It's amazing property the views and the staff's was wonderful. Even gotten a upgrade but my concerns was the layout for ADA room just strange my room was toward the end of the wing. I have issues with my knee I can't walk that far so prepare a long walk from the elevator to the room. Have a amazing view from my room just the bed needed to be lower I have to just do a small jump to get in and the shower was a little cramp without much turning space if they just removed the soaking tub its will be perfect. This is most awesome beach ever (I've been to many beaches), and the hotel is very good too. One caveat is if you have mobility issues, this might not be the place as there's a bit of up and down stairs to get to the pool and beach. But we enjoy going up stairs for fun. I'm sure they have some accommodation, tho. One disappointment is they don't great each other by saying HaPuna matata. I got blank stares when I tried this. But it is really good pun, no? Food is expensive, out of compound restaurants are distant, so pay and enjoy as it was very good. read more

Love the Hapuna Beach Hotel. We have been coming here for over 20 years and the service is always top notch. There has never been a bad day or anyone that has been anything short of providing the best service. They understand how to treat guests; with an abundance of mana! I have always loved this property and this year we celebrated 25 years since our first visit with many in-between and our third Christmas here! Will always love this place ! There were a couple of small issues but overall it was superb! We had asked in advance for the South side of the property which they kindly gave us but last year I had booked the lanai room - this year I did not book that as we wanted to be higher up but got it anyway - cannot remember however if I had paid more to be higher up - but it's a lovely room though the same things that were broken last year - the blinds not closing, coffee pot handle hanging off and broken sink - were all still broken - add to that a shower that groaned loudly every time we turned it on and despite tipping housekeeping well - things like shower gel, coffees , towels were missing though they did apologize for that and take care of the resort fee! Last year they had a take out breakfast for platinum and above members which was great so you could be up and about on the beach early - this year we were told it was gone and it be only option was the Bento box at the restaurant where you had to eat in place! The breakfast is great though and always lovely staff ! BUT the room is still lovely, the resort stunning. Pools are lovely - we spent time at both the family pools and adult pools. The beach access is amazing and there appeared to be more lounges this time! Plenty of umbrellas and shade! The cabanas are also lovely and are our go to on Christmas Day and they deliver coolers with soft drinks , fruit and snacks! Great restaurants on property and I want to recognize Jerry who is always the best bar tender and Amy the Concierge who was so lovely and helped us set up our reservations ahead of time ! Right when we entered the lobby. It was a breath taking view. This was the first time on the Big Island and we picked this resort since we are Marriott members. The place is really amazing. Check in was a breeze. We got an ocean view room which was lovely. It was so pretty and nice. The place is super clean and the staff was so wonderful. We received breakfast each morning for free because of my status with Marriott. So amazing. The food was fantastic too. Crazy with all the birds trying to grab your food. I liked that it wasn't too crowded all around the resort. Every where was nicely kept up. The pool was great . If we ever come back to this island we will be staying here again. read more

First of all, we stayed at the Mauna Kea Residences which are between the Westin and the ocean. We had all the advantages of the Westin: pool, beach, exercise room, spa, restaurants with the convenience of a full service condo. We found everyone, and I mean everyone, to be friendly and helpful! The restaurant staff at both restaurants went out of their way to accommodate us. Special orders were handled with a smile. View of the ocean is always a plus and just a quiet, relaxing stay. Room cleaned everytime with ice bucket filled. Aloha all around with the staff. Check out their free activities and offers during your stay. Do room service if desired or just go down to their restaurants but check the hours of operation. There's also strategically placed water stations to fill up your free water bottle during your stay or whatver activities you have planned during your stay. Beach front was not crowded at any time of the day during our stay which was really great. This spot is as romantic and dreamy as you get. As soon as you drive your vehicle onto the property, you are greeted by a valet and someone to take your luggage. Get ready to tip everyone lol. This place was strategically engineered and designed. Every corner of this property has a view - we were really impressed. The rooms were spacious, clean and situated to see the ocean. The set up by the beach couldn't have been any better. They have two pools restaurants, bars and a snack shop. Bring money you will need it. When a friend suggested our family meet up this summer at the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort for a vacation together, I was game... and after a bit of research, I realized I was able to book our stay with Bonvoy points, which sealed the deal! Our family of four arrived to the Big Island and to this lovely resort on a Monday evening and departed on a Saturday evening, so we were able to enjoy five nights and five full days. We pulled up and were impressed by the beautiful grounds and upon check-in we were given fresh colorful lais and a refreshing welcome drink too. Aside from a bit of a scary tsunami warning during our stay, everything was wonderful... We spent a fair amount of time at both the pool and the beach, visited all of the onsite restaurants, went to the fitness room a couple of times, and also spent some time at the Mauna Kea nearby and on some day trips as well. We slept well in the Westin Heavenly beds and filled our water bottles up often with their refill stations located all around the hotel (nice touch with that). This was a great, safe spot for a family vacation... we will cherish the memories and maybe return one day in the future too! read more

