Horrible. This place should dissolve. Assaults, no real therapy (just 1 minute med reviews), and all 72 meals had to be thrown out because of my dietary restrictions they ignored. I was at this hospital very recently so I can say with confidence that this was the worst psychiatric hospital I've been to- I've been to three. The staff were exceptionally rude for no clear reason. There is a point system there-you use points to get rewards- and staff would take points away for simple human behaviors, like talking to someone not in your age group, accidentally touching someone else, or even things as simple as expressing things around the topic of how the staff suck ass. The rooms are disgusting, uncomfortable, and just plain bad. The beds are gym mats along side the BATHROOM DOOR, the walls have frost on them-you're only allowed two, very thin blankets- and they took away my carrots. They wouldn't let us talk about our hatred for the government and our joy of the semi recent death of Charlie Charlie Kirky(he just popped a perky). After I left, I soon realized that my wallet, my earbuds, and my portable camera.We contacted the hospital and were told that they did not have my stuff. We called back a week later to check again, but were then told that when they checked that they DID have it. After giving confirmation that we wanted it shipped, it took 1 and 1/2 weeks to get it delivered. Don't go here, it sucks. read more

20 minutes ago I tried to get into this facility to work for two months. I first submitted through a recruiter, they showed interest, then company would not return calls, emails to the recruiter. Next I applied directly to facility. Three different phone interviews made and all cancelled. I left multiple messages to get an orientation shift for the ShiftKey platform, again no return calls. I then applied again through recruiter. Showed initial interest, then wouldn't return calls or emails to him. When I finally got a call from hiring staff, an onsite interview was scheduled. Manager was very kind, interview went well, and was offered position immediately on site that day, and asked if I would consider management. I accepted a position on the floor, and would consider management once I worked there long enough to be comfortable. 8 days after I accepted position I received an email saying there were no longer interested in hiring me and they chose a different candidate. I made a corporate complaint in regards to the extremely unorganized hiring process and poor communication. I believe 100% that it is retaliation against me for the complaint. I did not seek further employment after interview as I accepted the position. I understand there was a fairly recent change in CNO and since then has been problems. There are multiple postings still online and with agencies for this position , so no, I don't believe they chose another candidate. I still truly believe retaliation for complaint. I made another corporate complaint in regards to my dealings with this facility in regards to most recent email received saying another candidate was chosen. This is by far the most unprofessional establishment I have communicated with in my nursing career of 25 years. I will never work there now, even if given that opportunity. I will tell everyone I know of this experience. I will be submitting this review on every online review platform I can find. You cannot mess with someone's livelihood this way. Clearly the leader in charge there is running this facility under. I will advise all of my professional peers I've met over the last 25 years of my nursing career to never apply for a job at harbor oaks hospital. I was up for 6 days and ended up at harbor oaks for a week and I'm shocked to see the bad reviews. And a star and Hal! No way I would give them 5 . Only because I can't give more . The staff was amazing g kind caring patient. The instructors that put useful group together like Amanda an art teacher that not only helped us through fun and interesting projects but she extremely smart she cares and gave me and some other people great advice . I hope I don't have to go there again but if it happens I would be happy too because they taught me a lot that works and is working. read more

The facility is both unsanitary and dangerously cold. Despite being a treatment center, there is no actual therapy provided; 'group sessions' are led by BHAs who just hand out endless school-like packets and worksheets. When I was admitted, patients were even forced to come up with their own coping mechanisms. I watched a friend's condition actively decline because staff would tell her to 'take a break' whenever she showed strong emotions, rather than offering actual support. The BHAs were consistently passive-aggressive, and medication was the only solution ever offered for any problem. At night, the rooms are so freezing that frost actually forms on the walls, yet we were strictly limited to only two blankets. read more

0 stars. Please choose another mental health hospital! The staff was horrific to my child. They took away the meal when child was locked in the calm room. They don't allow for meals after the scheduled time so my child was starving. The staff also chose to pull up my child's underwear to carry the kiddo and gave a complete weggie while dragging to get a shot. The lack of compassion they have is unreal. They don't care. It's borderline abuse! The only good staff was the charge nurse Christine. She was sweet, kind, compassionate and knowledgeable. Other than that, don't do this to your kid. It's abuse. read more

