There were a lot of mannerisms​ like, scratching his head in frustration​ and dropping his hands on the table as if to say, this is ridiculous​. I felt as though I was wasting his time when I drove to his office and am more than prepared to pay his $300 per hour rate. Eventually​, while trying to set up​ a time/date in May he told me that he has changed his mind and no longer wants to work with me. I believe it to be because​ I corrected him on the dates that he sent me to schedule from. He had sent me an email saying that he is available May the 10th, Friday but, May the 10th is a Thursday. So, I simply wanted to be clear on which date to schedule. I am sure that he didn't like being "corrected" even though I was nothing but courteous​ with him the entire time. Most of my emails began with, "thank you again for taking the time to meet with me" and ended with "I appreciate​ your assistance​" etc. Basically, things he should be saying to me as the client (not vice-versa​). Instead, he was short and uninterested in his responses and in our meeting. I felt uncomfortable and judged as if I was some kid that didn't know what I was doing and it was up to him whether​ he wanted​ to waste his time with me or not. In the end, I guess he chose to not. I'll be more than fine, I'm actually​ very well versed in business income, deductions, tax forms, spreadsheets​, etc. I really don't need to be made to feel that way especially​, when I am educated​. I'm not at all surprised that he declined to help me with my sole proprietorship​ taxes given his demeanor during our meeting and via email. He must make more than enough money than to deal with someone who can easily pay his asking rate and has all of his documents organized and available.

After that McGrath took it upon himself to add my husband to the account...Why?...Because the "little lady" could not possibly have this account on her own. Here's what, because of my husband's residency status at the time, legally he could not be on the account. I had to put together a legal opinion letter for McGrath. Also, his own company told him my husband could not be added. In addition to not being very knowledgeable about certain things, the documentation he requires has not been required of me by any other financial advisor, in my life. He wanted to see tax returns (I never provided because I didn't go to him for CPA services); he wanted a copy of my driver's license AND a copy of my business card. Really?? Can you say "potential identity theft landmine!" I can't help but wonder if he was either being nosy or suspect (like he couldn't believe that I did what I did for a living). I often wondered if he treated ALL his clients like that.

I've been a business owner for over ten years and I don't think I've ever had a less professional call with someone in a professional field in my entire career. He came very highly recommended as someone who cares deeply about his clients and has experiences unwinding complex tax situations. The conversation we had was the furthest from that I could possibly imagine. Among choice quotes from Jonathan were: - "I can change you five times my normal rate and maybe that will incentivize me to help you" - "When you think about all that you are needing - the returns for the past years, any financial review that may need to happen, and allowing you have less 'hands on' and transferring the 'leg work,' what do you believe the investment should be for this type of service?" He also made it clear that if I worked with him, I should not take reasonable deductions (like contributing to a SEP IRA), because he wouldn't be able to take the time to help me estimate my contribution. He also is clearly uninformed about basic tax rules, like what the deadline for making a SEP IRA contribution is. A two minute google search confirmed this. Which begs the question - what other tax laws and regulations does he not understand? I would have much rather he just said up front "I'm sorry, I'm booked up and I don't have the bandwidth to help you." Instead, the conversation we had was appalling. Also, naked videos on his Facebook page promoting his services as a tax professional? Really?

I was referred by a friend who absolutely loves Bob, but my experience filing my 2021 taxes was…read moredisappointing. Bob was perfectly kind, clearly knowledgeable about taxes, and skilled at his trade. He handled my appointment with ease and I felt comfortable with him. The big issue I experienced is that my taxes weren't filed!!! I had my appointment in early February and at that time, I provided all the documents Bob needed. He said the taxes would be filed within a week. By late March, I still had not received my refund so I reached out to Bob to verify the taxes were filed. I did not get a response. By early April, I reached out again and spoke with Bob's secretary/receptionist/assistant. She grilled me fairly aggressively with questions like "did Bob need more documentation for me" (no) and "had I checked the IRS website yet" (yes). She then put me on hold and came back a few minutes later with a much different demeanor. She said they had experienced some software glitches and that my taxes had not been filed yet. Please note this was EIGHT weeks after my initial appointment. I asked the receptionist what would have happened if I didn't call to check in. She said she checks periodically and would have caught it. I'm sorry, but that feels like a lie. It's been 8 weeks and we are in the middle of tax season. The deadline to file and pay is less than two weeks away. At what point are you going to "periodically" run across my unfiled taxes and take care of it? Balls were dropped on their end, whether it was truly a software glitch or a mistake made by Bob or his receptionist. Things were not handled properly on their side and if they're unable to file in a timely manner, I'm not sure I trust them to handle my sensitive personal information. I did not appreciate the attitude from the receptionist and don't feel that she's a good representative for Bob. He was kind and helpful at my appointment, but she was aggressive and rude over the phone. I'm especially frustrated because I was due an AZ State refund but owed federal taxes. My plan was to use the state refund to cover what I owe the feds. Because the deadline to pay is ten days away now, and my taxes were just *barely* filed yesterday so that state refund will not be here in time to cover my federal payment. Please note that I waited to post my review until everything was filed and processed completely because I didn't want any interference or complications. I rate my interaction with Bob during my appointment 5/5 stars, my interaction with his receptionist 1/5 stars, and the overall experience 1/5 stars. Super disappointed in the overall experience.