The Big island remains my favorite island in Maui. I thought it was because my first and last time in the Big Island I was spoiled with a stay at the Four Seasons, which may be one of my favorite hotels ever. This time I was spoiled with a stay at the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort with my husband and 3 kids and still have mad love for the Big Island. I was told leading up to our stay that Hapuna Beach was the best beach in Hawaii. Admittedly I'm not really a beach person, but I was determined to become a beach person during this stay. After leaving here I'm still more of a pool gal, but my kids found a new love for the beach..especially when there are really big waves like there were in Hapuna Beach. I had booked 2 connecting rooms a year ago and called several times to confirm that they would be connecting since traveling with children. They told me (as always) that they couldn't confirm they would be connected, but would note it and try their best. When we checked in we were given rooms right next to each other, but not connecting. Our kids are a little older so it was fine, but wouldn't have been ideal a few years ago when they were younger. The rooms themselves were really nice, spacious and I enjoyed lounging on the patio almost as much as the pool. We did have a little ant problem the first few days in the bathroom of the kids room. Fortunately, housekeeping was very responsive and came by several times to spray which seemed to take care of it. As for the pools there is an adult pool and a kids pool. We had come from the Wailea Beach Resort in Maui, which had an amazing adult pool with incredible service. It wasn't quite the case here so I spent more time at the kids pool with the family. It may have been that it was a holiday week, but it was often tough to track down a server at the pool. We also had to put stuff on chairs in the morning to get the area we wanted, but i was always able to find something throughout the day. As for eating options there's the restaurant at the pool, which is casual and solid. Merida is their nicer restaurant, which was pretty good, but also pretty $$$ so good for just one meal IMO. They also have a breakfast buffet, which we tried once or twice and then decided we liked the coffee shop best. The coffee shop also served really great pizza until 9pm, which we had on a few occasions thorughout the week. I did get pretty sick of resort food and found myself jumping in the car to run to the market or for an acai bowl. Since this hotel is pretty remote the closest food options were about 12 min away. While the pool service wasn't great, I was really grateful for Amy at the concierge desk. She was SO helpful booking activities and restaurants leading up to our stay that I was super excited to meet her in person. And she was just as helpful IRL. I've never had such great concierge service at any hotel and everything she booked for us was amazing. The sister resort is the Mauna Kea, which is just around the corner. I spent just as much time at the Mauna Kea as I did at the Westin because I absolutely loved their tennis club and overall vibe of the resort. While Mauna Kea is known for the absolute best beach, they do have a dinky little pool (although a new adult pool and gym is under construction). My kids preferred the Westin, but my husband and I said if we came back on our own we would stay at Mauna Kea...if we didn't splurge for the Four Seasons again. Between Mauna Kea and Westin you get the best of both worlds and many guests go back and forth. We aren't golfers so we didn't take advantage of the golf club, but my stepsister did and said the views were incredible. Overall, a great spot for a family vacation on the most beautiful island and you see that beauty from this gorgeous lobby. I try to stick with Marriott hotels when traveling and if you like to do the same this is a great option. read more