I recently took custody of my autistic teenage son who was abandoned at a hospital in Florida by his biological mother. He had frequent violent outbursts, had never been to therapy, and had very little medical treatment for years. While in the ER, a hospital social worker called Harbor Oaks in hopes that they would consider helping my son. The reviews for Harbor Oaks ranged between horrible and wonderful, so I would like to provide a detailed review of my experiences with Harbor Oaks Hospital in case other parents find themselves in my position. I noticed when we arrived at Harbor Oaks was that the staff were highly trained in how to interact with Autistic kids. My son had a meltdown as soon as we walked in the door, but staff reacted immediately and empathetically, calming him down within seconds. The two young women who came out to lead him to his room were amazing as he went with them willingly. As my wife and I left, one of the nurses (Nathan) took the time to reassure us that they will continue helping us through the whole journey, not just his inpatient stay. As I write this five weeks later, I can say that Nathan and the staff kept their word. Within a few days, I got a call from Dr. Ramen. I've seen several negative reviews concerning him, however I was thoroughly impressed. Dr. Ramen eliminated a redundant medication and suggested swapping another medication, which turned out to have significant positive effect. He took the time to listen to all I had to say, and spoke to me with empathy and respect, explaining each of his suggestions. When reading his notes last week, I noticed his account of our conversation was precise, indicating he listened intently. I have friends that don't even listen that well. A few days later, I received a call from their BCBA (autism specialist). I'm told she was instrumental in helping my son get into their program considering his unique circumstances. She was thorough in her questions and her evaluation of my son. I've spoken to her twice so far and each time I came away from the conversation reassured and hopeful. She offered to work with my son's school district and his pediatrician to connect all sources of support. And then there's Sarah, one of their social workers. Sarah reached out to every possible support (his school, our insurance, the health department, and a case management program that turned out to be a lifesaver). Sarah did more for my son in a week than the entire county of Lenawee did for him in a month. Words cannot express how thankful I am to her. And concerning my son, he is now interacting with other kids, he's less anxious, he twitches less, and he is now self-regulating his moods. The staff are not miracle workers (nor should anyone expect them to be), but in my son's case, they're damn close to it. We've visited him once and he was calm and content. My son was in a hopeless place, being abandoned by his mother and not even recognizing me or his siblings. Harbor Oaks may have saved his life. They saved ours. read more

My son was there for three weeks. Except for the first couple days no one would communicate any information with me when I called or call me back. Even when I picked him up, and asked to speak with someone I was told that I needed to call. I asked to speak to a manager of some sort, but she wouldn't come out. Eventually a nurse gave me essentially no information and said that I just needed to keep him going to his counselor. We waited in a hospital first for 5 days for a spot to open to get him in. The place was an extreme let down. Then a few days after we were home a sheriff called and said that my son witnessed a beating and they had questions about what he saw. I was taken there by ambulance after 2 days at McClaren after an intentional overdose/suicide attempt. I was severely depressed and now off my meds for 2+days and feeling it. I was talked to like I was there on some punishment, nothing caring or warm or kind...like someone might need at a very difficult time... I was brought up to the floor and shown my room and roommate. She was the only decent thing about the stay and she was crazier than me, just saying... -I wasn't given meds until I was there for 4 days, and they only gave me 1 of my 3 different pills and it was 20mgs less than it should've been. -My husband brought me my pillow from home that helps me breathe when I sleep, I never received it-only when I was leaving. -I saw a doctor once, he just went over a history with me, never said anything about how this was supposed to go or anything, never even asked me how I was feeling. +++I tried to kill myself, and the entire 6 days I was there NOT ONE PERSON asked me how I was feeling!!! +++ -I slept the entire time I was there, or tried to... I layed in the horrible "bed" and just cried and wished I was dead because they would not tell me when I was going home, and the phones didn't work for almost 3 days so I couldn't even talk to my family. -It was horrible, they did nothing, not one thing-to try to help me. -I helped myself-I found my own strength to try to go home and make things better. In fall of 2023, my husband was given antidepressants that made him homicidal. He ended up in this hospital for less than a week. He walked in, but left in a diaper, wheelchair, and was catatonic. He was extremely over-drugged and had to be admitted to a trauma hospital for three weeks to recover from the drugs. He was dehydrated, had severe neurological problems, along with liver, urinary, and other problems. He was mistreated and abused. Just horrible. read more

