I had The Lion Burger which was very filling and tasty. Probably not worth a special trip but if passing I would recommend this place as bar staff were friendly and tasty pub food.

The save with the whisked spray cream. Service is OK, but perfectible. The pub can be reached by a public footpath from the main Stansted terminal. So if your flight is delayed, you may consider a 15 mins walk to eat healthier and cheaper food.

Overall it is a nice village pub. The landlord operates a strictly no swearing policy which can get a little tiresome. As a father and a son I don't want my kids or my old mum exposed to excessive bad language BUT at 10pm when you are out with your pals having a few beers in your local pub some Anglo Saxon will be uttered... it is a pub, an English pub and the constant paranoia of saying the wrong thing and being barred does not lend itself to a good night out.

The live music varies from okay to super. The wi-fi is free, and they sell cookies from a jar. Winner. The "hot rocks" are great fun, and have facilitated my posting onto Facebook such updates as "mat is now eating reindeer, poor rudolph", "mat had not heard of blesbok before, but is now apparently eating it", "mat is eating springbok, previously thought this was a type of running shoe", "mat cannot believe he is eating zebra, is this even legal?" etc. The fish and chips? Could this possibly be the very best melt-in-the-mouth battered fish in the whole of Cambridge? (Okay, probably not - but it's definitely up there with the best, and comes highly recommended!) The ambience and decor in the bar area is lovely: a toasty fire in winter, gorgeous sunlight in summer. It looks like something out of the 1920s. The music policy is gentle and centres around latin, big band, and vocal jazz. Service is consistently brilliant. The main dining area can get unpleasantly noisy in the evenings, and seems to attract the loudest groups of people ever. That's the problem with great places: they are so good they attract big groups of people. I am very lucky to have this wonderful pub in spitting distance from my partner's diggs in Cambridge and I'm always excited to go there for a quick wee dram at the end of an evening or a summer's lunch or a dinner out. Elvis, the manager, is hospitable, and one gets the impression he hasn't slept nor taken any time off work for the last 5 years. From great to greed in one year? It's just not what it was anymore. We went every week for the…read morepizza lunch offer, for roughly two years, but not anymore. To start with, it's suddenly not a pizza anymore, but some kind of pita. Then there are no vegetarian options in that lunch offer to choose from (last week there were at least three vegetarian pizzas, now it's one vegan pita), and to top it all, the price went up from £5, roughly a year ago, to £6, and now in one go to £8. Just to be clear, no problem with a little price increase here and there. Everybody does that, but it should be done somehow remotely in line with actual inflation. In roughly one year, from £5 to £8 means around 6O% more, while the national inflation rate is 2%. Well, perhaps you are paying your waiters now 60% more? Or did the price for the pizza/pita flour went up by 60%? Or, perhaps more realistically, are you simply trying to maximise profits by checking out how much you can take before you loose too many customers? Well, looks like the old game that many pubs lost for good. My suggestion: Let's stop going to the Salisbury Arms for the rest of this year. Perhaps hardly anyone bothered and the pita is £12 then, or many bothered, and the game stops? Hard to say, but we give it a try. See you in 2025 - perhaps. And yes, there are alternatives: Fireaway pizza lunch offer? Great pizza - good price, and so clearly bigger than the Salisbury Arms lunch offer pizza was, i.e. you could share. This is definitely not touristy Cambridge, which in one way is a pity, because it's much a nicer pub than many that tourists visit in the centre. The interior is very traditional - lots of dark wood - with a single long room. On a freezing winter's night, it was cosily warm, and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. Clientele seemed a very mixed bunch of locals and students and some (very polite and chatty) heavy-metal fans. A nice touch was the lack of piped music. The main draw is the choice of up to 10 real ales, with some really interesting choices, include a locally-produced ale if you want to keep your food miles down. Food is more limited, with the usual snacks, plus a platter (£5) of either mixed gourmet Swiss and Dutch cheeses, or cheese and sausages, both served with horseradish and pickles, but (oddly) not bread. Arguably the best ever steak burger I've had for a while…read more The meat is not too dry and feels just perfect! I ordered flat mushroom as extra, and what a surprise! It was huge, and most importantly, it tasted so good with a special aroma! My daughter used to hate mushrooms, but she loved it instantly after giving it a try, and said she'd like to come and dine again. Price is reasonable, too. Strongly recommend this to everybody!

They have a greater choice on tap than the Boat House. The service is also friendlier even if yesterday was pretty busy with a holiday party. However I still have not seen any pool table or dart board which was disappointing. All in all a very good experience but I will try to go back when it is not as busy.
