Arguably the most popular attraction in Interlaken, Harder Kulm offers breathtaking views of both Lake Thun and Brienz and the surrounding mountains. And because it's so popular, the wait times going up and down the mountain can take awhile. You can purchase your ticket ahead of time and there are discounts with the Half Fare and Swiss Pass! The funicular comes about every 30 minutes and can fit about 60 people at a time. Unfortunately, you can't book a timed slot so you're best bet for low waits is coming right when they open. The whole ride takes about 10 minutes and it's kind of stuffy in the compartment. For best views, try to get a seat at the window...it looks really cool going backwards and having the views slowly expand from just the forest around you to include the lakes and mountains as you go up. At the top, there's a nice observation platform that overlooks everything. It's kind of cool to see that Lake Thun and Brienz are different shades of blue and if you look closely at the mountains, you should be able to see glaciers too. We got lucky and had clear skies for our pictures but the clouds rolled in fast and it got pretty chilly close to sunset. There's also a restaurant at the top with an open seating section serving pizzas and beers. When we tried to go back down, we noticed that the line was even longer than going up so we decided to just hang out at the top, get some beers, and wait. Alternatively, hiking is an option but we weren't really prepared for that. Would I do it again? Probably not but I think everyone should do it at least once. The views are nice but it's pricey just to get up there and the wait times to get down the mountain are way too long.

Stunning views all around at Harder Kulm! You can see Lake Brienz and Lake Thun as well as the Swiss Alps on a clear day. We took the funicular up and down the hill. It's standing only ride that takes about 8 mins to get to the top, but the line to get onto the funicular was quite long. We waited for 30-45 mins each way. There's a restaurant at the top as well that serves decent food and drinks. The restaurant prices are in line with other places in Interlaken so you might as well enjoy your dinner (or lunch) with a gorgeous view!

Took the gondola up. They do pack it with every human that can fit. It takes about 10 min to ride and up and it's very hot in there. The gondola runs every 30 min. Once up there, you have beautiful views of interlaken. They have a restaurant up there too. We had fondue. This activity can be quick (30-60min up there). If you eat there, add 60 min to the time you plan to spend up there. We went early and it wasn't as crowded as I heard it could get.

Beautiful views of the Interlaken, lake, and mountain views. You have to take a funicular train ride from Interlaken across the river from train station for a 5 minute walk. You can buy tickets online or at the spot. Although expect wait times. You also cab check for discounts for example eurail europass had a great discount. 10 minute ride up the viewpoint. It could be crowded based on the time and month of the visit. On reaching the top, the kids have a great play area, place to eat, and buy souvenirs. Then, there is an observation platform like a deck popping out and gives a great viewpoint. It's definitely worth the ride and money spent. I highly recommend this if you visit Interlaken.

I hiked in a torrential downpour on one of the most difficult solo hikes in my life to mediocre views. Well, Interlaken is beautiful, but the views I got here were not that impressive compared to other places I went nearby. This hike was so steep and muddy, and you're deep in the forest without great trail markers. There are no views while hiking because the trees block everything. It took me close to four hours, which is much longer than it should've taken, but it was raining so heavily that it was challenging. It started raining after I had started, of course. Now, I'm not complaining that the rain ruined the hike. My complaint is that after all the hard work to get up there, I was greeted with an average view (for Switzerland), and then had to pay somewhere between 15-20 CHF (and I had a student discount) to ride the funicular back down, which only took a few minutes. This experience was worth neither the physical and mental exertion nor the money.

We took the tram up just before sunset so we had stunning views. There were long lines both ways, but I'm happy I did this activity.