So I would not recommend this place for your child. They are not organize they lie to your face they treat them like they're in jail 10 minute phone call. Once they know in person visits they let you talk to a doctor, but then they don't even start him on the medication that they say that they are medication's. I ask for my son not to get they give the medicine he was supposed to get they wasn't giving any time he acted up they gave him shots. They gave him nine shots in a little bit over 24 hours. I don't see how they expect That to help any. This place is like outlast asylum.I had no consciousness during about 20 days of my stay due to psychosis. Around the last five days were all I know about.I was admitted here for a psychotic break and was essentially tortured here.I got diagnosed with bipolar& put on five meds.they called me bipolar because I was "disagreeable".I went off everything after a month or so out of the hospital by guidance of my doctor.I no longer want to kill myself after the harmful effects of these drugs but I have horrific PTSD.The nurses forced us to overeat. I gained 30lbs. The nurses threatened to extend my stay if i did not eat all the food given.I was 105lbs when admitted&135 when I got out. The nurses lied and reported me as being 120 on paper, but when they weighed me it read 135. One of them said " looks like 120 to me" and she grinned.she was a 50 year old woman with a blonde bob.she also went into a screaming fit denying me vegetarian food. The nurses are jealous of young female women or have some deep seated issues with them that they take out on patients here. They did not help me brush my hair while I was in psychosis and it was a huge rats nest when I got out. One nurse told me she would cut off all my hair for me if I needed help with it. ( I had long waist length platinum blonde hair).Marcos Yassa told me he would "add on days to my stay if I keep asking questions"He said this when I asked when I would leave and why I was given so many meds that caused shaking.malpractice.He did not perform a brain scan on an individual with unexplained psychosis despite having no history of mental illness or behavioral issues. One female nurse in the older adult ward opened the door on me when she knew I was showering and just stood there staring at me naked. She was old and had brown long hair. This lasted for about 30 sec.Then she left,keeping the door from the bathroom and out of my room WIDE open while men were walking by.They seen me naked.My psychiatrist promptly diagnosed me with "psychosis due to medical condition" it took one 30 min visit for him to properly diagnose me.I will be filling a suit against Marcos, kheir nagy and Maureen palazolo.I was suicidal due to the shaking and had to delay my graduation because I could not function or move without violently shaking.my doctor saved my life and realized what the drugs that they put me on were doing.I was a brain dead zombie when I got out.My mom had to brush my teeth for me.they mixed risperidone and invega(should NEVER be paired together).My primary care physician went through my file from this place and said that she was "grossly disturbed by the criminal negligence and over diagnosis given by that place". Marcos easily almost killed me with the drug concoction he put me on. Maureen Palazolo called my parents and told them that "I've been mentally Ill my whole life". I was not. Someone also made up in my medical notes that I "had never flushed my toilet at home" Maureen called my parents and told them I was a spoiled brat.She said I have "princess syndrome"no shit I thought jesus was talking to me?She also said I had an anxiety disorder and three other things.I have never been anxious or nervous.This was an excuse to put me on hard hitting tranquilizers. I was worried for months that I was pregnant from vague memories during my time here of r@pe by a blonde male patient.I reached out to recipient rights about this and was ignored. More criminal level negligence.To make matters worse,I looked this place up&MULTIPLE PEOPLE have been r@ped here before.One nurse pushed down on my invega shot as hard as she could, she was large.She was an African American woman with a bob&worked at the med counter in my ward. She may have been a trans man.The nurses &doctors that worked here are sadists, & disgusting people that need to be imprisoned. This place was a h3ll hole. Pure torture. read more

