Sea Pines and Harbour Town have so much to offer everyone: golf, biking, walking trails, views, dining and shopping. We came for the preserve paths which was a beautiful walk through well maintained trails, viewing lakes, forests, shell rings, and peaceful way to enjoy an afternoon. We didn't mind the $9 fee as you could exit and enter all day, and most state parks where we like charge at least $5 for a lot less activities. We are glad we enjoyed an unhurried day! read more

FYI it costs $9 to get into the area if you want to visit Harbour Town itself, explore the shops, dine at the restaurants, walk the beautiful preserves, or visit the iconic Salty Dog Cafe, which is a huge part of the dock on the lower east side of the area. Even if you have a tee time at the famous Harbour Town Golf Links, you still need to enter Sea Pines Community and pay the fee - something to keep in mind if you're planning a golf trip or just want to explore.   Had we known, we would've saved some time and combined our exploration with our tee time, rather than doing it all in one day. You can generally explore Harbour Town and the surrounding Sea Pines area within 2-5 hours, depending on what you want to do, whether it's shopping at the Harbour Town Lighthouse Shops, grabbing a bite at the Oyster Reef or the Quarterdeck, taking photos of the iconic Harbour Town Lighthouse, or just strolling around to soak in the vibe. Notable spots to check out include the Harbour Town Lighthouse, which offers great views of the marina and beyond, and the Calibogue Sound. The crazy crab is a must-visit for iconic coastal dining. Also, the Harbour Town Marina is perfect for watching boats and enjoying the waterfront scenery. A fun place to visit while staying in Hilton Head. We came to Harbour Town on National Lighthouse Day! Lots of fun things to do...water sports, boat outings, going to the top of the lighthouse, shopping, eating, and checking out the beautiful golf course (currently closed - August 2025). They even have a cool playground for kiddos. It does cost $9 to enter the Sea Pines area which is in between the rest of HHI and Harbour Town and does get quite busy with limited parking. We arrived around 10:30/11 and parking was limited at that time on a Thursday. read more

If you're coming here for lunch, then I suppose the Quarterdeck restaurant would be the best bang for your buck -- the views over the harbor are awesome, like 270 degrees worth, on three levels (can't say more as I haven't eaten there). But Harbor Town as a destination? I don't know - a couple of generic beach-y type shops, boutiques and markets, a restaurant or two, a marina, a privately-owned lighthouse that you can climb 100 steps to the top of for a $7 fee, and a pier. That's pretty much it in a nutshell. You could probably breeze through the cluster in an hour or so (unless you're eating), so it's up to you to decide if you wanna pay the $9 'Sea Pines resort' shakedown fee to get to this part of the island, which from what could tell seems like all rentals and golfing developments. If this review was based on my first visit to Harbour Town it would probably be a few stars higher but I've been here before and although it's been years it's got the same vibe and seems to be timeless as in it appears that nothing has changed except for the price of admission. Bring your flip-flops so you can experience the beach, you'll look cooler because there are already way to many black sock and rock-ports looks here. The majority of the folks here are tourist I'd say although if you live in Sea Pines your trips here are free so "those locals" hang here too. I don't consider this a full day trip, after seeing the lighthouse and some nice boats and doing a little window shopping you probably will have seen enough and it will be time to move on. I don't ever remember this being on my bucket list, it's more of a "been there done that" kinda place for me although it's seems that many seem to be in awe after reading their reviews... read more

$9 entrance fee, then you drive around and around and around because they took a lot of parking for valet. So I ended up paying $20 for valet that is not close to anything. Very disappointed!! read more

I come here usually during our summer vacations and eat and shop and take in the views. I came here for the first time during winter with my dog since is wasn't hot and the dog friendly reviews. Other than the Cinnamon Bear Shop, I was met with not niceness when they saw I had a dog and they were not nice or helpful people. I even went to a shop that has a dog water bowl and snacks outside their front door and the lady gave a disapproving look as she looked at my dog, so I left as I'm not begging to give them money. I think I will stick with the Coligny Plaza, they were nice and welcoming today. read more