We stayed here again for Thanksgiving week. We still absolutely love the property, but I have to mention the lack of some things that aren't typical of a nice resort like this. Having just stayed at the Four Seasons in Oahu these things are even more apparent this year than they were last year. First off (and I mentioned this in my last review), is the lack of light control. The heavy louvered doors let so much light in when the sun comes up that it's hard to sleep past the sunrise. Also the pillows aren't the best and are lumpy. The comforter they have on the beds is so heavy that it ends up on the floor in the middle of the night every night. And lastly, the faucets are placed so far over the sinks that it's hard to fit your face over the sink to wash your face without getting water all over the place. I know those seem like minor things, but when you pay to stay in a nice resort like this, they are pretty glaring. If they could fix those things then this might be one of my favorite resorts we've stayed in because the property is so nice. One of our favorite things to do is, after watching the sunset from the hotel, we go down to the adult pool to swim, sit in the hot tub and then lay on the lounge chairs as we listen to the surf and the piano music that someone plays every night from the hotel lobby. I love this hotel for so many reasons. This was our second stay. It's very relaxing. They treat you like royalty. Free slippers, robes. and thermal water bottles, with water refill stations located throughout the property. Free guest laundry with soap and dryer sheets provided, a huge convenience. Spacious lanai with table, chairs, and a square lounge sofa. The pounding surf of the beautiful private Hapuna beach to lull you to sleep. Spacious king room with sofa, table, desk and chair. Very comfortable beds, pillows, and towels. Free beach towels, chairs and umbrellas. A bidet! Beautiful Infinity pool for adults. Our housekeeper filled our ice bucket every day. Great restaurants and a spectacular breakfast buffet. Very friendly, helpful, and knowledgable staff. To me the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort is perfect. Very highly recommended! read more

We had a lovely stay at the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort. The property and location are beautiful. The beach is so soft and beautiful. You'll be greet with a lei and they give you water bottles to use. Our room was a good size, bed was so comfy, and the view was wonderful! All pools were gorgeous, only thing missing was a slide. We enjoyed a few meals on property and they were all good. I wish there was a market or coffee shop you could walk to, you kinda have to stay on property unless you're willing too drive to another shopping center. They do have shuttles that can take you to the Mauna Kea. We did a few cultural activities and they were great. I would def come back here. read more

The Westin Hapuna Beach Resort - Piko Cafe! - Hotels Near Me - Kohala Coast, Hawaii

Pros: Great looking view. Cons: Food, 3x what is in a major city (we're from LA). Food - NOT open past 9pm, room service stops at 10pm. Surrounding towns also close at 9pm, bars and all but the resort does NOT pick up the slack in that regard. Also, the food is TRULY bad. You'll be tipping 18% minimum on a $160 dollar meal (two pizzas and two beers) and that's IF you get there before 9pm. Pools (even adult ones) close at 10pm, beach is not conducive to walks and the front desk people disappear after 9pm. You'll rent a car and take day trips, but you better hit a grocery store early because you'll be cooking in your room (no microwaves...so tap water Raman?). All of this takes this hotel from a 4 star to a 2.5 or 3. I mean who would pay 800 + a night and not have decent food or the ability to get good food 24/7? Ugh...save your money and pick another place. read more

This resort is beautiful, the whole time I was at the resort I was saying to my friend that it looks like a dream. Upon entering the resort you are greeted with a panoramic view of the beach, drink, cold towel, and a lei . The amenities of this resort are awesome! There's a schedule of activities that include cultural activities, yoga, and koi fish feeding. Also, being a Westin hotel I rented out the hyper ice equipment when I got sore after a run. Not to mention, there's a in house laundry facility and included driving range access included in the room. On the beach there's a hut to rent equipment, I never got to use it because the wind. There's snorkeling equipment, paddle boards, and kayaks available. The highlight of my trip would be walking on the beach and enjoying the breath taking views. read more

