When I was visiting several people went out of their way to welcome me and help me to feel welcome. It's definitely the kind of church that has a blended vibe. Sorta the best of both worlds when it comes to some old church stuff and newer church music. The preaching is passionate, scripture-rich and orthodox Wesleyan which I personally really appreciate nowadays. The preachers I've heard don't just sum things up in a less than critical little slogan, or platitude. There's children and families everywhere, really pretty multigenerational. Not really the most racially diverse, but that's Waco in general. They do have a "Hip-Hop" service that I haven't tried out yet. I've made it my church home.

The location is right in the midst of a residential area... parking is a bit hectic so be early. If you're 15 minutes early parking is easy. If you're on time... you'll be praying for a parking space! Aside from the challenging -but not impossible parking... this ministry is SOLID! It is huge so be prepared to adjust if you're used to a smaller church (as I was/am). The staff as well as the congregation are very warm, friendly & inviting. You can truly sense the Holy Spirit at work. The worship is breath- taking... the team clearly seeks the Lord over what songs to share each week... the worship is passionate, joyful and centered on God (not just commercial songs about US) and it truly ushers you into God's presence and prepares your heart/mind for the Word. As for the teaching! Pastor John (lead Pastor) is not only an excellent teacher but you get a strong sense that everything he is teaching he has walked out or is walking out himself. It is not just a "sermon/report"... there is life in it! But one thing I have noticed as well about Pastor John is he is a good Shepherd too. Not all Pastors are both. Some are just good teachers who neglect the sheep emotionally. But John seeks to lift up the body of believers as well as individuals... he raises up a lot of other younger teachers in his church. Giving them opportunity to grow & be used by God. That's a sign of true humility and a deep understanding that Highland isn't his church, it's God's church & these are His people who ought to be "equipped for the work of the ministry"! John is being diligent & faithful to do that, as are so many others in this church. My grandson (baby) goes to the Children's Ministry and loves it... there is a great staff of servant volunteers there. I am excited to plug in more as time goes by (I have only been here a few months but have been SO EDIFIED!) I am anticipating Attending the women's fall study, and I can't wait for that. It is inductive which means it's going to be rich!!! So long story short this church is absolutely worth visiting and hopefully making YOUR new home church. His heart is not that of a godly man. Without going into too much detail, while going through a divorce and struggling with the prospect of losing custody of my son, I asked for prayer on two occasions. The second time, the pastor refused and said he had already prayed so what good would it do to pray again. My vengeful soon-to-be ex at the time was still in the same household going through divorce proceedings and as I tried to prepare for church, he locked all my dress shoes in the trunk of my car and hid my car keys so I put a pair of tennis shoes on and walked. My soon-to-be-ex called the police who met me at the church and talked to the pastor who then refused to let me in the building. No crime had been committed other than the desire to hear God's word and my ex husband, the police, and most of all this horrible man who should never have become a pastor barred me from that. The church's main focus is on tithing. Tithing, in my opinion, is not a requirement and should only be based on your desire and willingness, what you desire to give. It should not be preached to be a requirement of salvation. Horrible pastor will never ever step foot through the door EVER again!

When we arrived at church, the college group leader happened to welcome us and literally was so welcoming and authentic. Please keep following up with these college students. They may seem shy but they are watching and listening. Your kindness will help bring them back to church. Love the vision and heart and could not help but feel welcomed. Keep reaching out! They need the kindness and love of Jesus through your ministry! Just an FYI, I felt a presence of God when I entered the building. When we walked into the sanctuary I immediately felt that the building was already too small and God was moving to expand it. Ample parking in close proximity to the church. Warmly Welcomed by the Hospitality parishioners as we entered. Cry area is located just before the side entrance to the main church and with a large picture window giving a good view of the altar. Attended the 11 am Mass Service. The Eucharistic Meal included the distribution of The Blood Of Christ which is my first experience after the pandemic. The church had perfect air conditioning that made it perfect in this hot and humid weather. Their choir sang beautifully and lectors eloquently read. There is a big screen monitor located at left and right side of the altar facing the main church.
