Friendly staff. Had water issue that apparently was recently fixed which affected course conditions. The greens had been aerated which I new prior to booking. Challenging course with narrow fairways. Course was empty as played by myself and did not see another golfer during round. Overall was disappointed as thought course had great reputation. Nothing special which was okay for golf now prices. read more

Pretty course but not managed well. Went out as a twosome with a group consisting of a man and his very young son yesterday afternoon. They did not keep to playing in a timely manner. At hole number five, they had been joined by two family members. By hole 7, they were a group of 6 and holding a single man, who we let skip ahead, and us keep waiting. One of the golf carts was driven across the green, and everyone was hooting and hollering. We decided to skip the 10th hole and the group of six, only to find a group of 8 (!) on the 11th green. We skipped that hole too ( after paying full resort pricing). We called to the pro shop and got no assistance. No marshall was sent out to deal with these groups. Upon returning to the outside of the pro shop, we told the assistant what had happened and he just shrugged. Apparently, one the Marshall goes home, local groups just jump on in any sized group that works for them. Crappy experience. The course at Mauna Rea is just far superior in every way. read more

The stuff inside the pro shop are not very friendly and they take every opportunity to avoid work and arriving as a single player that got a pretty good deal online they didn't treat me like a paying customer. I guess they didn't like the rate on GolfBook. They worked out those rates with a separate party. They should treat all customers the same customer service. Or don't work there. read more

Great course with wonderful views of the ocean. Got a deal from Golf Now so it was reasonably affordable for a mainlander. Key to scoring is the wind. Unfortunately the wind was blowing very hard in the front nine so my scores suffered but it calmed down a bit on the back side so my scores improved by over a stroke a hole. Definitely nice golf course. It was closed for sometime, I believe, for upkeep. Greens are in very good shape. We like the course design and it fit our level of playing. It was overpriced at the time we played. I guess, if you aren't ready to open don't open or provide some discounted rates. The parking was closed for resurfacing. One of the bathrooms on the course was locked. The pro shop staff are not the friendliest. All this comments bring the golf course not more then average one. Either raised the quality of service or priced appropriately. read more

It plays long and if you are from the desert like me... The humidity and sea level seem to not make the ball go as far. Beautiful course! Almost every hole is picture perfect. It seemed like more than half the course played uphill. What was kinda cool was that on holes 10-11-12.... there were goats... like A LOT of goats. It was totally a different experience playing amongst the goats. They didn't really bother us but I could see where they could be a nuisance. Still... it was neat to see this part of nature "in play". Totally would play this course again. :) read more

I've played here for 14 years. The course is currently in the best shape ever! The greens are fantastic for a mid-priced Hawaiian course. 2 years ago, they totally rebuilt the greens with new grass from a top end private course. The greens at Hapuna are almost as good as the top end private courses on the Big Island. They are cut short, and roll true and fast. Not as fast as Nanea or Kukio, but damn close! Nice course, weak greens TeeOff.com had a good deal. This is a nice ocean view course (no ocean holes) up in the north Kona area that offers a better deal than its big brother Mauna Kea. Greens were not in the best shape and parts you could not really put at all. That said the rest of the course is in good shape and we had a good time. People are friendly and the service is good. Note: no beer or food sold in the clubhouse so bring your own or wait for the beverage cart which came around the ninth hole. We got a good deal on TeeOff so we were happy. We would have been more disappointed with the shape of the greens if we had payed rack rate. Tons of goats on parts of the back nine and although not right on the ocean you still have great views. read more

Favorite course on the island -- and with some decent discounts if you look for them on GolfNow. The course was in excellent condition and not overcrowded (or at least seemed that way as a result if the layout.) We finished a weekday round in 3.5 hours. Fabulous! Every hole had challenge, but didn't feel unfair or tricked up. And no torturous sand traps guarding the greens like those found on Mauna Kea course. Hole #14 is especially fun - a reachable par 5 for big hitters with a sharp dog leg right straight uphill to the green. Every hole had views too. Beautiful sweeping views of lava desert and mountains or gorgeous broad views of the ocean below. A tip: bring extra water (ask for it or bring your own). Temps were hot, though there was a little breeze which helped. Unlike other courses, #9 hole did not lead back to the clubhouse so there were no easy opportunities to restock water if you were out of range of the concessions cart. read more