Totally spoiled. The hubs went full baller and rented one of the new Hapuna Residences. It was a 3 bedroom beautiful condo with an amazing view of the beach/ocean. With that said, I wouldn't stay there again... 1) too expensive and 2) way too modern with no feeling of Hawaii in the decor other than the amazing views. The staff at Hapuna... Fantastic! Friendly... sociable and if they have time will totally talk story with you. The location.... southern neighbor to the Mauna Kea resort.... north of the Mauna Lani by about 15 minutes. I like the location because it's the only property there. I mean ... Mauna Kea... is "next door" but it's a bit of an effort to get there and their property does not interfere at all with Hapuna. Hapuna has a very large beach area. It's one of the nicest on the island. The beach in front of the hotel is a little jaunt down from the hotel. Keep in mind that the hotel is built on a little hill/bluff so... yes... you have to walk DOWN to the beach. There are some stairs. It's not totally unreasonable. My 76 yo mother did it and just took her time. The Hapuna guests have access to lounge chairs and umbrellas on the beach. However, this is first come, first serve. I'd suggest getting there by 10am if you want to grab one. Otherwise... wait until after 2pm and then they start to free up again. There are 2 pools... one adult only and the other is a family/kid pool. Both are excellent. The family one is right next to the pool grill restaurant so it's super convenient from that aspect. Also, quite a bit of loungers and seating around the family pool too. The adult pool as you might imagine doesn't have as much loung/seating space as the family one. Eating/Drinking.... we had a lovely time at all the places we tried. The pool grill is really good for a poolside grill. Yes... it has the customary hot dogs and chicken... but their fish sandwich is First Class ONO! Probably the best Fresh Catch sandwich we had all trip. The drinks are killer.... be careful there. lol The Meridia restaurant is superb. It's a definitely a "splurge" kind of dining experience. The setting can be very romantic for 2 people if you get a table for 2 that is in the "front of the patio" that overlooks the property, out towards the ocean at sunset. They have a small grab and go "market" type place near the coffee bar (Piko). Note, Piko turns into a cocktail bar after a certain point in the afternoon. The "market" has some fresh fruits, yogurts, sandwiches, etc.... that you can grab if you want something light and don't want to do a "sit down" dining experience. Worked great for us a few mornings when we just wanted a yogurt and muffin. They also have a water filling station at their "market" so bring your refillable bottles and load up for the day. You really can't go wrong at Hapuna.... the setting is picturesque, and the staff are all about Aloha. read more

Overall this was a nice property to stay at. Great view, atmosphere was very islandesqe, and while our room was officially partial ocean view, we thought it was fantastic. Most other places I have stayed that say that I end up having to contort myself to see a sliver of water. This was very much an ocean view from more than 2/3 of the balcony. I wished there were more places to eat because if you are there for the week and do not have a car, you probably would get bored with the food. While it is fine to good depending on what you order, it isn't elevated much from bar food. I did enjoy the hummus plate and smoothies, even after having it multiple times. Everything I ate tasted good and was generally portioned well. Good service staff was great! The hostess remembered our names and was so welcoming. My challenge was with the young staff who put off an air that they couldn't care less. Enough so that it distracted from the very good mature staff who were working their butts off. We had multiple times where the young staff were more interested in their phones and seemed bothered by your presence. One occasion I went back for towels four times and the young woman (like maybe 20) could hardly look up from her iPad to acknowledge I was there and did not have any suggestions for how to get the towels she was supposed to be handing out. Apparently they were in the wash...for two hours! Her suggestion was go to my room for towels. This is a big resort. My room was a distance! Thank god the couple next to us by the pool gave us the secret of going to the front desk. Then the next day when we paid for a reservation in a cabana, the young man (again like 20ish) just left the desk. He saw us coming but left anyway. We waited for a solid 20 minutes at the desk like the check in directions told us to do. We finally had to call and they said to just go to the cabana. Of course when our time was up, they were happy to promptly ask us to leave! Our time in the cabana was great and the snacks and such were good, but part of the experience was already subpar because of the start. At the price we paid for the property, I do not expect to see young workers bothered by my existence. I want prompt service and attentive staff. Put your phone away! These are places at a price point known for customer service. But if this is what future customer service is going to be like, why pay for the luxury if you won't get it?? We are nice, polite, and appreciating of service industry folks. We tip. We genuinely thank them. And on my vacation at this price point, I do not want to feel like I am bothering the staff to do the job they are paid to do. Older staff were great. Younger staff will drive away the clientele with this approach to their job that they get paid to do. read more

