail - I love the fatty, beefy mix of meat and sauce, and the pinwheel-like tail bones are weird and fun to me. R&B's ox tail was a very good rendition, checking every box. Some very large beans showed up to bulk up the dish even more, and rice and peas soaked up all the saucy goodness. R&B likely cheats a bit with their cornbread and adds flour, but it was light, fluffy and delicious, so hard to complain about. On my next time darkening their doorway, I was dining solo and opted for the BBQ ribs. When you pick up a takeout container and it's got some heft to it, you know you're in for a hearty meal, and while this dish might not check a lot of boxes on Canada's Food Guide, you're not going to be hungry afterward! Three large ribs were nestled on top of a heap of mac and cheese, with a dark glaze that was savoury and sweet - but not too sweet. The ribs were meaty, and bites came away in easy chunks, signaling a spot on cook. Not to be outdone, the baked mac and cheese was well-executed and while not as over-the-top as the loaded version, it was still a great example of this comfort food classic. The green beans were a tasty surprise because I didn't know that they not only had garlic in them, but they had a *lot* of garlic in them. Vampires take heed! A large chunk of cornbread completed the meal with a golden brown crust on top, and pleasant crumb. It wasn't quite as fluffy as a cornmeal-only cornbread, but I can't begrudge them some wheat flour to help hold things together. Consider this review a song of praise, because R&B Kitchen is hitting all the right notes, and next time we order, they'll be second fiddle to no one.

We like to try new foods and we don't always like them, but the adventure is in exploring new food cultures. The food here was really good! Some folks that tried the Rappie pie or bites weren't enthused about them but glad they tried. It's one of those acquired tastes I assume. I had the meat pie and really enjoyed it. Those that had fish and chips said they were really good.

What is Acadian food? Well, for us it was fish cakes, meat pie, and rappie bites. Most of the menu…read morewas Acadian, as identified by a French flag next to the item. If those don't appeal , there are a small number of standards like fish&chips, lobster roll, and poutine. My l'Acadie Fishcakes were made from salt fish (cod?) from Nova Scotia, expertly pan-fried. The portion was reasonable - though they were so good I could have eaten a third. They were served without a sauce (not needed), accompanied by house-made baked beans and marinated carrots. The sides were no afterthought either; the red beans were baked (not overbaked) in a flavorful sauce, and the carrots, thinly sliced, were sweet and tangy. The wife got the l'Acadie Meat Pie: a 1/4 portion of a round pie. The filling was the shredded meat, a blend of chicken, beef, and pork (!), seasoned with garlic and spices. This was inside what was described as a biscuit crust. Overall this was very good, not heavy like a meat pie can be, and not dry - but if you find it so there is the au jus gravy on the side. We didn't find it necessary. This pie was served with an excellent Caesar Salad. We split an order of Rappie Bites, which is a way to experience rappie pie in appetizer form. A filling made from grated potatoes and ground chicken, formed into golf-sized balls and deep fried. Interesting. I was expecting a firmer texture like a hush puppy which they resembled but the filling in these were soft and contained by the slightly crispy crust (of bread crumbs?) Unlike the bites which are always available, the pie is a specialty, available only on Sunday, and advance reservations are recommended to guarantee you can get it. I haven't had it in pie form and would maybe try it, but the meat pie was so good I might end up getting that again instead. I had a local cider to drink. Several local craft beers were available as well as wine. I don't remember if liquor was available. There were several desserts but we didn't try them. The only one specifically identified as Acadian was the Pouding Chômeur, described as a dumpling-like cake batter which caramelizes when baked, in a homemade maple sauce. Also ginger molasses cake, maple bread pudding, apple crisp, and strawberry shortcake - with the biscuits made in-house. As I am writing this they all sound so good I wish we had tried one - or more!

I will next time. The food came out so quick. Less that's 10 mins I'm guessing. Let me tell you, I'm a calamari snob and theirs is amazing! Do you see all this goodness in the pic? Seafood platter with haddock tips, scallops, calamari and fries seasoned with cracked black pepper and Himalayan salt! Don't pass on the salt and pepper. I think they were some of the best fries I've ever had. I can't wait to go back. April 22 2023 UPDATE Tonight I ordered Jim's via Uber Eats. It hurts to write this but I was underwhelmed. I ordered the seafood platter. There was no cole slaw, very few calamari and the shrimp were cocktail shrimp. There was no option for the beef gravy on the app, only the chicken gravy. Not a fan of the gravy. It was heavy on the thyme. The fish was soggy, so I heated it in the air fryer. It made a difference. I will definitely be back to Jim's for dine in, however very unlikely to order for delivery again. It's not the same quality. Really sad that I didn't get my coleslaw. Also I ordered the wings. They were ok. They are advertised as " lightly" breaded. So lightly in fact that is was almost non existent. I'll post pics. I know delivery will impact the temp of the food, so this review will not lower my score. I still think the food at Jim's is great.

We were seated promptly, the restaurant is bistro. Ethan came to bring our menus and water, left us for a few minutes for us to get settled in. We perused the drink menus, Mr. for a Hendricks martini, I for a virgin slow fizz. Ethan came back with a plate of bread and whipped butter, took our drink orders, leaving us to look at the food menu. It wasn't a very large menu, but enough choices to make it VERY difficult to choose because every dish looked like a special date night pick. We settled on calamari for me, 6 oysters for him. For dinner, he chose the duck, I went with the shrimp fettuccine. From the start, I can't tell you how amazing everything was. Dinner talk was almost non-existent because of how much we were enjoying the food. The duck was cooked perfectly. The shrimp, there was I estimate a pound of shrimp, with maybe a quarter pound of pasta. It was incredible. Throughout Ethan checked in on us to top up our water, see if we needed drink, if everything was to our liking. We didn't finish, because we wanted leftovers, and wanted to save room for dessert. That menu came, and everything looked wonderful. Asked Ethan what he would recommend, the Petit Fours, to share. He didn't try to upsell, he knew that would be enough. And it was. Mr. got a glass of port to go along with it, perfect. It was a perfect meal. Thank you Ethan, thank you Agricola.