Our minor child was admitted to Harbor Oaks. We have had a few instances where we have dealt with Harbor Oaks and each instance has been a horrible experience that we hoped would get better (since several years had passed between experiences). It didn't. We will never deal with them again. If you are considering admitting your child (especially if it is on a Friday or over the weekend), DO NOT do it. Wait for a bed to open up somewhere else. Trust me, it will be worth the wait. Harbor Oaks does not provide group/individual therapy or social work services over the weekend to pediatrics (even though they will say they do). Our child spent 2 days coloring, socializing and watching TV while in crisis mode. The entire time she was there she was never given the chance to exercise or use the gym (even though the schedule will indicate otherwise). In addition, no one seems to know what anyone else is doing. We were fed misinformation and lies while our daughter was there and I have proof of that through her medical record. Once you discover the subpar treatment and the misinformation, you cannot get your child transferred to a different hospital and you cannot get your child discharged for up to 72 more hours. Finally, there was inspection taking place the day my daughter was discharged. The peds unit patients were informed of the inspection and watched as things that were not done there were all of a sudden changed and being done for the inspection. All of this has been so distressing that I have reached out to the patient's right advocate, local lawmakers, the Bureau of Survey & Certification that takes hospital complaints (800-885-6006), and the Joint Commission (submit complaints on their website) in hopes that something can be done about this hospital. When people are in crisis and searching for mental health help, Harbor Oaks should not be an option. read more

I was admitted from Chelsea hospital in Chelsea Michigan to Harbor Oaks, New Baltimore because my daughter made a welfare check on me while I was camping in the Chelsea area. I woke up in the morning to greet two police officers and four med-techs. I went willingly to Chelsea because I thought it was a misunderstanding and would be released that day. Chelsea should never have admitted me since they did not have the staff to evaluate me. Next thing, I am on my way to Harbor Oaks (HO) because Chelsea hospital had no psychiatrist. As soon as I was at HO, the psychiatrist at HO threatened to take me to court, keep me 30 days, if I did not sign a "voluntary admission" form. He only spent five minutes with me and declared I was bipolar, schizophrenic, etc. I had to have his assistant interpret his speech to me because he was from Iraq, (he stated) and I could not understand his mumblings. He was mean and demeaning. (I am a retired professor with a Ph.D. and spent 40 years teaching), This was a total disaster. Although there were some nice staff, many others were prejudicial in my opinion, no sleep, crappy crappy food, medications were messed up, daily verbal and almost physical fights (I am 73) among patients, no significant time with doctors, and the social worker was three days late in calling my family so a report could be submitted. The excuse was given that she was part-time, contingent, overworked, etc. I filed several Michigan Patient Rights violations while at HO. Finally, the PA of the doctor got the report and I was released after 7 days and nights in HELL. AVOID THIS HOSPITAL. It took me three days to get someone to remove the ankle monitor from my foot as it was cutting into my skin. I would include a photo but it is gross with an infection while I treat it with antibiotics. HO never got my medications for pain, etc. correct before I was discharged. AVOID THIS PLACE. read more

Just wow. My daughter is a patient there. Second time. This place is not organized. When we dropped her off we weren't informed of the list of approved numbers she can have for her daily home call, so they can only call my wife's line. The first time she was there, we were supposed to have a zoom call at a scheduled time. I had to work during that time, but my wife came up to my job at the time so I could see my daughter. No call came at this time and I had to hurry back to work because I only asked for a 15 minute unscheduled break. The call came about an hour later. This time she had a zoom call scheduled for 4pm. We made sure everyone was ready at 345, waited until 4:17. No call came in by then. My wife Calle them, the call got disconnected somehow. Called back and was told the zoom call needed to be rescheduled. So if we didn't call, we would've still been waiting? There's more but that's my biggest issue. read more

My son stayed inpatient for a week there. Because he has ASD, we were told that he had to wait for a facility that has the means and training to support kids on the spectrum. There was no in-person visitation throughout his stay. I have no idea how a depressed kid on the spectrum is supposed to get better when you have completely separated them from everything they know. We had hardly any communication throughout his stay. I spoke with the psychiatrist once, on the second or third day and he got a brief history of his behaviors and meds. No one asked me what works at home, or of there are any things that tend to trigger behavior. My 9 year old didn't go to bed until 10 pm and watched at least 3 hours of Youtube/movies a day, including violent shows and movies like Black Adam, Five Nights at Freddy's and Fortnite. I get that some parents let their kids watch these shows, but no one in a mental hospital needs to be watching these things as they are in acute recovery. There was no discharge planning. The social worker I spoke with had no ideas for a step down program due to his age and asked if I had heard of this great website called "Psychology Today" - ugh! Overall, they didn't teach him any new skills and all they did was make a minor adjustment to a med he was already on. Now his psychiatrist and I are trying to figure out how to make a major med adjustment at home- the whole point of