So, the only kind of beach town or town by the water that I'm accustomed to ever seeing is whatever was on Dawsons Creek or A Walk To Remember. Maybe I'm showing my age here but whatever. As a tourist to Hilton Head Island, I knew I wanted to see Harbour Town in addition to the infamous Harbour Town lighthouse. When I came here, it almost felt magical. Being by the water, seeing all the boats that were docked, the nice accompanying sea breeze, it was a super fun and lovely experience. Seeing as thought it is a major tourist destination, there were tons of people and a lot of shops but it didn't take away from the beauty of it all. My favorite part of this entire visit was seeing the light house. I mean...it's a light house so you knew what you were getting there but it was just really fun to be around and be inside of. My bf's sister, her little ones, my bf's mom and myself bought tickets to be able to go inside the lighthouse and climb, yes, I said CLIMB to the top of it. It was a unique trek bexsuse each floor you came to as you climbed up explained something related to the history of the lighthouse. It helped to keep the climb entertaining. Once we reached the top, OH. MY. GOSH! The view was beautiful! The view mixed in with the nice, gentle sea breeze is what summer days and nights should consist of. Absolutely gorgeous. And furthermore, the climb wasn't too bad either and this is coming from someone who wheezes just looking at something super tall. Ha! Overall, as touristy as this place was, I am so glad I got to go and experience. It was a fun experience overall! read more

We decided to check this place out since it was a well known tourist location and it seemed to match that description. When we went there, we were asked to pay an entry fee of nine dollars. When we arrived we had a lot of trouble finding parking with there being limited space. When we finally did find a parking spot we did enjoy the view. The view was absolutely spectacular and the beach was quite charming but the pricing for some of the food and just to walk up the lighthouse were more then their worth. Almost locations were often crowded so you'd have to wait for quite some time to get a table. Overall, it would be a good photo spot but not a great place to dine and chill. read more

It's not worth the hype, in my opinion. I wanted to check out the lighthouse and see what was around. In order to get in, there is a fee. Once in, you can park, which is covered by the entry fee. Once parked, I walked around. You have the lighthouse, some souvenir shops amongst other shops. You have some places to eat and the marina. It was worth checking out at least once. We spent a little bit of time in Harbour Town on our last night on Hilton Head Island. A quick look at the lighthouse, which we were not going to climb, a bit of sunset time on the pier, a beer at one of the restaurants and some mementos at one of the shops. This is the far end of Sea Pines Resort at the south/west end of Hilton Head Island so you'll get a great sunset picture if you try. And even in early December, it's still a lovely spot. Lighthouse build in the end of a community, it's a tourist trap and they let people in for $9 to drive to the lighthouse and eat and shop. The parking situation is terrible, we drove around for light 30 mins before getting a spot. They have restaurants but since that only thing around it's always packed. Wait for inside table was 1.5 hours and if you want to sit outside under the sun it will be quicker.we ended up walking around and taking a few pictures. The view was nice but this is totally a tourist trap. read more

Harbour Town is a place for families go to have a fabulous time. It's a terrific area with tons and tons of things to you. Beautiful marina, the arts, you can ride your bike everywhere. Super cute little area with lots of small shops and restaurants. We stayed in the area and went fir walks daily to Harbour Town. It was peaceful. In addition to the restaurants, clothing shops, and golf, there were a couple of small markets. My favorite had all kinds of sweatshirts, T-shirts, trinkets, souvenirs, ice cream, and the best coffee lattes. I loved that people sat in rocking chairs, drinking coffee, and peacefully gazed onto the harbor. read more

Staying across the island so came over for dinner and to see the lighthouse. First when you drive in you have to pay to enter like this is Disneyland, I was shocked when we were stopped. Then when you enter the heart of the town (so like near the shopping/lighthouse) you have to find a place to park. I have never seen an instance of artificial parking scarcity ever as egregious as here. There is barely any parking but then they make you pay $15 or $20 to "valet park" but don't be mistaken this is just yet another charge just to enjoy this half of the island. And then you get into town and the lighthouse, shopping, and restaurants are a bit of a disappointment and frankly you should spend your afternoon on some other part of the island or on the mainland which do these aspects much better. If we come back to Hilton Head we'll probably just skip this place since we already saw the lighthouse and nothing else seemed great enough to come back to. I'm sure it's nice if you have a place to stay and park inside the "harbour town complex" but if you are visiting the area prepare to pay and then be underwhelmed. read more

