I was looking for a healthy snake plant (sansevieria) for my apartment which gets very little sunlight. We have a couple in our flat from other local places; these low maintenance baddies can tolerate pretty much anything that happens (... or doesn't happen) to them, they purify the air, and supposedly help with sleep. Skillins to the rescue! I didn't realize HOW enormous their indoor space is; be ready to be surprised too! PRO TIP: This would be a lovely place to bring a coffee and spend an hour wandering around in the middle of winter. It's so warm and bright in here! An employee watering some plants asked me if I needed help, then walked me over to their Low Light Plant section. There were half a dozen or so smaller snake plants available, several of them showing new growth already! They were $10; I feel like that's exactly what I was expecting/hoping to pay. When I was cashing out, the person in front of me was buying a bouquet of flowers. The employee at the register softly inquired if they were for any special occasion. Come to find out they were a surprise for his wife "just because"; the employee then wrapped them up in such a pretty, thoughtful way (and I don't think he was charged for it). May 2025 Beautiful place; occupies both sides of the road with much of the merchandise under cover for rainy day shopping. Large selection of items well displayed. For my own special needs they have coolers with cut flowers- service was quick, efficient, congenial. Prices competitive. Stop and check it out. read more

We recently moved to Falmouth from Tampa Florida. I had to re home all my house plants, which were allot. They went to good homes as my friends are all plant lovers. Since being here Skillin's Greenhouses has been my home away from home as I'm there allot!! The staff are amazing and so welcoming. Nearly every time I go into Skillins I am reminded why I enjoy it. The staff is friendly, asking if you need help finding anything, but not intrusive and never give you that look like it's a pain you are interrupting what they are doing to ask them something. Majority of staff actually know about plants and their products. I can recall numerous times especially when buying an unfamiliar plant or fertilizer/soil amendment, etc they have provided excellent advice to help me make a decision and follow through with whats gotta be done in the garden to be successful. They have a decent sized area of veggie and herb seedings and lots of annuals/perennials in spring/summer, lots of good seeds to choose from and a fairly large selection of house plants of all kinds indoors. High end wooden raised garden beds, trellis, barrels and pots of course. Decent sized selection of bagged composts and mulches. In addition they offer a large sized area full of great gifts, cards, etc Maine made and otherwise which we often browse. Look for open houses in spring and Christmas time for raffles and sales and a nice reason to come by again to see what they have. They also offer (during non Covid pandemic times) some craft and educational classes. Last, they have a free reward program to reward you with $ off if you plan to return in the future which has helped us numerous times with future purchases. One drawback is of course some things are more expensive here than elsewhere and I will at times pick and choose what makes sense cost wise, but in my experience you get what you pay for. I really loved our visit to Skillins. It reminds me of the family-owned nurseries we went to as a kid. The space is large and has several separate areas for plants, bulk items (mulch, gravel), pottery/stone items, and home decor. We thought the variety and quality of plants were excellent, including several we had never seen before. We interacted with a few staff members who were all helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. Prices were fair, and they have a nice reward program. Our visit was during COVID times, and we appreciated the measures they took to keep employees and customers safe. Skillins will assuredly be the place we go for plants in the future - no more trips to a big box hardware store for us! read more

It's (almost) mid-March. In Maine. It's cold, kind of dreary, but the sun's beginning to melt away the brown piles of ice and sand, and I'm ready for some greenery. Since Mother Nature's still taking her sweet time providing weather that's warm enough to encourage new growth outdoors, I took a trip to Skillin's this weekend to pick up a few things that will brighten up my new apartment and, in a few weeks, spruce up our deck when the warm weather finally hits. I made my first trip to Skillin's last summer, when I had an actual yard and a goal to add some color to it. The selection of annuals was overwhelming, and I'm pretty sure that whatever sort of tiny flowers my heart desired I could have found there. This year, I went mostly for some seeds to start indoors, and left with an almost-budding hydrangea, some paperwhite bulbs to try my hand at, and an orange tree (if you have ever smelled orange blossoms you'll know why I couldn't resist). On a lazy Saturday morning, I had waaayy too much time to spend perusing, and the friendly staff was always close by - so I could ask them all about growing bulbs indoors, why my hydrangea should actually live outside in the winter, and just how many oranges I could expect from my little tree. To top it off, if you buy a plant and a new pot for it, they will repot it for free, which saves me from the inevitable mess of dirt that always winds up on my floor when repotting indoors. Go here. Loved the choices here and will be going back in the spring and summer. Much more than simply a greenery. The site features a massive indoor space for both gardening and lawn essentials as well as decorative and gift items. You can browse for at least an hour here. Plenty to chose from outside. The fresh Christmas garland, mixed, was about on par with what other local sellers were offering yet at a higher quality. Still, the prices are a bit steep. The Skillin's Family is an old standby when it comes to Gardening..good selection of houseplants, seasonal floral items..ie poinsettias, holiday cactus, etc...at reasonable prices. I'd like to see them look into more unusual houseplants, but each time they do something goes wrong. I bought a Lobster claw Ginger, only to lose it after two weeks due to the fact the plants were left in the truck by a driver who turned the heat off in winter for several hours. During the summer they have great selections of vegetables, perennials and annuals, even water plants! Herb selection is above average and they thankfully haven't gone over board on Marketed Branded items like White Flower Farm...though they are starting to get carried away with Proven Winners, Annuals in 4 1/2" pots. Having shopped at Skillin's for 20 years, I still make it a point to stop in every time I am in the neighborhood. well worth the time and money read more

I sit here writing this review in the shadow of Manhattan, having never been inside Skillin's Greenhouses. But for a girl who has a mom who lives nearby, who loves beautiful flowers, Skillin's is a friendly, reliable, well run business that delivers happy-inducing bouquets of which my aforementioned loving mother feels inspired to send me photos. read more

This is one of my favorite places to be. The staff is amazing I recently brought some plants in for repotting and was here for 2 hours. They are very helpful and came up with a great way to repot my 3+ foot tall bamboo plant. I purchased a few more plants as well. Every plant I have purchased here is still alive and I'm not an expert of caring for plants. They're pots are very pretty and reasonably priced. read more

Purchased two items. The blonde clerk who rang them up asked my husband if he wanted a copy if his receipt. When he declined she said nothing else and he asked if we were "all set." She said yes, laughed at him and then mumbled some sort of haveaniceday. It was really her job to close the transaction, and something along the lines of "Thank you for your business," would have been a lot more appropriate. A recent visit revealed that Skillin's hasn't repaired its pot hole filled parking lot in a couple of years. Geranium selections were few and of poor quality. Quality is declining, but prices are not. Longfellow's in Manchester is worth the trip. read more