going in the hospital in the first place. I know that there are minimal beds available for kids, but I would wait in the ER an extra day or two to get into a better facility if we ever need to do this again. when I was there just a few days ago I was given food that did not meet my dietary requirements I was also given moldy food. At some point 8 kids threw up from the food being so disgusting but them starving and needing to eat. I stayed for 9 days and was starving the whole time. they threatened to sue my parents if I didn't participate. they yelled at me for using coping skills. they neglected me when my arms and legs went totally numb and I couldn't feel them. they refused to let people leave if they denied eating the moldy food. one girl had her dad bring the cops to forcefully remove her from the setting. this place is a hell hole that lies straight to your parents faces. do not send anyone you love or anyone you hate to this place. I met a girl there who lost over 20lbs in 5 days due to the food. if you want to be treated like you are a human do not come here. they had a 10 year old there when I was there and she starved for so long she fainted. if someone you know if here get ready to sue this place and call the health department. The mental health care is not what they claim. It's not helpful and most people leave this place with ptsd or in my situation ready to go back to juvie just to fight for everyone's rights. They staff have encouraged suicide and self harm and should have their jobs revoked. If you love anyone in this world do not send them here. My grown child is in this "hospital". All I can say is WOW! Let me explain. Communication with patient's parents even with a signed ROI form (release of information form) = nonexistent! ZERO! Even though my kid asking several times for them to contact me... They never did! I read the Mich Mental Health Patient's Rights booklet and that's a violation. My kid has been there 11 days and for the past 3-4 days he has been very grounded...and NOW arrogant doctor is taking off all previous meds and starting new ones! That is very disruptive. This place is dangerous and does not want you to be involved with your child's recovery and could care less about your insights. STAY AWAY if you can...And if you have no choice in the matter keep a close eye on them and how they treat your loved one...Kick up your heals if you must. Oh and the one star is false. After 24 hours in er I arrived. Apon arrival at 2am by ambulance (2 hour drive), i filled out all the paperwork and was all ready to go. The admission girl declined my entry because a piece of paper (now invaled because i all ready signed voultary) was not timed.so i had to be returned to the origanal hospital by ambulace to have a time put on a paper, fax was not good enough. Got loaded into a new ambulance and made the long drive back. Arrived at 6am on the 12-6-19. The intake person was a compleat spaz. 97% of my intake was left undone. They showed me my bed and that was all. shift change was at 7am and it was to much work to be done in a hour. I seen the phyc doc at 7am. He talked to me for about 3 min then increased the meds i was already on. Art class was at 11am. at noon another person started my intake papers. It was a forien lady with heavy accent, she didnt say much asked a few short questions and said i was done. Social work group was after lunch, a lady reading of a paper and trying to get a disscusion going. There was no more groups. The medical doctor arrived at 9pm. Seen me for about 3min and just went with the meds i came in with.most were very expensive so he just had them use the meds i came in with. And would be started in the morining. I had refused all food Day 2 Vitals were done around 6:30am Seen phyc dr 3min or less at 7am. Diffrent one from the day before. Social work group after lunch same lady reading a paper trying to get a chat going. The was nothing the rest of the day. They refused my insalin so Again i refused all food. Day 3 Was the same a day 2. And again refused all food and they declined my insulain. The paper my husband got from main hospital said it was visit day. I was super excited. He called could not get anyone on the phone. He drove the 2 hours with the paper. They refused to let him see me as they had changed the sechudel and the was no staff to get me. Day 4 Vitals around 6:30am Phyc dr 3min or less. Art at 11am. Same social work group. No more groups for the day. Again insulan was refused and i refused all food. Husbaned called again still could not get anyone on the phone. Day 5 Seen phyc dr 3min or less 7am Vitals done around 8:30. Ate breakfast they refused insulan. Art at 11am Ate Lunch they refused insulan. Social work group was the same. No more groups Husband called still could not speak to anyone. Ate dinner finally got insulain. Day 6 Vitals done around 6:45am Seen phyc doc 7am 3 min or less asked to go home. Was told no could go home tommorow at 10am. Asked why i couldnt go today. No response. Ate breafast got insualin. Was complaining to staff about not going home as a social work lady waked by. Asked my name imformed me i could leave at 10am. Asked my address, phone number and if i had after care. I called my husband to pick me up. He arrived 2 hours later. Staff was still working on my INTAKE paper work as well as discharge.Forin lady had me sign a few papers didnt say anything other then sign this. No one called my husband, no one went over discharge or meds. Nothing. Handed me a red folder full of half done papers and gave me my stuff back walked me down to the lobby and away i went. Worst place i have ever been. I went on a 5 day hunger strike. Only see docs for less the 12min over the course of 6days.no one contacted my husband or could pickup a phone. Did not finish intake or duscharge paperwork. Very disorganized. Only 2 groups On week days, nothing on weekend. read more

