I can say without reservation, Sergey is remarkable. In addition to his meticulous dedication to his craft, he was remarkably flexible when I ran into issues securing my flooring. I hired Sergey to install my engineered wood floor but purchased the flooring itself from an internet supplier. I ordered the wood in late February with a promised mid March delivery date. I recently purchased a house built in 1930 and the floors looked as if that was the first and last time anyone had tried to care for the floors at all--major staining, horrible scratches, a few chipped boards--you get the idea. Over the course of a week Sergey brought my floors back to life, replacing any boards that needed it, sanding away all of the deep scratches, and overall making my floors look brand new. We gave Sergey a challenge - install new flooring in our kitchen and match the 100+ year old flooring in the rest on the house. The floor was also uneven due to addition build in the 1980s. Sergey was up for the challenge. And got to work immediately. He was incredibly thorough, explaining every aspect of the process. He found matching wood, suggested top-nail, and tested a half dozen different stains to insure the match was perfect. He's a perfectionist. And an incredibly hard worker. We hired Sergey in September 2023 to replace a mixture of 20-year-old carpet and hardwood floors in our 2-story home. We replaced those floors with Brazilian Cherry engineered hardwood. The first floor has a concrete subfloor, with plywood subfloor upstairs. Sergey is extremely knowledgeable and let us know exactly what we would need to order for each type of subfloor, as well as the solid hardwood we would need for the staircase treads. Throughout the process, Sergey was prompt, communicative, helpful, orderly, and meticulous. His many years of experience make him invaluable as an installer. We were most impressed with how he was able to match the stain on our American Cherry stair treads (Brazilian Cherry stair treads were not readily available) to our Brazilian Cherry engineered hardwood. No one who has seen it has been able to tell that the types of wood are different from the floor to the stairs. We have three gas fireplaces and he did an amazing job of framing the wood floor around the existing tile hearth areas. He also had to deal with multiple types of transitions from the wood to tile in the bathrooms and linoleum in the laundry room, as well as creating a transition for the three carpeted doorways for the bedrooms we didn't replace floors in upstairs. We will definitely be hiring him in early 2024 to finish those 3 rooms. In all, Sergey replaced approximately 2,000 square feet of flooring. We are extremely happy with our new floors and know that is in large part due to hiring Sergey to do the work. We highly recommend him for anyone who wants high quality floor installation. Edit: I mistakenly said our stair treads were American Cherry, they are actually Brazilian Cherry. It is the handrails that are American Cherry. I am still so impressed how all of the solid wood pieces were stained so well that they match and transition well with the engineered hardwood. read more

Due to a failed refrigerator ice maker I needed my hardwood floor repaired, partially replaced and refinished. Sergey is an expert floor doctor. Hiring him was an excellent decision to tackle dry rot water damage. Sergey surgically removed the rotten wood (1997 red oak) in a 2' x 4' area, dried the area out, found matching boards, installed, refinished and restored my kitchen. His attention to detail is fantastic! Floor molding removed, vents removed, adjoining carpet moved to thoroughly access all edges of the hardwood floor. We're selling our house, and two of our bathrooms had a bit of water damage from typical usage. Others were fairly insistent on replacing boards (more $$$), which would be the thing to do if one were a perfectionist. Sergey suggested rather than insisting on replacing them. After the first sanding, I could see that it would be slightly discolored, but in good shape, so we went ahead with just refinishing. I'm happy that Sergey guided us, but wasn't pushy, and did his best job to get the finish as close to perfect as possible without removing some boards. I am in the process of restoring my 100+ year old home, going room by room. The most recent room restoration involved removing an old chimney stack that went through a room and resulted in a missing section of fir flooring. The floor itself was carpeted and under that it was painted. Sergey came out, took a look, did some quick investigation and gave me a quote. He was able to come by quickly and fit me into his schedule. Sergey is very organized, responsive, and ready to do the work! This is so refreshing compared to some other contractors. Sergey was able to source matching old growth fir flooring wood and splice in the wood to the area so that it looks like there wasn't ever a hole there. He removed the paint, secured and replaced any loose or severely damaged boards, sanded, wood filled, and buffed the floor to a smooth surface ready for finish. The process was quick, professional, clean, and of high quality. Sergey is a great person to work with and I would have him back anytime and have already passed his name onto several neighbors. One thing I respect about him is that he will tell you the truth about your floors, the cost, and what you will get out of it. If you want brand new floors but your wood has heavy damage or is riddled with screws or something crazy he will let you know honestly what you'll get out of a refinish and any repairs necessary so you are aware of the cost should you want to go another route like new wood based on your desired look/outcome. Finally the finish. Now I have a specific non-standard finish that I wanted to use so I took over at this point and applied the finish myself. I knew this going in and I think it's awesome that he worked with me to get what I wanted in the end. Throughout the process Sergey helped me learn more about the floors and what he was doing so I made informed choices. For the finishing he gave me lots of good tips and left me with some sandpaper that I might need during the process. I have some pics of the finish applied, which is not Sergey's work but I think it helps show the quality of the wood he spliced in and the overall sanding and refinish results. Wonderful experience. When Sergey pulled up to our house in his Hardwood Floor Specialist Sprinter van, the first thing I noticed was a quote written on the side: "Cheap is never good. And good is never cheap." While some cut-rate minded homeowners might wince at this statement, we found it incredibly reassuring. It suggested a man committed to doing his work incredibly well and that was our experience with Sergey. In early December 2018, he refinished the floors in our house. It might seem strange to apply human-like characteristics to inanimate planks of wood, but after he was finished our floors seemed much happier. Warm. Proud. Full of life. The whole house was transformed and we're incredibly pleased with the results. While he was working, he noticed the wood grates over our HVAC returns were showing serious signs of wear and had some loose pieces. He took them to his shop and rebuilt them free of charge. It would have been so easy to overlook them, but he was dead set on having every aspect of the job be perfect. As our house projects continue, we hired Sergey again. This time we hired him to help us remove vinyl tiles that were installed in the 60s with a black tar-like adhesive. The majority of them were installed directly onto bare wood that made the adhesive nearly impossible to remove. I attempted to remove them myself but after spending over eight hours and only got a couple of rows removed (albeit sloppily) and hadn't a clue how to get the adhesive off the floor. So we called Sergey. Sergey had a brilliant solution and was able to remove both the tiles and the adhesive in less than a day and a half without damaging the original wood floor underneath. Once we get a wall moved we will be hiring him to come back and complete the refinishing of the floor. I have recommended him to friends and will continue to recommend him to anyone, especially if they have an older or historic home. read more

