Britain's first warship with an all-metal hull, the HMS Warrior (1860) is a beautifully…read morepreserved/restored premium attraction, a must-see for anyone even remotely interested in the history of ship-building, and the wars that these ships fought in. It is part of the tremendous "Portsmouth Historic Dockyard" experience (It also includes the HMS Victory, the HMS M.33 and the WWII submarine HMS Alliance, plus several museums) which offers at least a couple of days worth of exciting sight-seeing for adults as much as more the smaller fry. First things first: If you want to do all of the Portsmouth Harbour attractions in one day (better make it the full day, i.e. 10 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. in the summer and to 5 p.m. in the winter), make sure to book the "all attractions" ticket *ONLINE*, which will save you money: E.g. the single adult ticket costs UKP 32.00 on the door, but just 25.60 online. The HMS Warrior as an individual attraction alone costs UKP 18.00. While not as famous as Nelson's HMS Victory, the Warrior is a tremendously imposing ship physically, and full of exciting details to explore. The whole body of the ship is fitted with historic cannons, cabin furniture, hammocks, tables, plates used by the sailors of the time, etc etc. It really conveys convincingly how both the officers and, in particular, the rank and file on this ship lived and worked at the time. It's thrilling, sometimes disturbing to see tables with plates next to the cannons, next to the hammocks - eating, sleeping, fighting and dying in one and the same place. There are cabins for the officers, a map room. You can visit all the decks (be careful on those steep steps between the decks - it's almost inconceivable how sailors were supposed to run up and down those!) and photography is allowed everywhere in the ship. Since the lighting is much less low-key than on the HMS Victory you'll be able to make decent pictures even with smartphone and super zoom cameras. If you have any questions while you're exploring the vessel, there are several friendly guides on every deck who you can ask anything. Of course they're friendlier towards single ladies than to single guys. ;) Since HMS Warrior s only part of a large visitors' experience, if you're exhausted or hungry from your exploits there are several restaurants and cafés (sadly, no pub!) on the grounds of the dockyard nearby. Directly opposite of the Warrior you'll find the quay where the Harbour Cruise and the free boat ride to the HMS Alliance depart (included in the all attractions ticket). All in all this is a most exciting and intriguing tourist and historical attraction. Expect to spend 1-1.5 hours on the HMS Warrior alone.

From the African Hunting Dogs on the shores of the Zoo to the notches in the bridges from ropes once used to pull the boats, Mike knew about it all and had great stories to go along with it. The rate he charges for a private two person tour is incredibly reasonable. If big crowds aren't your cup of tea I highly recommend this tour. I imagine larger tours would be fine too - but the personalized attention and spacious accommodation was perfect for us. Bravo Mike - on our short trip to London we only did one "tourist"-y thing and it was your trip, and we couldn't have made a better choice. It was beautiful, educational, fun, and extremely memorable.

The people who run the boats are very friendly, we left on time, and the trip was great! However, I think a commentary ( live, or recorded) would be beneficial. A lot of people had questions about the wind farm , which luckily my partner had a bit of knowledge so could chat about them, and the proposal to enlarge it. Also it would be good to actually serve drinks rather than just advertise them. After all, it's a 2 hour round trip. I think you are missing a trick Rossboats !

I would recommend bringing layers in case it gets chilly or windy. The best time to go would be Spring/Summer in London! Crowd levels and overall atmosphere - The seating on this cruise is ample. But there are so many tourists that I remember waiting in line for a while to actually get on the boat. There is high energy amongst the crowd as London is a multicultural city that attracts folks from all over. Cruise route highlights - I believe I grabbed this cruise at the Tower of London stop and it goes on the River Thames. Great view of it. Try to sit on the edge by the side of the boat if possible. I sat on the top level (it is a two level boat) which was good for views also. Don't get stuck behind the middle cabin of the boat. Onboard amenities - Apparently there is a bar on board but I never tried it; not sure about restrooms either. Tour guide quality - knowledge, engagement, and narration is decent. Value for price - worth the cost!

As there was not much difference in price he opted to book us on the 2 hour trip. Below decks there's a bar/tearoom and toilets. Most people opted to sit on the top deck. This has plastic seating in the first 5 rows and the back rows have padded seats. Although it was a sunny day, it was cold whilst we were sailing - had I known we were going to do a river trip I wouldn't have worn a sun dress as I got quite cold! It was a pleasant trip. Commentary was via a pre-recorded cd talking about the sights and history to be seen along the bankside and it's quite fascinating to see all the lovely houses on the waters' edge. We asked for tea and cakes which was brought to us by the Captain's 'mate' a pleasant young lady with hair dyed green! It was an enjoyable trip aside from the fact that I'd taken my 5 year old granddaughter for whom the trip was just too long. She enjoyed going through the Bray Lock gates but at that age they don't understand the incredible engineering and history behind it. I would definitely recommend a river cruise if you want a relaxing afternoon but do take a blanket or some warm clothes!

The cruise allowed different close up angles that are unattainable from land. The most notable landmark is the legendary London Eye, but also the main three landmark bridges: London Bridge, Tower Bridge and the Hungerford Bridge. The London Bridge is set just past the Hungerford Bridge and was much smaller than I thought and did not live up to it's expectation. For those who yearn for incredible pictures then this cruise is for you. It really doesnt matter which boat you take as long as you are on the Thames River. Expect the dark murky water indicitive of rivers.
