I explained to them how much sentimental value my ring held, but they were adamant that a repair was not possible. So, I decided to get a second opinion and visited Smith Jewellers, also in Glasgow. I was delighted when Karen told me that my ring could, in fact, be repaired. She explained that the claws in the cluster simply needed to be strengthened to secure the setting. The work was completed within two weeks, and at a fraction of the cost quoted by the first jeweller. Karen and her husband at Smith Jewellers are such a friendly couple; very approachable people who genuinely care about their work. And, if you're a dog lover, you'll be greeted by their two adorable dogs in the workshop, who make you feel even more welcome! I was so impressed with the service that I also entrusted Smith Jewellers with my late mother's engagement ring. As it was too large for me, I had never worn it, but within two weeks it had perfectly been resized. Once I collected the ring, it looked brand new and beautifully sparkling. Now, I can wear my mum's engagement ring every day; it feels like I have a little piece of her with me, wherever I go. It's rather dirty, there's a rickety old lift with the pull over metal bars and the whole place smells of very strong disinfectant. If you are a little put off by the lift then don't worry as there is a friendly man who works in the lift opening and closing the doors and helping customers find what they are looking for. Smiths is on the third floor and as I said, when you enter it isn't glamorous but do not let that put you off as the people working here are experts at their trade. I used to work in a jewellers and whenever our workshop was full - the rest was sent to Smiths. Many Jewellers in the city centre use Smiths and I have seen Links of London staff here many a time when I have popped in. I also get my own personal jewellery sized and repaired here. They've sized a few rings for me and also taken links out of bracelets, ring sizing is never more than £10 for silver and if you need something quick smart they can generally sort something out for you. Smiths has been in the business for years and even though it's not shiny and sparkly, chances are if you've had something sized from a jewellers in Glasgow they'll have sent it here to save them waiting to get it sized in their own workshops if they're too busy.

Pushy, obsessive girlfriends drag sweating, shifty-eyed boyfriends around here and coo in an innocent-but-underlyingly-persuasive manner at gigantic engagement rings. You can find everything in here, from traditional gold and antiques, to modern gems by contemporary designers. The walls and ceiling sparkle with the reflected light of a million facets - most people can only afford to browse. Wandering around here is an enjoyable way to spend half an hour. Deciding what you would buy if you found £10,000 or even £100,000 just lying in the street (Ha!). One end of the arcade emerges on Buchanan Street, the other on Argyll Street, so it is a nice alternative link between the two streets, especially if it is raining.

It was perfectly me. The little purple box told me that it was from Bethsy Gray Silver Jewellery. I had never heard of it or been in before but, as a huge fan of silver jewellery, I was certainly going to seek it out. My boyfriend encouraged me telling me that Bethsy herself made the jewellery on site and helped him pick the perfect necklace for me. Wow, impressive. I popped in later with a friend and discovered it was even more delightful than I imagined. The jewellery is displayed within vintage store Starry Starry Night where Bethsy was working away in her workshop. She popped her head out with a welcoming and friendly smile asking if we needed a hand and happily left us to browse. The jewellery is made of sterling silver and semi-precious stones and comes in all beautiful shapes and designs. There are bracelets, necklaces, earrings, rings, cufflinks and even tiaras and if you don't find what you're looking for you can commission Bethsy to produce your perfect little piece. I love it and now adore my necklace even more having seen where it was carefully created.

He suggested sending it off to Casio to see if they could work the magic required, and warned me that the parts could be expensive if they were able to fix it. I got a call a little over a week later with an update - they couldn't fix it. Bummer! I popped in to collect it, and even though Robert had spent a lot of time helping me, and trying to fix my watch, he insisted there was no charge. Brilliant communication together with warm and friendly customer service meant that even though I was pretty upset my watch couldn't be fixed, I left with a huge smile on my face. I couldn't recommend Stevenson's any more.

Not that it looks rough, or that the diamonds in the shop window are exactly hidden - this place blings from blocks away! There is a wide range of jewellery on display in the windows, from potential engagement rings to more simple and elegant designer necklaces. There are a lot of older fashioned styles available in Stevenson's if that's what you're looking for. Bear in mind, however, that they also stock an impressive range of more contemporary designs, including Pilgrim and Rennie Mack (my favourites). They also sell Hot Diamonds which make lovely gifts on special occasions such as 18th and 21st birthdays. Hot Diamonds are very subtle in deisgn, and elegant without being stuffy. On the contrary, they are very modern and unique in design, much akin to fellow big names such as Links of London. So I guess what I'm trying to say is there is something for everyone in here, and with Stevenson's stocking many different styles of jewellery, you won't be hard pushed to find something you like in here.

The band has a lovely printed effect, almost like tiny little stars have been imprinted upon it. (This comes across well in the pictures I've added!) I have worn it everyday and still find myself catching glances and admiring it. I had wanted a handmade ring for a while. And then I found Mo who has her independent business, making silver jewellery. She was displaying her work at a craft fair and I loved her pieces. I knew it was one of Mo's gorgeous rings I wanted on my finger, I just wasn't sure what to go for and Mo really helped with this. I'm a fan of greens, so she sent over pictures over of all the stones that I could choose from. I was spoiled for choice and it was a tricky decision but, in the end, I picked the beautiful and warm jade. From then on, Mo kept me informed of the process of my ring from start to finish. It was sent to Edinburgh for hallmarking, before finally, reaching me. Delivery is first class and signed for so you've no worries that your package will get lost in transit. This is a more costly delivery option, but is great for peace of mind. I was so, so pleased with the end result, and also of Mo's service throughout. The pricing is also very reasonable considering they are unique, quality pieces. There's a great selection of stuff from small pieces of designer jewellery and knick-knacks all the way up to large home furnishings, all with bucket-loads of designer chic. Prices vary from cheap to very expensive, depending on what you're buying, but it's great just to mooch around in here and be inspired. It's much harder to escape without buying anything!

It's amazing how much they have managed to fit in here, and the tall glass cabinets combined with a central display table really showcase the jewellery well. There is also a small selection of gorgeous bags hanging along a low rail. The price range is huge, from pieces at around £500, right down to the £10 bangle I got for part of Maw's birthday present. There are so many lovely things in here, and with prices to suit every budget, I have already dropped a couple of hints now that the Christmas season is drawing near.
