We were able to select exactly what we were looking for with their guidance. Highland utilizes software capable of creating 3D renderings of the landscape with the plants we selected at full maturity to ensure that we were getting the curb appeal we envisioned. Highland doesn't hesitate to devote a large crew to a landscaping project when its required. Every Highland employee that we interfaced with was courteous and respectful. Once the plants were delivered, they planted with the same care and attention to detail. They ran two driplines to every plant and ensured that the right size emitters were used based on the plants water needs. Highland has skilled craftsmen that take pride in their work. They go above and beyond to ensure that you are pleased with the final result. We had a particularly challenging area, that we were not sure how to address. Highland came up with a unique solution that they implemented beautifully. From the beginning of a project, Highland listened to our concerns and goals. They were conveniently located a block away, so it worked out well. As far as aeration and power raking are concerned, they always did top notch work. They arrived on the day they had promised, did the work, and cleaned up after words. No complaint there! However, I do have one issue with this business. There were a few times here and there, when either our lawn mower was out of commission, or when we were in the process of moving and our mower was already loaded in the moving truck, that we had inquired as to whether they could mow our lawn. I spoke with the owner, who's name is Ron (who was always friendly), and asked if we could have them come out and cut our grass. He would always reply, "Yes, we can mow your lawn, and we'll be out every two weeks after that." I found that odd. I asked him why that was the case, and reiterated that we did not need to setup a lawn cutting schedule, as we only needed the grass cut as needed. He replied, "Well, that's the schedule." His general attitude at this point was sort of like "Take it or leave it." I found that to be very troubling. Turning away business, even sporadic business, is not a good practice in my opinion. Who knows what kind of business you could get over time from even your smallest customer? Being that we were already a seasonal customer for aeration and power raking, I was disappointed that he took that stance. I understand that mowing a lawn here and there that isn't in his normal schedule could be an inconvenience. But hey, there are plenty of other lawn businesses that would love to gain a new customer. I try to be fair and balanced in my reviews, and I am giving them 3 stars because of their good aeration and power raking work. If not for Ron's stance on mowing lawns on an as needed basis, I would have given Area Northwest a higher rating.

My wrist recovered, but I have continued to use them because the lawn looks so much better when they do it. I find Area Northwest very dependable and sensitive to the changes in weather, temperature, etc., which is crucial these days, especially as summers have become increasingly dry and hot. They switched from a riding mower to a push-type mower after I thought the riding one was cutting too short. They will skip a mowing if they -- or I -- think it would hurt my brown, parched lawn.
