While delivery was on time, flowers were sub par. I had asked for a picture of the arrangement to be sent to me before it was it was delivered, and it was not. I had purchased the superior arrangement but, the quality of the flowers was not superior at all. $122 dollars for an arrangement that I was embarrassed to have sent to my niece after surgery. Please do better! Your business seems to be hit or miss. I've seen some beautiful arrangements in the reviews. But, the one I ordered was not. So disappointing! read more

This is one of those times that you wish there were 6 or 7 stars. I live in SF, Ca. My brother married an amazing Mainer from Orrington and has settled in Falmouth. A few years later my mom moved to her cherished little lake house on Pettengill Pond from NY and spent many a year before she was struck with early onset Alzheimers. She moved very happily into Stroudwater Lodge (another amazing place) and has now lived there for several years. I have not seen her in over a year due to the pandemic. I am about to get my 2nd shot but will not have it in time to travel to see her. I wanted to set up something fun for her birthday and that led me to contact Harmon's. First off we already had something great set up with them where 2x a month a fresh bouquet is sent to her. These flowers appear out of the blue and bring her so much pleasure. That has gone on for a few years without a hitch including during the pandemic so kudos to them for that. The thing that really set them apart however was when I called a month ago to ask for some custom service. We have a long history of being creative, out of the box type people in my family. Past birthday's have included surprise adventures, surprise visits and pranks galore. Thus when I approached Harmons the super nice salesperson connected me with The Amazing Tracy who handles their online fulfilment. Tracy listened patiently to my explanation. I was curious how they could turn one of this months bouquets into something more creative and special for my Mom. I tried some obvious things like cake and balloons but I finished by saying, please, we are not pretentious but there are 3 sons and we will spare no expense for our Mom so if you have ANY ideas maybe your husband is in a band or you know a cheerleading squad that performs...anything of this nature we are interested in hearing about. Well, turns out one of her friends is singer who had a great idea to sing some songs from my mom's youth as well as of course happy birthday. Tracy coordinated having a cake and a special bouquet and even worked with Stroudwater about logistics of arrival, pandemic protocols and timing. It literally could not have been more easy. I won't list the costs but I can say they were way below what it would cost here in SF so much so that we were able to tip all the parties involved for this amazing custom service. Mind you they may not be able to do this for everyone as it is not a service they advertise so if you call and ask for it and they are unable then please pardon me for getting you psyched. The last thing I want is to cause any kerfuffle with Tracy or her Employers. Speaking of those employers, I am a small business (much smaller than harmon's) owner myself and I know how valuable an employee like Tracy is to an organization. I sincerely hope that they read this and give her whatever form of Gold Star exists in your organization. In conclusion I would like to thank Tracy and the whole staff at Harmon's for further reinforcing my already high opinion of Maine. I will most likely retire to Maine from Ca when my time comes. read more

One of my friends mother was in ICU and Harmons recognized that they were unable to deliver to critical care. They called the hospital every day to check on what unit she was going to after ICU-the flowers were in her new room when she arrived. Would not recommend this florist!! Being new to Maine, my husband picked Harmons to send me an arrangement for our 60th anniversary. When the flowers arrived I noticed some of the flowers appeared wilted, and the next day numerous flowers were also wilted. Also one of the flowers was placed in a plastic straw, because the flower must have been damaged and would not stand up. The high cost of the arrangement and the freshness of the flowers I have never seen the likes of!! read more