Harbour Town is part of the Sea Pines Resort on Hilton Head Island. It's a popular destination for both tourists and locals. It's also the site of many events and activities. I grew up vacationing in Sea Pines and visiting Harbour Town, so I have a lot of fond childhood memories. I liked to ride my bike on the trails to Harbour Town, play on the playground and giant oak trees, go to the toy store, and climb to the top of the lighthouse. Our family enjoyed dining at The Crazy Crab (http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-crazy-crab-hilton-head-island-2) and still do to this day. My sister and I went to Gregg Russell concerts when we were kids. 30+ years later, Gregg Russell is still performing for new generations of children under the Liberty Oak Tree. Harbour Town has a couple parking lots near the shopping and dining area with free parking. One of the lots is located adjacent to the playground. There are also plentiful bike racks in case you want to ride your bike. I occasionally like to bike to Harbour Town because I love riding on the trails. During the peak season, parking may be hard to come by. In those instances, there are trolleys in Sea Pines that can take you to Harbour Town. In the ~30 years I've been visiting, it seems to have hardly changed. Most of the changes have been subtle. I think the biggest difference I've noticed over the last few decades is the playground getting bigger. The Harbour Town Golf Links clubhouse is currently undergoing a major renovation and will re-open Spring 2015. Speaking of the golf course, it is a treat to play on. Each spring, the course hosts the PGA Tour's Heritage tournament. Harbour Town's golf course was designed by Pete Dye. It's rather challenging with narrow fairways, tight lies, and "postage stamp" greens. There are plenty of hazards including alligators. :) The 18th hole borders the Calibogue Sound with Harbour Town's iconic red and white colored lighthouse behind the green. Very picturesque. Admission to the lighthouse is $4. If you've never been before, I recommend checking it out. It doubles as a museum and gift shop containing interesting artifacts from Harbour Town's history. I believe most, if not all, are locally owned. They consist primarily of apparel and gift shops along with home decor, accessories, and art galleries/stores. These shops are a great place to find high quality souvenirs, arts, crafts, gifts for others, and unique items you probably can't find anywhere else. There's something for all ages. Among the multiple dining options at Harbour Town, I think The Crazy Crab is the most popular. It's certainly been around the longest, since 1984. Other popular places to get a bite to eat are Harbourside Burger & Brews, located outdoors next to the marina, and The Quarterdeck, which is an indoor/outdoor restaurant located at the base of the lighthouse. What's not to like about Harbour Town. Once you arrive, you get a feeling of relaxation and being part of the Lowcountry experience. Very relaxing, yet with a nice shore town southern flavor. From the restaurants to the shops, there's something here for everyone. Located in the Sea Pines area, if you're not a resident or with a pass, you'll need to pay to enter. One would think that everything here is expensive, but that's not the case. They have a lighthouse, but it's small, but very quaint. There are many excursions to take. Golf is always nice here. The RBC Heritage is a classic played here. You may find some crying kids occasionally, but not too many angry parents. No matter where you're from, remember you're here to relax and have fun! read more

This review applies to Seapines the entire area. The entry fee has gone from $6 to $9 if you are not a guest. This summer the entry fee will be $10.00. We typically shop and dine at least twice at Seapines and pay the fee. It's totally not worth it. Last week several of the Harbour town shops were closed along with many at the Seapines center. Only the Salty Dog was busy. Tourist can skip the visit to Seapines and look to Shelter Cove and a new and improved Coligny beach for much better options and value. read more

Always a fan favorite place to go while in HHI! Beautiful scenery of the boats in the harbor and the salt marshes. Sunset is particularly lovely with the changing light and now with the new boardwalk, more people can enjoy it. The playground is one of the best I have ever seen and such a memory for my family. It is definitely a not to be missed playground for children. This year, the lighthouse was dressed up in plaid for the Heritage golf tournament anniversary. Very festive! read more

