What a great local find in Redmond, Oregon. We decided to switch from polyethylene cutting boards to natural wood, as cutting on polyethylene puts micro plastics into food. An internet search turned up mostly wood cutting boards made in China. And we learned that bamboo is hard on knife blades. We decided to find a local source and discovered Hardenbrook Hardwoods and met owner Dana. He has a great selection of woods and finishes in his shop, where the rich scent of wood dust fills the air. Dana is knowledgeable about wood types and finishes, and offers custom orders. We bought the end cut butcher block option, and they are beautiful. After a few days of use, the blocks shows scant sign of use. We like them so much we will be buying these to give as gifts in the future. read more

I ordered a custom Sapele Counter top/ island from Hardenbrook, the end of March.  The old sink cabinet and drawers were in my garage while my kitchen was under construction.  I informed him that dishwasher cabinet was going to be rebuilt, as it was damaged during remodel, the drawers were to the right of the sink cabinet, in my garage. (these cabinets were in the exact place in the garrage with the drawers to the right of the sink cabinet) I was out of town ,Eric said  I would not  need to be home to measure for the top, he knows the width for the dishwasher cabinet and can measure the sink cabinet and drawers in the garage. Mention again,  The old cabinets were in my garage the same way they came out of my house.  Dishwasher space to the left ,  sink, cabinets.   Eric assumed that the dishwasher would be on the right of the sink without consulting me.  When the counter top arrived with the sink installed it did not fit the island as shown in the photo , because he just assumed the dishwasher was on the right.   It was never on the right and he made a mistake.  Rather then apologizing,  he wanted to make excuses, and said " lets not do the blame game"   My cabinet people were there and were shocked at his attitude.  I had guests coming and did not have a sink. The dishwasher cabinet was just constructed by the cabinet people (on the left) and the dishwasher was already installed .  I should have insisted on a new counter,  but could not wait the additional 6 weeks.    I had to pay the cabinet people to make a new dishwasher cabinet to the right of my sink and move the drawers to the left of the sink.($300 extera charge)    There are now two holes in my pergo floor where the dishwasher cabinet was originally attached,   and two holes in my drawer cabinet. I had to have the electrician return to rewire the electrical .  $70,) We also had a disagreement on the air switch hole for the disposal, which I thought would be easy , since I already had so many problems.  When I initially placed my order,  I assumed he would install the sink. , as in past quartz counter top makers always install the sink,  he did finally agree to install the sink. After this was all done,  I sent him a VERY reasonable bill for the change from the cabinet people, $300. , the electrician , $75 and $100 to change out the pergo tiles.    He offered me a cutting board, as compensation, and said the trip to Bend and installing my sink were good enough. (He agreed to install the sink way before delivery, and it has nothing to do with the errors he had made, this was not relevant) This was an expensive piece of material,   His attitude was confrontational.   When an error is made , the supplier should make amends.  I could have been really difficult and demanded a new $3,000 slab for the island.  But I made this work in my home.. Requesting reimbursement for my out of pocket expenses was fair, and very resonable, The cost of my counter was almost $6,000. All my other contractors were shocked that I was taken advantage of like this and thought my $470 reimbursement for my expenses were very fair. This is why I am posting this review. read more

Love the walnut confetti butcher's block. Eric paid attention to all the details from start to finish: he asked if I wanted a monogram (yep!), let me know when it shipped (FedEx), packaged it sturdily, and included clear instructions and a bottle of wood-conditioner for taking care of the block. Plus, he's a nice guy to deal with. The finished product is beautiful. Although the center is composed of probably 200 pieces of wood (hence the "confetti"), it's sanded to perfection and feels like one block. Eric's products would make excellent gifts. They could become family heirlooms. read more