For 35 years I have sent long stem roses to my wife on the anniversary of our first date. The arrangement consisted of a red long-stem rose for every year we've been together plus one white rose representing hope (for another year). These are arranged with greens and fillers and delivered to wherever she is - usually at her workplace - with a card. Well this year was more of a challenge - she was out of state, watching our granddaughter in Portland Maine. So I searched on line for a many-started florist in Portland. (I had no idea there are misleading rating out there - I will confirm in Yelp next time). Anyway, the order was simple: 36 red + 1 white (plus greens/filkers) and delivered to my daughter's house where my bride was on that day. The deliverer (who was pleasant) had trouble finding the street address and was calling her to assist in finding her (ruining the element of surprise), but she helped the driver and they were delivered somewhat within the requested window. The flowers were arranged well enough - I'd say adequate, but I'm not picky or particularly aesthetic, however they neglected to include the white rose. I wouldn't have minded them omitting a red rose or two, but they omitted the most noticeable and significant rose. I'm not sure what happened .. I've been used many florists over the past 36 years - most appreciate the romantic significance of the order but none have ever left out the white rose. As you might guess, this is not a cheap arrangement (not for us anyway) and my wife was a sport about it but somehow it felt like a deflated romantic gesture, which stings a bit. This may be a one-off. I hope so, but the non-stellar ratings in Yelp may suggest otherwise. Beware of ratings out on the internet. I have learned to check Yelp. I personally choose not to risk another order with them. They seem pleasant and professional on the phone - its the execution that gives me pause. read more

I would avoid this florist...they prices are crazy and for the product you receive, you could easily have picked it up at the local grocery store. I sent a bouquet of tulips (ordered the deluxe arrangement) paid $100 and we received maybe 10 tulips...which again I could have purchased at the grocery store for $8. There are some other great local florists, I would start there first! read more

I ordered my mother a bouquet and box of chocolates the night before Valentine's Day. The woman deserved more for watching our son while we were sun bathing in Mexico, but I knew she would appreciate it. I gave them less than 24 hrs notice and they delivered a beautiful bouquet the next day, one of the busiest days of the year. The flowers were gorgeous and are still flawless a week later. The chocolates, however, did not arrive. I emailed Harmon's, and Katie not only responded quickly but upgraded our box of chocolates and them delivered the next day before I even had a chance to see the email! A+ for customer service and quality product. read more

Stopped in this morning to pick up a small arrangement for by better half. The shop itself is eclectic, kind of boho chic. And plan to step on some stem clippings. And then get ready to get your socks knocked off. Great selection of flowers and greens, especially considering the time of year (dead of February!). One of their florists immediately started picking stems based on little more than my declaration "I need a small arrangement for my girl, y'know, just 'cause it's Friday." About 15 minutes later I walked out with a spectacular custom arrangement of little more than greens and whites, that in whole was nothing short of magic. And it made my girl's day. Which ultimately the only thing that counts when reviewing a florist, IMHO. But by any measure, they were fantastic - friendly, attentive, extremely talented, quick. And worth every penny. read more

She then says that she's out of pink roses. Substitutes purple. Makes a new bouquet that looks NOTHING like the picture online that I ordered. Ordered flowers for our daughter to welcome our new grandson and I happen to see a picture of the bouquet sent. What a disappointment! I've purchased better looking bouquets at the grocery store. There was no effort put into this arrangement, and I suspect it's because it was a long-distance order and thought I'd never see. I did let them know, with no response. For $95 you'd think a medium sized bouquet with balloon would be impressive, but it wasn't and I'd not use or recommend as they appear to have hit or miss quality control issues. I ordered flowers and chocolates for my wife to to be delivered to her work on Valentine's Day. The grand total came $166.95 (flowers $125, chocolate $30, delivery $11.95, tax $0). The chocolates never came. I call but get the voicemail, so I leave a message. I check my bank account and see that they've charge me $171.95, an additional $5.00. This is BS... so I call the next day and they've arranged to send the chocolates without even contacting me about the issue. Surprise, she's not at that location today. I understand its the holiday and they're overworked and possibly understaffed, but that doesn't change the fact that they didn't follow through. When I finally got to talk to an employee, the woman made excuses and then tried to blame me and the bank for the extra charge. I don't understand how a business can drop the ball like that, and not only screw up the delivery... but charge me extra for it without offering some kind of discount or refund. read more

