We slept on the ground in sleeping bags. There were a lot of people making noise until about 12:30am, playing music, singing, talking and yelling. The showers were not great but fine for a campground. I went to bed around 2am when everything had died down. Around 7am, some banging started like there might be a shooting range nearby. In the morning, I explored the camping area and got some exercise. So much better than a hotel gym! I ran around, shot some hoops, and bounced on their "jumping pillow" which was exactly what I needed before a day of driving. And it was so much cheaper than a hotel room.

However, Son Rise blew the competition out of the water! From the moment we arrived we could tell Son Rise was a special place. Despite its size, they make every customer feel known, and important. The attention to detail is unparalleled! The docks are clean and very well kept, along with every other inch of the marina from the parking lot to the swimming pool. Son Rise offers many extra amenities such as: a community room with coffee available 42/7, beautiful, clean bathrooms and shower facilities, huge indoor heated storage, a large pool and a nice laundry room. The entire marina is gated making it very secure. Our family was extremely impressed with the friendly and kind attitudes of everyone at Son Rise. It obviously starts with the Manager, Tim, and trickles down through the staff and even the other customers. My daughter even mentioned that Son Rise was exactly like Disney World. It magically looks perfect- though you never actually see the effort that goes into maintaining it so well. Son Rise has set the bar for how all marinas should be! We will absolutely be back.

Checked out 2 other camp sites before choosing turtle creek. The reason we chose turtle creek is for a few reasons. The primitive camping is not smack dab right in the middle of campers and rvs like the other 2 were and turtle creek was much cleaner then the others and turtle creek was CHEAPER then the other two. Turtle creek has both flushing and non flushing toilets...both VERY clean and updated paint. They also have a washer and dryer to use along with a few fish cleaning station. The campers were quite after 10 like posted and long term campers were friendly to day campers. It is a pet friendly camp site as well. Very nice camp ground with friendly helpful staff. VYC is one of the oldest clubs in the area, I think its even pushing 80! Thankfully, it still looks great. The clubhouse is beautifully maintained and is a gorgeous event space. Some important things to note: there's no private pool or private restaurant at VYC, like most local area clubs. VYC is all about the quiet atmosphere, and its better that way. The indoor/outdoor seating areas of the clubhouse are great places to read, have a glass of wine and just enjoy the boats on the channel. VYC remains untouched by rowdy guests and excessive noise, which is a gem in itself. VYC embraces the vintage Commodore classiness of old-school Yacht Clubs. For guest docking, you can spend time at the VYC if your vessel is under 80 feet drawing 10 feet or less. Guests can have dock spots on the river wall or in temporarily vacant slips. If you're not a member, but looking for a charming town to dock and visit, definitely keep VYC on your shortlist!