I played here 2 times already... and I loved it each time. Great course for kama'aina since it's $60 to play. The course itself is well maintained. What's cool about this place is that there are goats just roaming the course. Ya! It's pretty trippy. They drink the water and cross the fairway in herds. It might bother some avid golfers, but for me I was taking pictures like a tourist. Almost every hole has a picture opportunity spot since the views are spectacular. I'm glad I went on a slow day or else I'll be holding up golf traffic! read more

Played in mid-January and I would absolutely play this course again. Check-in was quick and easy, Kamaaina 50 plus get a nice rate. Great practice area for your short game, putting green, all right next to the driving range. Course starts going up hill, which is not my favorite way to start a round, but playing from the white tees (6029 yards), the course is very manageable. On the day that I played, the trades were not blowing, so the course was a lot easier. Outstanding views from most of the tee boxes. Nice scenery of the Kohala coast, Mauna Kea the Kawaiihae harbor area. Greens were very receptive and not too difficult to read. The only downer was the lack of water in the pond on #13. Bunkers were well maintained, which is a rarity in Hawaii.... read more

We knew we were in for an interesting day when the big sign in the pro shop said "No Wind Checks". The tradewinds were forecast to hit the Big Island at 10 AM and they were going to have wind gusts of 40 to 50 MPH. They were right on schedule. The course is in amazing shape. Fairways, tee boxes, and greens were pristine. Today the Hapuna course was Mr.Hyde and Dr. Jeykle. The front side was all uphill into elevated greens and a howling wind that rocked our carts. The wind had the ball oscillating on the tee. Golf gloves and scorecards were flying off in every direction. Putting was tough because the ball would not stop. Tee shots were difficult because the wind wanted to knock you off kilter. The back side was more like Dr.Jeykle. We had the wind at our back and if you tagged your shot you picked up another 30 yards. The downside was it was tough to hold the green on approach shots. We had a fun time here. The views of the ocean and the mountains are amazing. Several groups packed it in because of the winds. We enjoyed our visit and look forward to returning. Hapuna is one of the top three golf courses on the Big Island. read more

This is the only course I played on the island, it is a bit pricey even for golfnow.com or golfhub.com. It is a phenomenal course with amazing views on almost every hole. My favorite part was all the goats walking around on one of the holes. The course is in great shape and the staff is friendly but dont really go out of their way to give you special treatment.. Definitely worth playing atleast once but not worth paying that price more than a couple of times. read more

Great course, great people! A fair amount of hills, but in nice shape. Have played here several times, other than when it's windy, it's always a fun day. Husband and I went up yesterday on the 50 senior deal. Third hole in, he was sick! Geez......dropped him back off at car, went in, pleaded our case. They made it so easy. Said come back another time for free.....or they would have refunded our money. Wow! Was surprised.....so told them to keep it, and we'd come back another day. We really like this course with all the beautiful surrounding views. read more

If it is windy at all, do NOT play here. Payed $500 for 3 players and it was wasted money. Once you get up in the hills it is a nightmare with wind. On hole 5 we shot 3 times and the ball just came back and landed at our feet. Nice course but not worth the money. Plus they don't let you cancel if its windy so enjoy throwing your money away! read more

Nice course with ocean views. This is my third round over the years I have been to the Big Island. The greens were a little rough since the had been punched a few weeks ago. The rest of the course was in great shape. Reasonable green fees compared to the other resort courses in the area. Some people might be disappointed you don't play along or over the ocean but still an enjoyable course read more

This course was a big disappointment. We paid $479 for club rentals, greens fees and cart. The driver was damaged enough to be unusable and many of the the other clubs were in tough shape. The worst part was that the cart hardly made it up the hills and when it did, it bucked every two seconds. We did not think we would make it around the 18 holes. When we complained,their answer was that we did not know how to drive a cart. The scenery was beautiful but the greens were in tough shape. The cup holes were ragged and had not been changed. Just played hapuna this week and was very disappointed. Fairway's were okay but the greens were in poor condition. It was not worth the money. Hint check out waikoloa village golf less money and much better course read more