Mountains? Check. Lakes? Check. Perfect setting for some ATV-ing? ... CHECK. Interlaken,…read moreSwitzerland is as close to heaven as an outdoor enthusiast can get; hiking, climbing, rafting, paragliding, ATV-ing.. sigh. Pure beauty, serenity and a side of adrenaline.. and if you're not from here, it also comes with one awesome tour guide: Daniel! He took us up in the mountains over a 3 hour long Quad (ATV for us Americans) trip. Most of our drive was on paved roads, some wider and straighter than others.. there were definitely lots of steep hairpin turns (fun!).. These gave my stepdaughter lots of much needed practice for if she ever wants to go atv-ing with us again, as this was her first time. The trip took us through beautiful nature scenery.. lots of trees, little streams, a couple of small farmer villages with chalet style homes and the occassional cow here and there. Personally, the rougher the terrain and the faster the machine, the better of a time I have. I may look girly, but I just hide my down 'n dirty adrenaline junkie side very well. From this standpoint, the short offroad portion of the trip was probably my favorite part! Since it started raining, this offroad rocky terrain (downhill) was nice and muddy-slippery. If you're not an experienced rider this may give you a run for your money. My first-time riding stepdaughter wasn't too enthused, but my husband and I had a blast and went up and down a couple of times. The real treat (stepdaughter will agree) after the off road fun was a surprise visit to a working, super small scale dairy farm that makes cheese and other goodies. Cows.. up front and close, fluffy, pettable cows. Oh, and lunch! Whoop. By the time we made it back down to Interlaken (the city itself is beautiful) we were soaked and muddy down to our underwear. Turns out it rains here in July - lesson learned. Daniel's wife came out with towels so that we could change into something dry.. Talk about hospitality and friendly service! Everything was awesome and so worth the money. Which, comparing it to other places such as Colorado, is extremely reasonable. Honestly, this couldn't have been more fun and Daniel couldn't have been friendlier. Rain or no rain, I'd return in a heartbeat!

The ride up was quite foggy, and we weren't sure if we'd be able to see anything at the top but thankfully, the clouds began to clear just enough to enjoy the views. The Cliff Walk itself is an exhilarating experience, with a secure metal walkway clinging to the edge of the mountain and a sky-high viewing platform that offers dramatic vistas (when the weather cooperates). Even in the fog, the atmosphere was magical, mystical, almost otherworldly, the dramatic drop-offs and the walkway clinging to the cliffside created an unforgettable experience. While on our way up and then at the summit, we could hear the soft clanging of cowbells echoing through the fog as it turns out, there were cows peacefully grazing high up in the alpine meadows, completely unbothered by the clouds or the altitude. It was surreal and strangely calming. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to make it to the lake, but the walk alone was well worth the trip. Just a heads-up: if you're hoping to hike further, it's best to arrive earlier in the day to allow time for both the walk and the trail to the lake. Absolutely recommend it and event the faint of the heart can make the most out their visit on the top and at the cliff walk.

One a clear, sunny day you can see for miles. It is another 50 minutes to hike to the alpine lake which we didn't realize we could do until we got up there but, we didn't have the time to do it. Get there as early as possible - like right as they open or you will be standing in line to get you photo on the edge.

Such a missed opportunity to do something great - super location, great mechanics yet ownership…read morethat only cares about squeezing every penny out of each customer. I spent thousands of dollars there over the last couple of years and really found the mechanics top notch. But the first time I had a problem, it could have been simply solved and the owner wouldn't even address it. I was shocked after being a loyal customer I could only image how he must gauge tourists. When I told him about the issue I never asked for a specific resolution (just wanted to let the owner Martin, know I was charged for work I didn't request and the work I did request was never done) he had the chance to take accountability and make it right. Instead he told me any problems were between me and the employees he "had nothing to do with it". A terribly spineless way to run a business. Imagine bringing your car in for a brake job and because the mechanics thought it was old looking they give you a new paint job but never do the brakes!! Of all the used bike sales and bike auctions I've been to, this was by far the best --- and,…read moresurprisingly, the mellowest. Need a basic used city bike for getting to class and back? CHF 150. Want something simple to leave at the train station? CHF 100. Want an almost-new commuter with a working generator and V-brakes? CHF 400. Want a nicer bike for weekend rides? Well, that's a little trickier... Test rides are easy --- bring an ID to leave with the gatekeeper, and pop across the street for a few minutes. Checkout couldn't be simpler (as long as you bring cash) --- each bike has the no-haggle price on a form, along with the owner's name. You take the bike to the checkout stand, pay your money, and get your receipt; the operators deal with giving the money to the seller, so you don't need to wait for them to make change. No cards accepted, though --- so bring plenty of large bills, so nobody beats you to a good bike while you're at the Bancomat. I was looking for a good heavy-duty commuter for my wife, and a nice mountain bike for Altberg (and occasionally Üetliberg). The first one was easy --- quickly narrowed it down to a few, and picked a good one. The mountain bike was more of a stretch --- there were a few around, but several were too large, one was too downhill-oriented (I can live without three chainrings, but do need two), and many, many were too old (I'm trading up from a late-90s steel hardtail --- I don't need another). Did eventually find a 2005 Specialized FSR that had been pressed into city duty --- it's back in the mud and woods now.