We had an amazing time! The resort is clean and everyone is friendly. We bought a Costco vacation package (about $3k, no flights) for four nights, which included the daily breakfast buffet-- my husband loved the made to order omelette station the most. The buffet helped because the food, like everyone has stated in other reviews, is so expensive there. Beach was perfect, no matter what time of day you went, you could always get a spot with the loungers and umbrella. Not crowded at all. The nightly shuttles to the sister property- Mauna Kea, was a huge plus! The restaurants at that resort was much better then the Westin. A unique plus was the Westin (in the market) they lend you a GoPro for $35 for 24 hours! Sadly, you can't extend it longer than that though.. I recommend on the day you go snorkeling! read more

Honestly, I've never felt compelled to leave a review like this. I've visited Hawaii multiple times at various resorts, but the staff here is incredibly rude and definitely not the welcoming, laid-back vibe I'm used to. The rooms are outdated, and the customer service is absolutely appalling. I've already paid for five more days, but I'm not particularly bothered. I'm going to check out and find a place that actually welcomes you with a smile and listens to you when you speak to them. Do yourself a favor and don't book here. The photos don't do this hotel justice! It is a stunning hotel. I am writing this review at the airport contemplating turning around and heading right back to the beach! We stayed here for 6 nights and loved every minute! First, the staff! Kind, courteous, always looking to help and going out of their way to make sure you feel comfortable and welcome. Second, the rooms are luxurious!! we got a premier ocean view room and loved the patio with a bed and bar table. We spent most of our time with the screen door open lounging with such a beautiful view! The rooms are spacious and definitely feel bigger than the pictures make them look. Third, the pools! there is an adult only pool and a "family" pool. The beach is walking distance and unfortunately ately when we went there was quite a strong rip current so we weren't in the water too much but man whattt a view! The life guards are attentive and will let you know what you can and can't do. Our son (he's 14) ventured into the ocean during a strong rip current to boogie board and did say it's a bit unnerving but he had a blast! The family pool get's a bit crowded at times so get there early to mark a lounge chair. Also it's a family pool so expect things to get loud and rowdy at times. Fourth, the restaurants. We did the breakfast at the hotel but honestly the piko lounge on the 7th floor has a great little breakfast with small bites. The spam musubi are awesome there and the pizza was our staple for about 4-5 days! Naupaka grill is awesome and we loved the service and the food. Everything we had was delicious. Lastly, the views. There are scenic spots EVERYWHERE in this hotel. Truly we loved every last moment at this hotel from the 7am Koi pond feeding, to the gym, we used the laundry room so no dirty laundry coming home with us. They also have cats that roam the grounds. They are very friendly and sweet. We loved this hotel. I do recommend you doing the Luau at their sister property next door at the Mauna Kea. it's only a 7 min drive and it's a wonderful show! Overall 3.5/5 stars for our visit. We came during the off season, so the stay was very quiet and there were not very many people on the resort. Rooms: We received an upgrade because of my partner's Marriott status. The room itself was clean and comfortable with a lovely view! Service: This was a mixed bag. Like others have stated, we encountered employees that were pleasant and others that seemed like they didn't want to be there. The front desk employees & concierge were great-- they even sent a bottle of champagne to our room since we were celebrating an anniversary. Our server at Meridia was also great and accommodating. However, the valets & pool staff were another story. On our last day there, my partner and I were taking photos of the view from an open cabana, and an employee rushed over and said "if you don't have a reservation you need to GET OUT." We totally understand & respect that policy, but instead, perhaps she could