This review took me a while to write because it's very emotional for me to think about how my…read moreparents were cared for here. I'll try to keep it as concise as possible. There are a handful of truly good caregivers here, and the facility itself is clean and well maintained. My parents had a nice two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. The management is either incompetent, indifferent, or both. When we first moved in, we were told a nurse would evaluate my parents and determine the cost of care. We later found out the person who evaluated them was not a nurse, despite being presented as one. In fact, according to two different caregivers, the facility hadn't had an actual nurse for six months or more while my parents were living there. My dad had Parkinson's disease and required his medications on time every day. We were assured this would not be a problem. After moving in, we quickly discovered otherwise. They told us medications could be given within a one-hour window before or after the scheduled time, but in reality they were often one to two hours late, and sometimes I'm not even sure he received them at all. When my parents used their emergency pendants, it could take up to an hour or more for someone to respond. Because of the medication delays and lack of proper care, my dad had worsening complications that led to multiple ER visits. Every time 911 was called and he was transported, the facility couldn't even tell us which hospital he was taken to. I had to call around to different hospitals trying to locate him. Their explanation was that ambulances sometimes planned to go to one hospital and ended up at another, but the closest hospital is St. Anthony's North, and they don't simply "turn away" patients. The lack of urgency, compassion, and proper medication management ultimately contributed to my dad's declining health. On December 30, 2025, my dad passed away in the hospital. The food situation was also alarming. My dad had a shellfish allergy, and the facility knew about it. Yet during the three and a half months my parents lived there, they served him shrimp or crab cakes four separate times. Thankfully we caught it most times before he ate it, except for one bite of a crab cake. That's when I learned this facility--despite serving shellfish regularly--does not keep EpiPens on site. Their plan is simply to call 911 and hope the resident doesn't go into anaphylactic shock. And on days when they weren't serving something he was allergic to, meals could be things like tater tots, hash browns, and watermelon. Hardly appropriate or nutritious meals for elderly residents paying thousands per month. Also, we were paying extra to have someone check in on my Dad every 2 hours. They weren't doing this either. At night there is no supervision what's-so-ever. How do I know they weren't doing this? I'd put a piece of tape at the bottom of the door before leaving at night. The next morning, the tape was still there. No one had checked in on him all night. Finally, my mother suffered her first fall ever while living here. It happened at night while she was going to bed. Instead of calling 911, staff simply helped her back into bed. The next day I received a call telling me she had "an accident" the night before and asking what I would like them to do. My response: Call 911 immediately. She was in severe pain. At the hospital we learned she had a broken hip and a chipped pelvis. Please take the facility's low ratings seriously. There is a reason it sits at 1.9 stars on Yelp. They will tell you they can provide care even when they clearly cannot. By the time you realize it, you've already paid the non-refundable $300 community fee, a month's rent, moving expenses, and more. For my parents, the total cost was $11,400 per month for rent and care--even though they never saw a real nurse. In just three and a half months, the facility collected close to $40,000. During that time my father died before his time, and my mother is now recovering from a broken hip and a broken heart. Please think carefully before trusting this place with your loved ones.

My husband and I toured The Avenues in preparation for my mother's visit. The facility is welcoming with lovely art and furnishings in the common area. However, more than the physical environment, you are welcomed by staff and residents. Since that first visit we were all welcomed into this wonderful community. Watching the community grow with Thursday gatherings, weekly events that appeal to different interests, the amazing garden and resident lead pot-lucks has made me grateful that The Avenues welcomed my mother into this community. Thank you all for the community that you have all created.

The carpet is thin and never comes clean. The appliances are so cheap they are not worth fixing if they break. The kitchen cabinets must be the cheapest ever made, same goes for the mini blinds, all you have to do is touch them to make them bend beyond repair. They residents deserve better. They have worked hard all of their lives and gave up their family homes. The people who live there are friendly, intelligent , knowledgeable people but if you think you are moving into an active senior 55 and older community, be prepared, average age is closer to 75.