My daughter is currently a patient there. She was released from the McLaren hospital after being hit by a car she was diagnosed with a brain bleed that the Doctor felt would clear up on it's own. She called me to tell me half her face was paralyzed. I Called spoke with the Charge Nurse Dina Rude woman I explained the situation and her head injury and said it was presenting as a neurological issue why I knew this and she didn't is beyond me. They refused to do anything or call 911 for my daughter. I called McLaren and they advised me to call 911 get her to the nearest hospital for a stroke exam and CT. I called spoke with Dina again she told me the Doctor and there was No Issue. I spoke with my kid the Doctor gave her a shot of Toradol and called it good. Half her face is paralyzed. SO I called 911 they told me the Hospital would not them or the Police in and because it was a hospital there was nothing they could do. They are refusing my daughter proper medical treatment for a serious head issue. The Nurse Dina is condescending rude and a down right B**CH!! my next step is my attorney GOD HELP THIS PLACE IF MY DAUGHTER HAS ANY IRREPERABLE DAMAGE DONE AND THEY CHOSE TO IGNORE IT AND REFUSED TO HAVE A NEUROLOGICAL DOCTOR LOOK AT IT!!!!! This was by far one of the worst buildings/staff/organized treatment facilities I have ever been too. Was administratively discharged due to a vape that they did not search well enough to find. Thanks for that, here for benzos and a vape I didn't even use cost me more than they will ever know. They allowed multiple patients to nearly cry in pain without so much as a Tylenol unless you waited until 5pm for a doctors order for it. I was here for about 10 days in 2017. I watched an elderly man in urine soaked pants slip on those pants and fall. An orderly saw and turns her back sneering- he does this to himself. When I don't see him the next day I worry. I hear someone in the men's side trying to wake him up and the same orderly tell the others that the man is being unresponsive on purpose. When I saw the old man at lunch his arm was doubled in size and purple. I saw him have difficulty walking earlier in the day. His eye was swollen and was cut and bleeding. He kept dozing off while trying to eat. I sat with him and tapped the table occasionally to wake him up. I called 911, I couldn't find a nurse to talk to the person on the phone so I gave them a description of him and hung up. He flipped me off the first day I was there. I hope he's ok. Please don't bring your loved ones here and leave them. It's criminal. read more

Quick note: when I refer to adolescent(s), I am meaning ages 13-17, not children.) My review on google 2 months ago was deleted. Here it is copy and pasted, also edited a bit. I was a patient at Harbor Oaks Hospital many times in the adolescent (pediatric) section. Your personal freedom here is pretty much deprived, as it is in most places. You have limited access to your clothes, hygiene material, books, anything used to help or regulate yourself. Try to bring PG books, they won't be hesitant to take away any 'graphic' material (non-gut-churning material such as Stephen King is not allowed, neither are books on psychology/mental health, or books with tragedy (drug addiction, mental health crisis, suicide, etc) as it is assumed other patients will read your materials. If lucky, the nurses/behavioral techs will take pity on your situation and let you have some of your 'graphic' books and the like. Anyway, Harbor Oaks. Not the best hospital. Treatment is less than mediocre or adequate. No interacting with the opposite sex, which I can understand, although they don't stop children from butting into a situation such as phone calls, a personal matter with the nurses/behavioral techs, or whatever. Children, if not enough beds on their side, will be housed on the teen girls' side. Not the best choice. They will put transgenders on whichever side their sex at birth is. No LGBT rights whatsoever yet they won't stop patients from telling you graphic details of their sexual assault/abuse. Being abused is a horrible thing and to be dealing with that, and have someone whom you've first met tell you their graphic details of abuse, is not something I enjoyed, and I wouldn't expect anyone to enjoy this either. The interaction with the same sex is not monitored. The food is not terrible, although what they promise for dinner is the opposite you receive. For example, if they promise cookies/cake/brownies, you may get gelatin or something of that sort. The social worker, Eva, is inadequate and treats her adolescent patients like they are children. There are groups 2-4 times a day, and you will be frequently bored, no matter what they tell you. There is rarely treatment that addresses destructive behaviors or any other disorder besides clinical depression/persistent depressive disorder. If that is your issue, go to this hospital. If you