have politely informed us on how we can make a reservation? I just wish she had responded more appropriately instead of treating us like children when we're paying $900 a night. Location: A bit remote, no restaurants nearby. I was appalled at the lack of maintenance at this resort. For $800 a night I would expect to have comfortable beds and pillows. I mean this is a "Marriott ". The pool is under construction but nobody told us about it before our arrival The pool area was in disrepair with torn or peeling paint on the patio furniture. Then they charged $45 a day to park the car. There were no other options but valet. The pool restaurant was another disappointment. The prices were just outrageous for what we received. And if it was actually cooked to your specifications and arrive, hot or not. It was just a huge Disappointment over all. The one positive thing I have to say it was the main lobby as you enter was very beautiful and decorated for Christmas. I wish I had more nice things to say I am. This was one of the most perfect places we have ever stayed. Where do I start? The beach. It's huge, uncrowded with plenty of chairs and towels for everybody, included in your stay. The sand is soft and the water is warm. Generally pretty calm, not a surf break. Beautiful views, and isolated. Just stunning. The pools. A quiet, warm adult infinity pool with plenty of chairs and towels, and a hot tub attached. All of the pools and grounds are terraced with views of the ocean, so you never feel crowded. Constant food and beverage service if you need it. There is also a bigger kids/adults pool near the poolside grill, which is also perfect. The grounds are manicured, interesting and lush with lots of native plants, ducks, lizards and a few cute cats. Sun chairs are scattered about so if you want a semi-private hangout, it's there. The hotel is flawlessly maintained and during the entire stay I never saw anything dirty or out of place. Looks brand new every day. There are small sitting areas, a wood swing, and lots of places to hang out. We were welcomed with fresh juice and leis, and the desk, bell and valet service was perfect, with never a wait for anything. It's an open-air setup so you see the ocean and beach constantly. The style is modern, but with plenty of Hawaiian and koa wood accents. There is no bottled water provided, but there are filtered, chilled water stations everywhere, and metal bottles provided, and this is much, much better than using dozens of plastic bottles. There's a golf course, but we did not play. The room. Thanks to my amazing ambassador, Daniella Perez, we got an upgrade into a fantastic suite and a great welcome gift. Possibly my favorite hotel room ever. Great view of the ocean with a lanai with a table and chairs, and a couch/bed big enough to sleep on (which a member of our party did, enjoying the ocean sounds and breeze). A large living room with a comfortable couch/rollaway, dining table, wet bar with fridge, microwave and coffee. Large bathroom with a separate shower and bath, and 2 sinks. The only complaint I had was the lighting in the bathroom. It's all on a single switch on the outside of the room, so all of the lights are on - which is a lot in the middle of the night! Would prefer a softer option for a night light. The bed was huge and amazingly comfortable. You could open the blind for an ocean view, or black it out for sleep. Marriott's great TVs with streaming access in both rooms. I would have happily lived there forever. The houskeeping was amazing. Our room was perfectly prepared each day and they were so nice and welcoming. We asked for extra stuff and made a mess, and they took care of it all. We enjoyed all of the restaurants. Meridia was mostly great. The pool grill was perfect, and the breakfast was awesome. The platinum breakfast (free with status) was a huge selection of fruit, pastries, juices, granola, oatmeal, etc. We had a vegan who was accommodated with special requests like almond milk, etc. The full buffet had an omelet station, meats, eggs benedict, an asian selection with rice, fish and soup, and lots of fruits and juices. Pastries, toast, bagels, basically anything you would want. Service was excellent at all restaurants. What else can I say? We LOVED this place and will definitely return. read more