I was asked to bring flowers on Thanksgiving for dinner. Not knowing anything about the local florists I went to Yelp. After reading the reviews, I decided on Sawyers and I am thrilled I did. I told them the color and the few directions from the hostess and told them they know better than I what looked good. At Thanksgiving dinner, there were just so many complements on how gorgeous the flowers were by everyone. I now know where to go next time I need flowers in Portland. I have twice gotten flowers from Sawyer & Co. Each time for my girl friend, once as a surprise and the other time for valentines day. Both times the arrangements were awful and the flowers were in terrible health. The valentines day bouquet was dead within 24 hours. I called to complain (After all, it was $65. I could buy a 10 dollar bouquet at Trader Joe's and it would last at LEAST a week!) and the girl on the phone was dismissive and rude. Acting as though it was somehow MY FAULT. Yes, it was my fault. I called Sawyer and Co. as opposed to Harmon & Barton's. They are the only florist I will go to now. They are more reasonably priced, and their flowers are always healthy and the bouquets are always well executed and thought out. STAY AWAY FROM SAWYER AND CO. Even with them being right down the street from our apartment, I avoid them like the plague and recommend you do the same. Nothing worse than your girlfriend/wife's flowers already wilting upon delivery - in this crazy world who needs a $65 negative foreshadow! read more

The flower arrangement that I had ordered for my sister whom was in the hospital didn't match what I ordered. It wasn't even close. The bouquet I ordered had lots of orange roses and bright pink and red flowers but the bouquet she received had hardly any orange roses with other flowers like tulips and mostly green leaves as a filler. This was very disappointing and is false advertising. If this florist couldn't accommodate my order they should have called me back so that I could have made alternative arrangements. read more

I chose baby's first block "deluxe" just shy of $100 dollars to celebrate the birth of a granddaughter. The arrangement was sparse the flowers were the cheapest of selections and the flowers, which I saw less than a day after delivery, were brown. I could have done a nicer arrangement myself. They would not return my call. If this is the kind of florist "teleflora" endorses I pass. I will never use them again apparently they also own Harmon's. Next time I will just send a gift card or use the hospital florist. read more

SAMANTHA IS THE BEST EVER!! The experience was the best I could have asked for, for a wedding!! She was great and dealt with my terrible time management skills and was always professional and kept me at ease! She saved my cake from looking terrible and made it beautiful by putting flowers on it and since my bakery dropped the ball on bringing my cake topper she saved the day by adding flower to the top! My bouquet was beyond beautiful, and the boutonnieres were great!! My experience all around was five stars!! I will only go back to them in future needs of flowers!! read more

I've only used Sawyer & Company once (for my wedding on October 5th, 2013), and I was really impressed with their customer service and general knowledge. My husband and I live in Maryland, but all of his family is in Maine. His mother recommended Sawyer's to us (or she might have recommended Harmon's, but they're the same company now anyway). We set up a meeting with them about a year and a half in advance - we don't get to go to Maine often, so this was our only opportunity until the wedding. That same day, we met with 2 other florists in the area and were pretty underwhelmed by what they offered in terms of wedding arrangements. No one showed us real flower arrangements or even pictures of weddings they had done in the past. So when we went to Sawyer's we weren't really expecting much. We ended up meeting with Jason. He asked about colors and what I pictured for myself and for the bridesmaids, as well as what I would like for the Cathedral arrangements. I told him that my colors were navy blue and yellow and that I wanted to incorporate those colors into my bridesmaids' bouquets. For mine, I just wanted white. Jason brought out little flashcard-type books of blue, yellow, and white flowers. He began flipping through them to show me what would be in season for an October wedding. Then he said "we actually have a blue and yellow wedding this coming weekend. Let me see if I can put something together to show you." He brought up a few vases full of flowers in each color and started putting together sample bouquets. I was blown away with how beautiful just the samples were! I knew right then that we were going to go with them. We got the proposal from Jason about a week later and their prices were very reasonable. I wasn't sure how many corsages we would need, nor the style I wanted to go with. Jason was very flexible and said I could take my time deciding. I let him know a few months before the wedding and he sent back an updated quote within a week. He coordinated all of the logistics with the Cathedral and with Foley's Cakes (who make our wedding cake) so we didn't have to do anything on the actual wedding day. I was also able to stop by the store the day before the wedding to see all of the arrangements, corsages, and boutonnieres. Overall, I was very impressed with Sawyer's and would recommend Jason in particular for any wedding! read more