struggle with something more complex, such as childhood abuse, destructive behaviors, eating disorders, personality disorders, etcetera, spend your money someplace else. They'll dope you up to as far as 600 m.g, morphing you into a zombie. You get no say in your aftercare or treatment in general. The average stay here, from what I remember, is 5-9 days. Sometimes longer, sometimes shorter. The shortest I saw someone stay was 3-4 days, the longest, 13. It depends on your behavior and why you're there in the first place. The psychiatrist, Dr. Sanjeev Venkataraman, (Dr. Raman, for short) can be pretty empty and fail to explain why you need a certain medication or give you an estimate for your discharge date. Like most treatment facilities, more often than not, you will gain weight. The staff and psychiatrists will not care; you will be punished for not eating. Your discharge date will likely be on a weekday. The psychiatrists rarely work on weekends. The groups range from rec. therapy (walking/exercising mindlessly in the adult gym for about an hour, making bracelets), and others. I cannot recall, as they were unimportant then and still unimportant now as I fail to remember them or their contents. The majority of adolescents were there for suicidal ideation. I wouldn't recommend sending your adolescent child here for substance abuse, as I recall, you are unable to mention anything related to addiction whatsoever. Send them to a therapist. Teen rehabs are disgusting and used for clout. I don't know if Harbor Oaks made me worse in terms of suicidal ideation and destructive behaviors, though I know because of this facility and others, I've gained weight. This has sent my self-esteem to an all-time low. There have been reports of child abuse throughout this facility. I never saw or heard of anything like that whilst I was there multiple times. Only after it'd been months after I left the most recent time I'd been there did I hear about a young child being slammed to the floor and getting a concussion. Visitation times are, from what I recall, 3-5 times a week. Phone calls twice a day, ten minutes. Parents choose your contact list. Only immediate family. As I mentioned you get no say in your aftercare and will likely be sent to a New Oakland Face to Face location. This program, in particular, is pretty gross and please advocate for your rights. Tell your parents not to send you. Try to talk to your child before sending them away. Sending them to a treatment facility such as Harbor Oaks may make them worse. Do your research, don't believe everything you hear. read more

I would not suggest this hospital for treatment , when I was in here everyone was sick and I got pinkeye from someone in here like the day before I left , not to mention the fact that I was in here for 8 days and I didn't see the doctor til my 7th day . read more

do not come here. i was in the E.R. for 2 nights 3 days. got strapped to a stretcher and when on my way for 2 hours. when i got there they put me in this room with paramedics and left us there for about 20 minutes (at least that's what it felt like). they put a tracker on my ankle and checked me for anything on me. they checked my feet but not my shoes. could've easily hid something dangerous in there. they took my luggage and told me to sit down. (this was the girls youth unit remind you). there were no digital clocks, only a regular one. AND it was off-time. they didn't show me my room or show me how things worked in general. it was apparently nap time but i didn't know because they obviously didn't tell me. for dinner we had Southsberry steak and it had the texture and smell AND taste of literal cat food.there was a boy in the girls unit (trans FTM) but never was put in the boys unit yet there was a girl there (trans MTF) that was still called by her deadname. there is so so much more but there is too much to remember. Your mission statement and their service delivery do not line up. Light, Hope and Compassion? Where is compassion in leaving a child struggling with mental health issues cut off from communication? It's illegal but also inhumane. Philosophy: In your philosophy, you state you employ best practices. Can you tell me where best practice is to deny access to communication? A holistic approach? Except from the social/communication piece. If interaction were not critical, your patients would be in isolation from 6 pm to 8 am. Respect and empathy for each patient? Not for your Deaf Blind patient you just released without a concrete plan in place, after denying her interpreting access for substantially more than half of her stay. Recognize the importance of family and peers in the process of recovery? Where was this demonstrated for this child you released? I am assuming when planning your evidence based treatment employing best practices you did not consult with any experts in the field of Mental Health. Vision: "... by providing care to each patient as if they were a member of our own family." If this is how you treat your family, then you are neglectful. Mission Respecting the dignity, comfort, and privacy of each patient Providing individualized care via an interdisciplinary team that values the consistency of treatment and unity of purpose Affording all patients and their families with a professional, caring, and safe environment Providing clinical and safety standards in order to ensure the highest quality of patient