Westin Resort is absolutely gorgeous! Exquisite, open air, breathtaking views of the ocean throughout. We absolutely LOVED it!! Beach lovers, look no further! We visited many hotels + so happy we chose it.. Most gorgeous, longest stretch of white sand + 1 of our favorite beaches of all the Hawaiian Islands. Beach: Typically calm in am + more active later but not rough. Beach chairs w/ umbrellas fill up early but there are always chairs available + throughout this resort everywhere. Pools: Both adult + family pools are lovely + not busy. A plethora of towels provided. Ikena Landing: Ala carte breakfast is tasty. The strawberry papaya is out of this world! The buffet is not worth the $48 price tag. The views + ambiance is spectacular + the service we received from every server was stellar!!! Miramar was a complete joy + exemplary. Vannah was a delight, informed us about gluten-free options. Felipe was fantastic, ultra professional. Sylvia was a sweetheart + extremely kind. We so appreciated everyone! Our last day, the host was unfortunately extremely unprofessional + we opted to leave + order room service instead due to his poor behavior. Otherwise, we truly enjoyed Ikena. Only recommendation would be to create more tasteful gluten + dairy free options + keep guests informed. Upon asking, Cavaii in Concierge provided phenomenal care + arranged gluten dairy free blueberry pancakes one am which was fantastic. Meridia: Reviewed separately. View + ambiance gorgeous, food is tasty, fees higher than the fare value..Enjoyed Canoe House most + Brown's. Meridia worth a visit + more beautiful Manta. Sandra is a standout!! Napuka: Food here is good, not great, alike for room service. Overall, Westin can definitely improve all their food options, none of it was stellar or out of this world. We really enjoyed the Copper Bar + live music at Mauna Kea next door + found Hau Tree similar to Napuka. Reception: Kenji was the absolute HIGHLIGHT + provided the highest customer care we experienced at WHBR. What a gem he is!! Virgil was also very kind. Margarite in management provided helpful resolution to the upsetting issue we experienced at Ikena Landing our last day, gratitude to her for her service. Cabana Pool Desk: The team at this desk needs a major overhaul. Only one tall young man who was professional + reflected the Westin brand. We booked a cabana six weeks in advance to be told we were out of luck by young girl who was dismissive, unprofessional, has a very snotty attitude, one can sense she simply doesn't care for the guests. KC, manager of Napuka is an absolute earth angel + swooped in to remediate the situation, she was definitely the strongest leadership and highest caliber of true care we encountered. Makena, cabana manager, initially was quite snippy however, due to KC's involvement she quickly changed her position but expressed her displeasure a bit argumentatively to us relative to KC taking care of her team's mishap, which made us uncomfortable especially following several hours of not knowing the resolution of our booking. On our 2nd cabana rental, Kyle delivered 3 drinks instead of the 6 promised with the rental. When we requested the promised coconut water he said there wasn't any although we knew the bar upstairs has it, he finally brought us one can + took our two juices + one pellegrino back in return. Hence, we received 2 drinks out of the promised 6. We mentioned not frequenting canned added sugar juice but found it lacking tact he took them back with no replacement. We were so disappointed with the entire cabana team, we simply let it go. Westin 100% needs to rehire a new team. Valet: Jayson was an absolute pleasure + took exemplary care throughout our trip. The entire valet team was very professional, welcoming + helpful. Room: We had a premier ocean high floor room, the view was absolutely gorgeous!! Bedding was comfortable, the beach bags, water bottles provided were a wonderful accompaniment, filtered water is available throughout the resort + so appreciated. Constructive Feedback: Westin can improve upon providing details relative to surrounding walking paths on property. We planned to walk the trail between Mauna Kea Hotel + was told by several employees that it isn't safe + a few guests ended up in the hospital due to falls or jagged rocks, only those very familiar should take the trail. Hence, we opted to walk the golf path through the neighborhoods to the MK. Thankful we found out that information but some guests may not ask + simply go. We are definitely fit enough to handle, safety is paramount + online doesn't relay it's a dangerous path, it indicates it's pretty easy. We LOVED the Westin!!! Mostly everyone was so wonderful. Albeit guidance relative to the cabana team matters we will recommend it to others + definitely return on our next visit to Big Island! read more