Sea Pines is known for biking, golfing, horseback riding its candy cane colored lighthouse, if lucky, -a pass to their pool, tennis courts, and so much more! 1. At first I was a little upset I had to pay to even get to this place; however once we finally parked and started to walk around I was pretty impressed. The pier itself had a beautiful view of the harbour and we were able to stand around for a good 30 minutes watching the dolphins swim back out. They have picnic tables at the end of the pier as well for those who want to sit and enjoy the breeze. They also have a lot of rocking chairs lining the walk path. We were able to use these and sit for a good while watching the boats park and leave in the harbour. They have a few restaurants and shops but I would have to agree with other reviews they are a bit on the expensive side because they are touristy. For those who have kids they also have a pretty large play ground which is completely covered by huge oak trees - so a lot of shade during the middle of the South Carolina summer. Had I planned better, I would have scheduled our jaunt around Harbour Town to coincide with the night we ate at the Salty Dog...could've saved that extra $6 entry fee. If you're looking to kill some time, it's a fine place to visit. I kind of felt like we needed to see the lighthouse in order to truly say we'd been to HHI. The playground is nice if you have kids. The stores aren't super special. And you can look at some yachts and boats that cost more than your house. For us, we were in and out in less than two hours. read more

Harbour Town is located in Sea Pines. When you enter Sea Pines, and if you don't have a pass, you need to get one at the entrance. Be sure to stay in the right lane (left lane is for pass owners). Passes as of 2018 are $6.00 for the day. Harbour Town is known for its famous lighthouse, which you can climb up and learn fun facts along the way. Beautiful views of the Harbour wait for you once you reach the top. There are many shops, several restaurants, and lots places to get ice cream! Harbour Town is a fun family place - your little ones can sign up for "pirate school!" There's also exciting entertainment in the evening provided by Hilton Head's famous Gregg Russell. Make sure you visit H2O Sports, where you can sign up for all kinds of water sports, including parasailing and kayak tours. Beautiful, red, wooden rocking chairs are at your disposal if you want to just sit and people-watch. When you visit Hilton Head, Harbour Town should be on your list as a must-do! read more

Plenty of parking and a walking pier that looks over the river. Didn't do any shopping as it was a little to touristy with prices to match. Just sat down in one of the numerous red rocking chairs provided. Beautiful breeze and an ice cream shop of you are craving some. There are plenty of buildings that appear to be either rentals or hotels or even time shares. Many of the boats offer chartering. Just be prepared to really pay for that. One we saw wanted $550 for a max of 5 people for 4 hours. read more

The harbourtown area is not what I was expecting. Very poorly kept area. The family restrooms had a broken knob that was locking families inside the restroom. The public access restrooms in general were deplorable one seaters. Can you believe one tiny toilet for all the people here. Disaster! Not to mention so unclean! I have been in larger cleaner restrooms in city parks in St. Louis Mo. I guess this review should really be for the Sea Pines resort which is where you pay $6 to enter this property. Are you not pulling in enough money from all the vacationing wealthy tourists? The shops here are so tight and crowded it makes you want to leave. Seems counterproductive. I came in with a wife, a kid, and a backpack and felt like a bull in a china shop. Know what happened next? Guess! I left. I spent no money there. Cause ya know why? Annoying thats why. Harbour Town Shops visit was nice. The staff at the Light House was amazing! The Costal Treasure shop was sad and disappointing! They have a sign asking patrons to "making donations to "Teddy" the golden retriever with cancer and place a dog bowl with water outside which gives all the indication its dog friendly. However, they don't allow a dog the same size as the dog they are asking people to give donations to at their shop. The sales person said, "small dogs are okay" which seems like a contradiction. You want to pull on the hearts of animal lovers many with large dogs such as mine, what kind you ask, an extremely well trained Lab nothing terrifying! Yet you will not allow them in your shop! Ridiculous! Stay away from this shop it's false sense of "do good" is not backed up by its staff. Another example of when the rubber hits the road a business does not stand behind what it advertises. read more
