I had a procedure scheduled for the Tuesday after a Monday holiday. I had been on the…read moreschedule, waiting in pain, for two months. The Friday morning before the procedure, at 6:15 AM; i received a call telling me that they had not received the records from my previous physician and the Dr. Hellman did not know on which vertebrae to perform the procedure. They asked me to get the records from the previous physician or they would need to cancel my appointment and reschedule it another 2 months out (all because their employees did not follow through with their responsibilities within the appropriate time frame). I expressed concern that I would not be able to obtain anything they could not, especially at such a late date, the Friday before the holiday. I would have happily provided anything they requested had they let me know what they wanted when I had time to deliver it. Their mistake, the patient's problem to fix? How do you feel about doing work someone else is being paid to perform? The procedure was a nerve ablation, but nearly a month afterward, I am still having a great deal of pain in the same area. The procedure follow up appointment was attended by the nurse practitioner and not the doctor. I explained to her that I was still having pain and asked was there anything more they could do to reduce the pain. She told me that the doctor might be able to do a steroid shot or two, but that was all they could do. She said the doctor could perform the same procedure on my neck if I was having headaches but there was nothing more that could be done for my lumbar area. Not sure I'm eager to try new procedures with these folks at all! I DID NOT GET WHAT I PAID FOR and there is no consideration or accountability for wasting my time and money. I am retired, without Medicare, and my copay and coinsurance payment was about $500 dollars. I actually missed meals to pay for this procedure. I am still not able to do what I need to be able to do because of the pain. No referrals, no concern, no duty of care. They are too busy to care, and shouldn't be given the opportunity to try, On top of all that, despite paying what I owed up front, the patient portal is still showing my part as unpaid and owing more than a month after the procedure. Given what I had to do to cobble together my payment, that's an absolute slap in the face (again, someone do your damn job). A very nice receptionist in the front office kindly attempted to reach out to their billing department but was unable to get through to them. That receptionist earned the one star that Yelp requires me to give this practice!

She was provided with an iPad to sign in, but required assistance, which the two ladies present, Annie and Valencia, were unable to offer. My mother returned later with my son, who assisted her. I contacted your office to obtain the names of the receptionists involved and was told that Annie and Valencia were the staff members on duty. Annie mentioned that there were many patients waiting, which was inaccurate, as only two people were in the waiting room. Patients requiring medical attention may want to consider alternative options. The customer service provided was inadequate. Upon my mother's return, Valencia was too busy conversing to acknowledge her. They need customer service training and should probably find a different field to work in! 0 stars

I called the next day, Tuesday and the lady on the phone told me I would be able to come back without having to pay the co pay. I then called back saying I was too sick to make it that day. She then told me I would be able to visit the next morning, Wednesday also without paying the co pay. When I arrived Wednesday they had to get the manager on the phone and find the girl I talked to the other day. They then told me I misunderstood what she said and would still have to pay the co pay. I then walked out. Completely unprofessional.

Dr. Henke then tried to get me to purchase Advocare from his wife (who is not in the medical field) and gave me all of her information. The night before my surgery I just started to feel nervous about it, so I canceled and got three other opinions from orthopedic doctors who all said that the only reason I would need surgery was if my bones were not aligned, which they are. Therefore, the surgery was not necessary. Overall, he was very nice during my visit, but the whole experience made me feel a little taken advantage of and mistrusting of him and his practice.

He refused to perform a needed procedure in a medical facility he has rights to perform in because she "should be able to have it done in the office." His office staff is the most unprofessional staff I have EVER had the displeasure of doing business with in any medical professional capacity for my kid. Dr. Henke himself was rude, condescending, and treated my child poorly. Despite our initial distaste for him personally, we chose to continue scheduling a needed procedure because my kid was in pain. How wrong were we!?! His staff called to tell us Dr. Henke would ONLY perform the procedure on the 2nd floor despite it not being covered by our insurance because he refused to go to Seton (even though he has the ability) because my kid should be able to do the procedure in the office. I had already disclosed to him in great detail the reasons she was not able (and I am not listing here in order to maintain privacy) and I would be happy to provide whatever documentation necessary to convince him of her legitimate need, and ensure insurance coverage. Luckily, I record every call that comes into/out of my phone and have record of this because we will be following up with an Office of Civil Rights/ADA complaint. Alicia later called me and assured me she had in fact secured coverage on the 2nd floor and we were fine to proceed with having it done there. Well, Alicia is AWFUL. Think trying to do business with a teen valley girl with a wad of gum in her mouth the whole time you are talking. Coverage was not secured and the day before we were scheduled we received a call that WE would need to obtain a single case agreement and our insurance would not let their office obtain this. (Funny, other offices have obtained their own single case agreement. Thank you, Sage Recovery for your professionalism!) Single case agreement can only be obtained if there is a network deficiency. There is no deficiency here. Just a doctor who refuses to provide services to children with special needs because he himself has determined they "should be able to have it done in office bc it is such a small procedure." After all that, they offer to reschedule at Seton after all. At this point, no thanks! We have found a reasonable, compassionate, and professional podiatry office with Dr. Golf, who even though he performs minor procedures in a surgery center, is happy to go to Seton Southwest since it is in network, and has treated my kid and me with the utmost dignity and respect.