If you plan on a relaxing, quiet, peaceful vacation DO NOT STAY HERE. Two nights out of five we were lied to about the noise children above us made. Promises were made to move the loud, obnoxious kids and parents to an alternative room. Jennifer (manager) lied to my face and made excuses for the bad behavior. Kids jumping off beds, running laps from end to end, and creating a miserable experience for all. No one wants to wake before the sun comes up due to other people's badly behaved children. When I booked the hotel I asked for a quiet, high floor room. I thought I was safe on 7 since there was only one floor above. Had it been disclosed children could behave like circus animals, I would have booked elsewhere, such as a Motel 6. It's easy enough for hotels to place kids in a family wing or on the bottom floors so others aren't terrorized by children who do not belong to them. This hotel has an adult pool and a kiddie pool so it seems the Westin understands some adults don't want to vacation with kids FOR A REASON. Just further proof the Westin has no concern for ALL paying guests prioritizing some over others for whatever reason. Last time I stay at any Westin/Marriott/Ritz property. Lots of options available and I will choose better next time. You have been warned. read more

Beautiful resort for all ages! Family-friendly, honeymooners, retirees - all kinds of nooks & crannies to escape to. If you can afford this place, because it is expensive, GO! The good: ~Their "Daily Resort Charge" (DRC)of $37+ is actually worth it. ~ Beach is right there! and DRC includes umbrellas & chairs on the beach (1st come, 1st serve; many guests claim their chairs early and go back to the resort :( One day, the guys who work this area, were kicking back on the lifeguard stand with their ukulele singing some good tunes - it was perfect! ~DRC includes plenty of "cold" water stations to refill your water - we saved so much on not having to purchase water bottles ~DRC includes complimentary laundry service; they even provide the detergent!! ~We had complimentary daily housekeeping service, and complimentary valet (I thought it was part of the DRC, but I don't see it on the list, so not sure) ~Urgent Care on site The bad: ~Restaurant selection is slim, and pricey (Continental breakfast is $30, but really good! Not your standard CB); Meridia is a splurge, but the setting and the food are fabulous; Naupaka (poolside restaurant) - food was average. Otherwise, you can drive to Waikoloa/15 min, Waimea/20 min, or Kawaihae/8 min. One day we picked up some food/drinks at Island Gourmet Market (at Queens Market Place), and took the food down to the beach with some towels and ice cups, and watched the sun set - best seat in the house! ~Not a major complaint, the a/c goes down to 65, but it doesn't feel like 65; can't get a real "cold" room Misc: ~Ginger at Ikena Landing (breakfast place), was such a delight! So fun to start your day off with her infectious positivity and humor. ~Tip: one of best places to watch the sunsets are the south-end balconies outside of the elevators! The resort is the most beautiful of the three hotels I stayed at during my vacation in Hawaii (Hilton Hawaiian Village, Westin, and Grand Wailea) IMO. It is honestly breathe taking and there are many wonderful things about this hotel. What isn't wonderful. We arrived at the time our room was supposed to be ready but it was not, we waited about an 1.5 hrs swinging on a chair on the top floor near the lobby then I checked and they said the room was ready. Mind you, I used my points for this whole stay and it was like 60k/night and we were there three nights. The room had been ready so we got the keys. Then we got to the room and everything was askew and a huge fan was on the ground. it was 704 which is one heck of a hike to the lobby. Then back to the room and waited for them to clean the room. I don't know if they were cleaning the floors, if someone yaked on the ground, had a BM - no clue. So we waited and they cleared everything out. I was not sure why the room was like this so I asked to be moved and they said they were booked solid but would try the next day and to speak with the manager. The next day, manager had no idea about this and no room. maybe it was because I was one of those people using points, no clue. So what would have been a 5/5 star was and remains a 3/5 star. The breakfast buffet was amazing and the grounds are spectacular. The breakfast buffet here is much better than the Mauna Kea next door in my option - but try both since the MK is getting renovated anyways and there are parrots there. The beach is among the best I have ever been to and it is empty! The adults only pool was amazing, not crowded at all and they had these wonderful water chairs to sit and read in.