care Do you think a child isolated from language and communication feels dignified and comfortable? Is communicating with her in the way you treat a NON Deaf-Blind patient individualized? Do you think she or her family felt she was safe? How would she communicate to you how she is feeling if you do not have an interpreter present? Values Integrity - We make decisions that consistently benefit the organization without regard to personal objectives or agenda. We follow through with our word and are honorable with our actions as a unified team. Compassion - We take action to relieve the physical and emotional distress of others. You finally got one right! It is clear here, your values were to benefit the organization - not the patient. Your actions are anything but honourable. You created physical and emotional distress of not only your patient and her family, but additionally the community around her. To Whom It May Concern: I am writing on behalf of a current patient of yours, I am his medical POA and Advance Directive. He has sought help at your facility and was quite excited about it since he would be seeing Dr. Vervaeke. He was admitted on Wednesday 11/2/16 and has had problems since the date he was admitted. First off, he had an appointment, he was NOT a walk in and we had to wait for 5-6 for him to be seen which is completely unacceptable for someone who is seeking help with substance abuse and mental health. Some of the problems that have occurred are listed below: * Patient has a hard time identifying and distinguishing staff from one another. * I live far away and cannot physically drop off some medical records the doctor wanted to see, there is no email that they can be emailed to so I was told, I was given a fax that I tried for an hour and that was busy, when finally after much effort and time, I was given a different fax number to get the info through... this is ridiculous that I cannot even get something as simple as medical records faxed/emailed over without an issue. Even on the patients grievance form, there is no way other than mail or physical drop off to get this complaint through. * Any time I have dropped something off at the front desk for the patient it has taken 6+ hours to get to him. This is completely unacceptable. * I have tried calling the patient on the patient line given and it consistently rings with no answer and if I call the nurses station they are very rude and say well people must have been on the phone or not near it, they make no attempt to help me reach the patient * I have called many times to speak with someone regarding these concerns but I, as well as other patients family members have been told when calling in a nutshell there is no chain of command, no one knows who is in charge. How is this even possible?? * The patient at hand is in a room with 3 other people, he and another roommate are both war veterans with PTSD and the staff put a patient in the room who continuously triggered alarms on his wheelchair. This happening in the middle of the night and the alarm waking combat veterans with PTSD is completely unacceptable and a hindrance to their well being and recovery. Not to mention a "hospital" with trained and experienced staff should have known better. Both patients brought this issue up to not only a social worker but also several nurses and nothing was done. I was there when this was brought up to the social worker and the patients were assured something would be done, only to find out 6 hours later that nothing was done! Why are nurses and other staff ignoring concerns from the patient? These men have been through a lot and have "Asked For Help" which most people do not do and they even voice their concerns for further help in their recovery, only to be ignored by the staff. This is disgusting and unacceptable, if staff does not care about patients well being, then they should not be working there let alone in that industry. * The man that was put into this room with these patients, could not speak or form a sentence, continuously would try to get out of his wheel chair only to set off an alarm and fall over, was suffering from both urinary and bowel incontinence and should have never been medically cleared to go to a substance abuse facility. A patient such as this should be in an ER until they are medically cleared for a facility other than a medical hospital! Not to mention the incontinence with no air flow or open windows makes for a completely awful living situation for the patients. If this situation was occurring in someone's private home, social services most likely would be involved but for some reason this facility can get away with it even after the requests to have this man moved especially since there were open rooms. After many complaints, phone calls, and worry from the family members , this patient was moved but moved to another room with other patients. He should be in his own room with no one else given the physical conditions, there were other rooms open, I did check. * The facility has 8 men sharing one bathroom, what kind of treatment is this for people who are trying to get better. * The facility is dirty, stinks, there is no airflow, etc. No wonder no phones or cameras are allowed back, you wouldn't want any evidence of the disgusting living conditions these patients are being put through, while you bill their insurance thousands of dollars for their "well-being" and stay.