Sergey installed a gorgeous oak floor in my living room, and more. A master craftsman and an exceptionally conscientious professional, I would rehire him in a heartbeat, and confidently recommend him with highest praise. He stood out from other contractors from the beginning by his quick response time. As he explained the options, his depth of experience as a craftsman and his integrity became apparent. He was up front about what could and could not be done, and why, and I appreciated that. Once I'd engaged him, he double-checked and recorded my choices at each juncture, which I respected for clarity. He is an excellent communicator (which takes a lot of the stress out of working with a contractor). He also worked with me to schedule work timelines so I had time do my parts of prep, and budget along the way. On to the work: He pulled out a cringeworthy science project of a carpet in my living room and installed the gorgeous hardwood floor I've wanted for decades. He also expertly repaired and replaced areas of damaged wood and a botched furnace access panel in my hallway and incredibly, was able to match the red oak with white and red oak. Everything was finished/refinished with a natural finish I got to choose, and it displays the wood's natural beauty and color, and is now a seamless shining sea of a floor from the living room through the hallway and my bedroom. I'm thrilled! This, during a wood shortage, with no guarantee wood will be available-- but if anyone can find it, Sergey can. There was work above-and-beyond that could not fairly be expected from a contractor, and any such work would be a case-by-case basis for the contractor to decide. He located an area of structural integrity damage in the hallway the furnace installers caused when putting in the furnace. This was really going above and beyond, but he safely reinforced with metal a load-bearing beam under the floor they had severed and haphazardly nailed together! It is well within the rights of a craftsman laying a wood floor to have another person do that sort of thing. It was difficult to access and a bit of a puzzle, and the floor is sound as a dollar now, not bouncy in that corner with the potential fall-through that was waiting to happen. He offered to check and see if he could find a wood air intake register to replace my metal grate in the living room, warning me there might not be any available, and he found one! It matched, and really enhanced the beautiful wood floor in the living room, and the air intake is now flush with the floor, too. In the hallway, he rebuilt the access door so it is no longer splintery and wobbly, but smooth and looks great and opens and closes easily now with color-matched brass handles I ordered. It kept being more and more apparent what 35 years of experience can mean to a project. This man has an incredible work ethic. He works hard and steadily, and is conscientious about cleanup at the end of every day, so treat him right, he's a jewel. He's also mindful of safety: on one very small open spot in the hallway at the end of one day (there was a lot of surprise extra in that hallway that day) he installed a stout wood panel I could walk across just in case, so I wouldn't trip in the middle of the night. A note on honesty: There was an area of floor I was positive was rotted underneath because of the condition of the carpet in that corner, and he called me in to show me it wasn't, and that saved me money; I wouldn't have known if he hadn't shown me. He also found that separate area of damage in the hallway no one had ever told me about, and could have just left it, as others had, because it was a pain to deal with, but told me about it and quoted me a cost and my floor is now sound. That is exactly the kind of person I want to do business with. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. read more

Sergey is the owner and did our dining room+living room floors by himself (with a little help from his teenage son). Our 100+ year old oak floors were last refinished 29 years ago, surviving two dogs, two teenage children, and three grandsons. So the floors had some serious wear and tear. My partner and I just bought our first house together in NE Portland and now we begin the process of making it a home. The first thing we wanted to do was to lighten our living room and dining room floors from that dark, old honey colored wood you see in many old Portland homes to something fresh, light and modern that would make the place feel more spacious. My father recently passed and I was readying their house for sale. They had an early 70's parquet floor with water damage near windows - a number of broken and greying/rotten tiles. These guys did an amazing job at a great price. Sergey and his son actually helped me empty out the room (tv, sofa, .................) and worked fast over the next few days but I think went above and beyond. The parquet tiles was made up of individual small different colored oak strips which would be impossible to match but Sergey bought, cut and matched it almost identically creating new tiles.
